Ames was a key point for the Central Intelligence Agency’s ability to detect penetration by a double agent within its ranks. His background had given instances where a person who had addiction issues could have been a direct target for FISS agents to recruit to become a double agent. Within his admittance to the CIA, Ames had been appraised as a person who was a friendly outgoing person, leading to his position of an Operation Officer. His time in the CIA though showed his flaws as well as personal life leading to issues where he could have been identified as a potential vulnerable person to be recruited by the Soviets. His blatant actions where he was not particularly paying attention to security risks as well as leaving sensitive documents …show more content…
The position that Hanson held not only allowed for access to sensitive information dealing with counterintelligence operations but also with the assets that were working for the Soviets. The issues that lay within Hansen’s personal assessments throughout his career showed for potential to lead to a FISS determining him a potential vulnerability to be exploited, one of these being his arrogance. He also has instances where he accessed information on Soviet CI documents which lead to nothing on the part of his superiors. This should have been a key indication of potential recruitment of a FISS to access information on CI documents. One of the largest issues that are seen in the Hansen case is that previous identifying indicators of espionage had no bearing on Hansen conducting espionage. One of the deficiencies seen in Hansen’s conduct of espionage was the inability for the FBI to detect the intrusions at the time, which was based solely on trust. What could have detected these espionage operations conducted by Hansen, were periodic investigations as well as period polygraph testing in order to determine his intentions. What could have assisted as well, is the use of these periodic investigations after the key incidents that should have placed him on the radar for suspicious
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee presents Atticus Finch as a principled lawyer, committed but single father to Scout and Jem, and a law-abiding citizen. Atticus is a respectable gentleman in society and a role model for his children. Throughout the book we see evidence of his honorable intentions, though he doesn’t seem to reap the rewards. He is morally upstanding, even-keeled, and daring. Because of these things, Atticus is a man who deserves great respect and admiration.
Counterintelligence is one of the most vital areas of the United States intelligence system, and is heavily intertwined with our history, laws and ethics. According to the National Security Act of 1947, counterintelligence (CI) is defined as “information gathered and activities conducted to protect against espionage, other intelligence activities, sabotage, or assassinations conducted by or on behalf of foreign governments or elements thereof, foreign organizations or foreign persons, or international terrorist activities.” It consists of five activities and functions: operations, investigations, collection, analysis and production, and functional services. In this aspect, CI is unique in that it is both an activity and its product. U.S. intelligence agencies, including the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) collect and analyze both CI information and foreign intelligence. There are many counterintelligence activities that the United States is involved in, as both CI and foreign intelligence play an important role in countering threats to our country’s national security. Among these most controversial and misunderstood activities are counterespionage and disinformation.
Espionage at the commencement of the American Civil War was not an organized system; however the war necessitated the development of more structured intelligence systems for both the Union and the Confederacy. By the middle of the war the dimensions of the espionage system had augmented significantly. Thus espionage came to play a critically important role that affected general’s decisions in both the North and the South, ultimately affecting the outcome of the Civil War as a whole.
On 04/16/15, I received a call from Special Agent Scott Sutehall with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) who is a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force. I am also a member of the ICAC task force and work with HSI frequently. Agent Sutehall has worked with me on several cases and was confident with my knowledge and understanding of child exploitation cases. Agent Sutehall informed me that between 02/19/15 and 03/01/15, while acting in an undercover capacity, he utilized a law enforcement version of eMule, a client software for the eDonkey2000 (eD2k) peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing network, to monitor for P2P users possessing and distributing image and video files depicting child pornography. During that time period, Agent Sutehall utilized the law enforcement version of eMule to establish connections with IP address Test and to download several files depicting child pornography from that IP address.
Conrad applies an apparently crystal clear literary narrative technique in the tradition of conventional realism, a narrative method that appears deceptively simple. The Secret Agent holds great deal of the social concerns. It is considered supreme masterpieces, it is a brilliantly depicting an ironic narrative of London's seedy and dispossessed underworld of revolutionist and anarchists.
Mr. Chiu unintentionally became the saboteur that he was accused of and there's no indication that he regrets his choices. Although Mr. Chiu lives in a communist society where the Cultural Revolution was redefining the way of life for many Chinese people, there are still some fundamental principles of law and order that have not and will not change. His pride can be confused with arrogance and in this story his pride was definitely a character flaw. However, the complex human experience of Mr. Chiu does not excuse the fact that he contributed to the outbreak of Hepatitis in that region of Muji City. What he did was wrong but the resulting outbreak of Hepatitis has many layers and the blame cannot solely be put on Mr. Chiu. He
America’s first spy ring, better known as the Cupler ring, was Washington’s carefully thought out solution to gain intelligence on the overpowering British troops. The revolution was happening; there was no turning back and no denying that America was going to gain independence from Great Britain. Washington needed a plan, a way to foresee what the British planned to do next. Washington’s only solution was to resort to spying.

In 1994, Hanssen expressed interest in a transfer to the new National Counterintelligence Center. Three years later, convicted FBI mole Earl Edwin Pitts told the Bureau that he suspected Hanssen due to the Mislock incident. Pitts was the second FBI agent to mention Hanssen by name as a possible mole, but the FBI simply wrote this off as a reference to the Mislock incident.
In many traditional folklores, trickster characters are portrayed as being animals or other nonhuman entities; for example, Coyote in Native American tales, Br’er Rabbit in African American stories, or the devil in Blues legends. However, nowadays with an endless supply of movies and television series, while there are still animal and nonhuman tricksters, the trickster character can be commonly found being portrayed by mere men. Nonetheless, animal or man, these tricksters all encompass the same signifying traits, “He defies authority. He goes against the rules. But he does it in a way that’s often lovable, and that often results in good things for the culture at large,” (Sutherland). One of these more recent tricksters being portrayed by a man on television is the character Neal Caffrey of the program White Collar. Neal is an ex-convict, ex-con artist more specifically, who was incarcerated and instead of serving time in prison is working with the FBI as an insider on cases. First of all, he is a trickster because he was, and very might well still be a conman. Second of all, he is extremely cunning and can use his words to manipulate people and

The term “Covert Action” brings with it a connotation of shadowy figures wrapped in secrecy and intrigue. It also brings with it a substantial amount of moral questions as to “what is right.” The use of covert action has been widely publicized since the early seventies, but trying to find out the truth to these events has been difficult to say the least. What is even more difficult, is historically recording these events into categories of successes or failures. These operations are difficult to dissect because of their secrecy and although events have been recorded, some facts simply aren’t apparent. This paper will seek to identify the complex issues associated with covert operations.
Using fake mailboxes and drop sites to secure his information safely to his meetings. The FBI searched his house with the warrant finding personal information about meetings and future events that will take place against the CIA. Arrested for espionage him and his wife where they were held without any bond. Being one of the most popular cases in the history because Ames collected money by the giving away CIA classified secrets and not being able to be traced nor caught since the 70’s once he started trading secrets. He remained undetected for so long that mistakes like this should never have been going for such a period which makes you think about how the most intelligent agency in the world let this happen. Something has happened before to where terrorist has destroyed people lives on our own soil just like September 11 and how they mysteriously got on the plane. For someone that’s holds the key on the inside to have knowledge of so much information to where a mole was hidden right in the CIA going undetected for over 9
The final espionage indicator that Kadish displayed was unusual work behavior. Through analyzing the individual’s work patterns from 1980-1985, he displayed many instances of working outside of normal duty hours. The specific terminology of the indicator is performing non required work outside normal duty hours. To come to this conclusion, look at Kadish’s actions during this time period. He removed 50-100 classified documents, not relating to his research, taking them back to his house after duty hours, or outside normal duty
oseph Conrad’s novel “The Secret Agent: A Simple Tale” is set in London. It was published in 1907 and discusses politics, terrorism, family issues and anarchy. As it is clear from the novel’s title, it is revolved around the main character of the novel, Mr. Verloc who is a secret agent from Russia on a secret mission in London. The title of the novel depicts clearly about the character’s motif and mission but the subtitle is depicting the novel to be a simple tale but still it is complex in its nature. The novel seems like a straightforward story of the characters involved, their lives, their work, their relationships and whatever is happening in their lives and surroundings.
