The first major event that occurred in this decade was in 1912. On April 14th the large ship hit an iceberg and sunk. In 1914 the alliances with Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy’s Triple Alliance, Franco-Russian, and Entente Cordiale became contradictory with other countries’ expanding empires. In 1917, America enters World War 1 because of threats from Germany. Lastly, in 1919 congress established the Grand Canyon National Park.

The 1900s were a big turning point in men’s fashion, men discovered they could look good and feel good at the same time. During this time they wore three-piece suits that included a waistcoat or vest and a matching straight, loose-fitting jacket or sack. These were usually worn with contrasting slacks. Pants were worn cuffed and ankle high and were pleaded in the front and back. Long boots were worn to cover the space between the ankles and feet.
In my opinion, the automobile and the utilization of electricity have been two of the most important inventions in United States history. The invention of the car expanded our horizons in the fact that citizens were able to travel, but also because people could live in places other than the city. Also, the utilization of electricity has become a part of life that we would not know how to live without. Electricity has allowed for businesses and homes to run in a convenient and efficient manner. Without electricity, we as a nation would have very little technology.
One of the funniest although interesting inventions I stumbled upon was, sliced bread! Bread was probably made about 12,000 years ago, by mixing grains and water. It was probably tough and was cooked by putting hot coals on it. It wasn’t until about 1912 that Fredrick Rohwedder had the idea to create a bred slicer. All the bakers he talked to complained that the loves would go stale. So Rohwedder created a wrapper. Then, in 1945 arguably the most powerful and controversial technology was developed. This was the nuclear bomb and it completely changed the world forever. This weapon could be used to decimate entire cities and the only time it was ever used during any conflict was in 1945 (Shalett, n.d.).
