In “My Mother’s English” by Amy Tan, Tan gives a narrative on how her mother coped and lived while learning English as a Chinese American. The three main points she shared are: our family scenarios impact our language and our life, low literacy can lead to few positive chances for us, and that language bonds a culture together. Tan realized, nearly 20 years into her marriage, that the family speech she grew up with impacted her most. Not just our language do we carry on from our early life, our morals, tendencies, and beliefs are all driven through and made firm during our young family times.
