November 11th is the day that we honor those who served and died in war for our country. The 11th of November 1918, marked the cessation of the most destructive, sanguinary, and far reaching war in human annals and the resumption by the people of the United States of peaceful relations with other nations, which we hope may never again be severed (VA.gov). We call it Veterans Day, but the original name was Armistice Day. June 1954, the United States Congress voted to change the name to Veterans Day because the United States had been in two wars since Armistice Day.
These are astonishing numbers considering the rising costs of healthcare, 12 million veterans eligible for free services would rather pay out of pocket than deal with the dreaded VA. On the Veteran Affairs official website they state that their number one priority is patient satisfaction and they proudly flaunt their “report cards” to prove it, but their definition of a patient is incomplete. The Veteran Health Administration was created to provide free healthcare to all men and women who have served in the military; therefore, their patients are the 21 million veterans living in America not just the patients that they are able to treat. Every man and woman who risked their lives for our country should receive quality healthcare for free.
Veterans day is always 11/11. A veteran will risk their lives to save other people. Veterans can get a mental illness from war because of the violence. Just because they have gotten PTSD does not mean they will be violent. About 77% of veterans from post-9/11 have had problems getting a job. But there is hope for more of them to get a job
November eleventh is a special day for Americans to honor and recognize the soldiers who fought for our country. Veterans day is a day for people to honor those who have fought for our country, the ones who we did not know, and our loved ones. On this day it is important to pay your respect to the men and women who fought and also fully understand why we have this day to honor them. Veterans day matters because the men and women who bravely fought should be acknowledged because without them our country would not be safe and free. November 11 is not a day off to relax, we take this day off with an important reason. Many Americans do not understand the importance and reason why we celebrate Veterans day. On this day all Americans should be honoring those who fought.
Veterans have long been in need of such services as they often come home from service with injuries that can be physically devastating. The loss of limb, the constant pain of shattered bones, pins, and even joint replacement, or long term illness certainly doesn't help the readjustment process when returning to civilian life. As of now, there are very limited government
Ever since July 4th, 1776, the vision of the United States has been to constantly improve the government and society in any way possible. Many historical things have happened since that date; slavery was abolished, civil and women’s rights have been signed into law, and just this summer, marriage equality has been made federal law. Despite the efforts to make the United States of America the land of opportunity and equality, people tend to forget about the people who made it possible for the United States to remain the “land of the free”, our U.S. veterans. Our U.S. veterans, over the years, have been treated not like they should have. Veterans have had social security benefits taken from them by the government in secrecy, and bad-mouthed in
Andrew JordanThe brave men and women who serve and protect the U.S. come from all walks of life; they are parents, children and grandparents. They are friends, neighbors and coworkers, and an important part of their communities. Their are approximately 23.2 million military veterans in the U.S. Here are some facts about the current veteran population of the United States.
One of the most serious problems facing all veterans today is the lack of proper healthcare. Soldiers, sailors and airmen are leaving active duty without having proper healthcare to cover their physical or mental injuries. The department responsible for veteran’s healthcare is the Department of Veterans Affairs. (VA) According to The department of Veterans Affairs website, “The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a government-run military veteran benefit system with Cabinet-level status. It is responsible for administering programs of veterans’ benefits for veterans, their families, and survivors. The benefits provided include disability compensation, pension, education, home loans, life insurance, vocational
Throughout history, many veterans suffer after fighting in wars, and millions of veterans have been killed or injured. Veterans do not necessarily get the treatments they deserve without paying a price. Taking care of veterans costs a lot and health care is needed for them. They need health care after serving, in order to treat their problems and injuries. Jobs are also important to veterans because they are jobless after fighting in wars, which leads them to be homeless. It is important for people who need help to get help. As of right now, the government has attempted to help veterans, but it may not be enough.
The U.S. has the best healthcare facilities in the world. One of them is the Veterans Administration Health Care. If the U.S. is going to have the best facilities, the government is going to have to figure out ways to bring in more money for healthcare to the Veterans. It cost money to help Veterans, especially
In honoring of the veterans who served for our country to have us the way the united states is today. You should always be thankful for them serving for our country because they are the reason that we have the freedom we do have and the rights. You should always honor them because they were risking their live and sacrificed their lives to save our country and they also chose to leave their families and some have may not returned back home so therefore you should always be respectful to them and show them that you care. If it wasn't from them it could be totally different than how it is now because they chose to fight or risk their lives for ours and that's why we have many rights and we also have the right to vote now because back then it
I believe that we the Americans should not just thank the Veterans on a certain date but we should thank them everyday. People may not realize the struggle that the Veterans went thru to stand for the our country's. Everyday that passes by my family and I pray for the soldiers and the ones that serves our country. Without them we would not have the freedom we have today. I thank the people
Every year on November 11 we honor and remember all U.S. veterans who fought for our country and freedom. We express our gratitude, and reflect on the sacrifices that were made from all the men and women throughout history. Veterans Day has been an annual holiday since 1938, and originated on November 11, 1919 after WWI (U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, 2015). Veterans Day is not just like any other American holiday. It expresses our thanks, as American citizens, to all of those that came and fought before us to keep the United States a free country. Veterans Day has evolved over the years from being a day to honor the veterans of World War I, to becoming a staple in the American calendar so that citizens
Contrary to the perception that our nation’s veterans are well supported in fact many go without the services they require of which they are
Hence, we go back to May 13, 1938, when an act was approved to make the 11th of November a legal holiday. This day was dedicated to world peace and was later called “Armistice Day”. It was originally designed to honor veterans from World War I. However, World War II was a war that had caused the greatest mobilization of soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen in American history. Therefore, on June 1, 1954, it recognized American veterans from all wars and thus, it was soon was called Veterans Day. On June 28, 1968, the Uniform Holiday Bill was signed to ensure a three-day weekend to all federal employees where Veterans Day would be observed on Monday. With that, on the first veterans day there was a lot of confusion whether to celebrate it
