November 11th is the day that we honor those who served and died in war for our country. The 11th of November 1918, marked the cessation of the most destructive, sanguinary, and far reaching war in human annals and the resumption by the people of the United States of peaceful relations with other nations, which we hope may never again be severed (VA.gov). We call it Veterans Day, but the original name was Armistice Day. June 1954, the United States Congress voted to change the name to Veterans Day because the United States had been in two wars since Armistice Day.

These are astonishing numbers considering the rising costs of healthcare, 12 million veterans eligible for free services would rather pay out of pocket than deal with the dreaded VA. On the Veteran Affairs official website they state that their number one priority is patient satisfaction and they proudly flaunt their “report cards” to prove it, but their definition of a patient is incomplete. The Veteran Health Administration was created to provide free healthcare to all men and women who have served in the military; therefore, their patients are the 21 million veterans living in America not just the patients that they are able to treat. Every man and woman who risked their lives for our country should receive quality healthcare for free.

Veterans day is always 11/11. A veteran will risk their lives to save other people. Veterans can get a mental illness from war because of the violence. Just because they have gotten PTSD does not mean they will be violent. About 77% of veterans from post-9/11 have had problems getting a job. But there is hope for more of them to get a job

November eleventh is a special day for Americans to honor and recognize the soldiers who fought for our country. Veterans day is a day for people to honor those who have fought for our country, the ones who we did not know, and our loved ones. On this day it is important to pay your respect to the men and women who fought and also fully understand why we have this day to honor them.
