What can be done to promote better health for the American population?
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD), diabetes and adiposity cause deaths, lack of quality life and economic effects on a global scale. Most of the conditions and effects can be prevented and are experienced at very early stages due to the lifestyle habits regarding poor diets, physical in-activities and excessive tobacco consumption. The resulting burdens to the families, societies and countries are very huge and unsustainable (Institute of Medicine, 2010). The health and economic imperatives in the improvement of lifestyle behaviors are completely evident. It is therefore important that the right approach be applied in dealing with the causal factors of bad health with the objective of improving the people’s health. The population approach in dealing with health matters creates a more focused dimension in reaching a wider population. The paper makes a proposal to the solutions for promoting better health for the American population by evaluating the possible recommendations.

Explain to individuals about the importance of a healthy diet and encourage and support them to choose healthy options and alternatives.
America is known for its advanced society and technology, but is also known to be one of the most obese populations. Found in “Down to Earth”, America is one of the most progressive countries to exist; therefore it should be the healthiest (“Obesity in America”). If America is so highly advanced, more advancement needs to be put towards obesity rates. As time goes on, adults and children are having to consequently expand their waistbands because of unhealthy habits. In an article previously discussed, Brown-well states that Americans are at an all-time low in exercising (Murray). By having less motivation to exercise, family health is at stake. Future generations need to be more pressured to keep physically fit for their health. With less motivation for a healthier lifestyle, communities across America will remain obese. According to CBS news, Americans prefer to consume Twinkies over Tofu (“The Blame Game”). With Americans not giving healthier options opportunity, less interest will be put into healthy options. Individuals are focusing on the pleasure of taste than their own well being. Internationally speaking, Americans have one of the strongest societies, but the weakest mindset for healthy living. With stubborn attitudes and continual unhealthy choices, obesity will not only stay but
I currently reside in Denver County, Colorado. I have chosen to assess and analyze this community for this assignment. Denver, Colorado is located east of the Eastern Foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Denver County is centrally located within the city of Denver, Colorado and includes the Denver International Airport located north-east of the city. The elevation of this county is 5,277 feet and therefore is nicknamed the “Mile-High City”. Denver County contains 154.9 square miles of land with a large amount of parks and rivers, of which 1.4 miles is water. (City and County of Denver, 2011).
The United States was once one of the most healthiest countries in the world ranking second, but after some years the United States has plummeted to rank thirty-seven. The current problem of poor health in the United States is caused by the United States government’s lack of innovation in keeping America healthier that has damaged every American’s evolution to stay healthy in the day and age of technology. According to The State of Obesity there are now four states that have over thirty-five percent of their citizens who are obese, all states having above twenty percent obesity rates and thirty percent in twenty-five states. All together over thirty-five percent of the United States population is obese (including super obese) that and of
Today in America obesity has become a horrific epidemic and Americans are trying to find the cause and a solution for it. For the first time ever in America obesity has become such a big problem that is said to be big as the dealing of drugs in America. It seems that in America today obesity and overweight Americans have become the new normal. Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in America and type 2 diabetes goes hand in hand with obesity. Obesity causes heart disease, cancer, and high blood pressure which are also some of the leading causes of death in America. Obesity doesn’t just happen to people it happens because of the unhealthy foods being eaten and the lack of exercise on top of that. This obesity epidemic is not only the fault
The rise of eating healthy even forced some food makers to remove unhealthy ingredients from their products. By targeting healthier and organic foods and ignoring the junk foods, this will increase the eating habits of several teens and adults. This generation needs to change the way they eat because it will show later in the years on their blood pressure on how much they need to eat or what they need to be eating to stay healthy. Those who choose to eat hamburgers, fried chicken, surgery foods are in danger to have a higher rest of an unhealthy body were it will lead to make changes when it is too late and their bodies are already mistreated with all these filthy foods. Apart from healthcare issue, the country has adopted the fast-moving life style, which has pushed most of our citizens to succumb to obesity as a result of fast foods. In fact, a recent report by the UN has ranked the United States as the most obese country in the world. Parramore (2012) outlines that, “Obesity is currently being considered as a national crisis in the United States and that it contributes 100,000 to 400,000 deaths per year. Statistics at the CDC and Prevention in 2010 indicate that 35.7% of the American adult is obese.” Many input trends exist in the American society, “First and foremost, people are highly used to fried foods, sugary drinks, and processed meats among others. There is also the sedentary lifestyle that has been adopted by many,” (Huffington Post, 2013). In fact, most of us love relaxing without exercise and too much television watching. These are some of the factors that contribute to obesity. The result is health complications problems such as diabetes, stroke, and heart disease just to mention but a few. These affect the longevity of life.
The best way to begin a change in health in America is to start with encouraging a healthy lifestyle for the younger generation. The United States has one of the largest percentiles of overweight/obese children in the world. The public clearly knows this, but is failing to take action. The parents are responsible for the future of their kids; they should take action early in securing a healthy future for them. This can be done requiring all students in school to be part of some sort of sport in school or outside; like a recreational league. It’s up to the parents to take responsibility for this and make sure their kids are
Should changes be made to the regulations for the foods that are served in public schools? This can be a very controversial question to most people; children with obesity, parents who do not care and for who does care about the health of the children and teachers who only wants what is best for the benefit of the children. This paper will attempt to explain and convince the unknown of why it is very important for our public schools to have a healthy eating curriculum for the children that attends there. If society can find a way to come together for the children of the community to fight to have healthier foods in the community, come together and provide counsel to the children of what healthy eating is all about. This paper will
When people think of health in America, common sicknesses like cardiovascular disease and cancer come to mind. Although these sicknesses are very usual, yet serious diseases, they are definitely not the only health issues prevalent in America today. Organizations such as the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) work to ensure nationwide health promotion of all diseases. In 1979, the Department of Health, Education & Labor initially created the Healthy People program as a standard for disease prevention goals across the US. In its initial printing, the Healthy People program exhibited a "ten-year plan to reduce controllable health risks". In January 2000, Healthy People 2010 was established by the HHS as "a set of health objectives for the Nation to achieve over the first decade of the new century." With 467 specific objectives clustered into 28 focus areas, the 2010 program was implemented to reach all people and health issues across the United States. Of those 28 areas, 10 were considered 'Leading Health Indicators' which served as reflections of the major health
With the huge diversity and changeability of human biology, it is impossible to imagine a reality without some mutations, changes, or issues in the organs and tissues of humans. Thus, it rightly follows that medications and pharmaceuticals have been created in an effort to counteract the various ailments and illnesses that people can experience. However, as time has gone on and these pharmaceuticals have become more and more high-tech, regulated, and trusted, they have also become incredibly commercialized. Worse still, medications have become incredibly expensive and can be unattainable for some people.
