As a nurse helping with the American Red Cross’s Disaster Health Services, I felt privileged to have received this pin for my involvement in delivering critical community services, preparing for and responding to emergencies and participation in specialty projects. I am hoping my involvement with the American Red Cross can eventually lead to being a good leadership role model for my peers as I follow in the footstep of other wonderful nurses and nurse leaders who continue to find time to volunteer in the community.
For decades, America has fought in many different wars with the need of health assistance for their soldiers. The American Red Cross is a worldwide organization that helped during the times of war but also provided a path for scientific advancements. Through the American Red Cross and other organizations of this time, they opened up the doors for women to take the chance to advance in the medical field by participating in scientific experiments and being at the aide of wounded soldiers. During this time of scrutiny, the Great War was a hidden opportunity for the encroachment of medical research with the contribution to the expansion of nursing.
Every single one of you deserves this tremendous outpouring of love, respect and support; not just this week, but every day. The rest of us, not only as members of the PPWI community, but as citizens of the great state of Wisconsin, would like to thank you and offer you our complete support, today and every day. We recognize that you go far above and beyond the call of duty, both in your work in the clinics, and in the face of adversity. You come in to work every day with your heads held high, because you know that you can be proud of what you do. Yours is a labor of love. You do what you do in order to treat, care for, and help people of all ages, races, gender identities and sexualities. Despite what some may say, or do, in attempt to discourage you. Despite what the cardboard signs on the sidewalk outside might say. What you do matters. It is important: now more than ever. You help people, educate people, and change lives for
As I prepare to begin my adult life after high school graduation, I plan to continue my education at California State University, Long Beach and hope to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Spending my four years of high school in the AIMS program at Jordan has influenced me to continue to pursue higher education. Getting the best education possible will allow me to be able to give back to my community by providing affordable and valuable care to everyone. I was given me the opportunity to volunteer at the Long Beach Veteran Affairs hospital and in the Long Beach Bike Uptown program. These experiences have made me realize how important it is to help others and that every little action a person does affects others. I would like to become
The American Red Cross is one of the oldest and most successful charitable organizations in America today. Since its founding in 1881, the Red Cross has helped millions of people around the globe. Recently, the Red Cross has dedicated some of its vast resources with the guidance of a new CEO refocusing the leadership and mission of this respectable company.
The name of the organization I am going to assess is the YMCA or the Y, which is an acronym for Young Men’s Christian Association. The YMCA’s mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that help healthy spirit, mind and body for all. They also have three things that they would like others to know they stand for, “For youth development, for healthy living, and for social responsibility.” The specific organization that I am going to assess is located in Montclair, NJ. It serves everyone in the community from the youngest to the oldest. They offer kinder programs for small children and have a senior center that manages programs for older adults. This YMCA is located at the heart of the downtown area of Montclair. It
When trying to make an argument or persuade someone, images can be powerful tools. They can convey complex ideas that text alone cannot. Images also possess the ability to be simultaneously simple and natural while playing with the wits of the viewer. The Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) is a part of the International Red Cross that seeks donations of two varieties for assistance in medical treatments namely cash and blood. The image that I have chosen is an ad print published by the ARCBS with assistance from a reputed ad agency M&C Saatchi. The advertisement proposes that though one of the two means of the donations is not familiar among the crowd, it is equally important as the other and tries to attract the readers towards
I want to recognize both Doctor Garmon and Ms. Hilleary King for going above and beyond the call of duty to provide patient care. There was a power outage in building 302, on July 21 2016 at 4:30 pm and a patient appointment scheduled for 5 pm in the same building with Ms. King who happened to be working an extended
Compassion,Credible, Committed, Creative, Collaborative, The American Red Cross calls this the Five C’s and under these values the motto “Support the Mission” comes into play. In turn, because of this The American Red Cross is the discourse community that caught my eye.
In the past, the Red Cross Association has dealt with controversy from its corrupt leadership to its reputation surrounding possible fraud. O.C. Ferrell, John Fraedrich and Linda Ferrell (2015) defines the American Red Cross (ARC) as an independent organization who’s mission is to “provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies” (Ferrell, Fraedrich, & Ferrell, 2015). In recent news, Hurricane Matthew made its way to the United States in October 2016. The category 4 storm was expected to damage the Southeast coast of the United States including Florida and South Carolina (Bacon, 2016). While many residents took precautions and acknowledged the state of emergencies that were put into place,

I later enrolled in a practical nursing program, in pursuit of my dream of becoming a nurse. While taking my prerequisites, I decided to volunteer at a local hospital in the emergency department. At the hospital, I assisted with transporting patients within the facility, preparing rooms for incoming
The Seattle Children 's Hospital has received magnet designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center which they are the only children’s hospital in the Northwest to receive this recognition. They also received the Beacon Award for Excellence in their Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for their supportive, positive work environment and effective communication between staff for high quality care. They were ranked number six in the country for having high quality care for a children hospital. They also got cited for being a great place to work for having a great benefits package, an uplifting environment to work in, they recognize when an employee does a great job and their ability to develop their employees professionally by offering continued education (Seattle, 2016).
The general argument made by Sean Illing in his work, “Veteran reporter: Why you shouldn’t donate to the Red Cross after disasters”, is how Red Cross is untrustworthy and a “dysfunctional organization”. More specifically, Illing argues that “Red Cross leadership has misled Congress[,] resisted oversight[,] don’t open their books[, are] not transparent[,] only release details after they’re publicly shamed[,] [make] $2.6 billion [annually, no way to spend it, and] get away with it”. The association “[sees] disasters as [charity opportunities], and as unavoidable acts of God...They’re better at short-term relief[, for example, single house fires]. He writes, suggesting that one donates straight to the local victims instead: “we [should] worry
The nursing program I wish to undertake at North Hennepin Community College is the foremost step in accomplishing my impending goals. For those who have asked why I wish to pursue a career in the medical field, my simple answer is founded upon the fondness I have for aiding those in need. In my personal belief, with the opportunities we are presented, it is every man and woman’s responsibility to contribute to the greater good, in other words, pay it forward. My idea of paying it forward is fulfilling a successful life in which that I may look back and ponder the memories I have of knowing I made a difference. My short range educational goals in NHCC’s nursing program is graduating with my bachelors, however this is still short of my long term
