An Argument Against Animal Experiments

It is not often that one sees the gruesome ways of animal experimentation in person. In short, it is the use of non-human animals in labs to find variables that affect the behavior of the human biological system (Google). Many people-like the PETA organization or the Humane Society-oppose these practices, but even this opposition is not enough to stop testing from happening for things such as cosmetics testing, chimpanzee experimentation, and genetically engineered farm animals. Although some of the testing produces positive results-such as a drug working-it is at the expense of millions of tortured animals; therefore, a simple solution would be to prohibit the use of animals in research.

Throughout history, animal experimentation has played an important role in leading to new discoveries and human benefit. However, what many people tend to forget are the great numbers of animal subjects that have suffered serious harm during the process of experimentation. Many people are believed to be ignorant or misunderstand the nature of the lives that animals actually live, and are unable to understand the actual laboratory procedures and techniques. Other than the philosophical questions that arise, ethical (moral) questions are the main reason why many animal right activists want it banned in every country. Activists feel that to this day, there should be no good reason why any living thing should be subjected to this cruel punishment and unwanted torture just for serving another being’s needs.

The animal experimentation is very difficult issue with a lot of people feeling very strongly of it, we are use the animals for the experimentation in different way, one of most big problem is for test the cosmetics, the images of animals with things put in their eyes for so we are able to look a bit better make many people very angry. Is it necessary?

Although some people argue that animal testing has played a vital role in medical industries however, it has been proven that the majority of animal experimentation has no significant impact or breakthrough that could be beneficial to humans. This makes us question the validity of these experiments, and if they truly have any benefits. This idea is supported by Dr. Bross , the director of biostatistics at the Roswell Institute for Cancer Research who states that the conflicting animal results that have been found have never produced a single advance either in preventing or in curing cancer (as cited in Carlson, 2012, p. 398). "It's for the greater good," they say, as they try to justify animal research. Although some think humankind is superior to an animal, animals still have rights and do not deserve to be treated as if they are worth nothing.

Although many people argue that animal testing makes a lot of medical advancements, most of the experiments are flawed. First of all, according to procon.org “9 out of 10 drugs that appear safe in animal studies fail in humans.” This argues the point that animals and humans aren’t the same. While we have some similarities, they are not the same so we should not be testing on them. In the same matter, procon.org also says, “ 87% of the studies failed to randomize the animal selection.” This means that they are using the same animals for the tests and they are using the same type of animals. In short, most of the experiments are flawed, the drugs don’t work on humans, and they are failing to randomize animal selection.

Another way that animal research is justified is if the research is legitimate for human health issues. Animals that are used in studies to test the effects of beauty products do not deserve to be experimented on. However, in research for actual health issues, animal usage is justified. In an article written by Sheryl Gay Stolberg, “Debate over whether to defend animal tests,” she explains a study done by Dr. Podell. Podell says the study could not be done in people, but he says he did make an ethical calculation: “it's a small number of animals to get information to potentially help millions of people.” It is important for people to understand that a small amount of animals can equal a large gain. To envision an innocent animal trapped in a cage, ready to be examined and awaiting death. Seems somewhat cruel and inhumane to society who oppose animal cruelty. Many creatures just as rabbits, mice, monkeys, even dogs and cats are killed yearly in laboratories for research. Scientists examine animals claiming how research enabled the expansion of many life-saving treatments for both humans and animals. Stating that there are no alternate methods for researching, however mentioning that there are strict regulations to prevent the abuse of animals during experimentation (Lawrie, 2014).

Commencing, contrasting viewpoints proclaim animal testing as an excellent way of medically progressing, for the sake of humanity. Scientists, researchers, and professors, claim that researching on animals is vital to understanding human health and diseases, for the emergence of new medicines and surgical techniques, and for preventing harm to humans from new medicines or vaccines. Their belief if that human lives would be put at jeopardy without animal experimentation. The use of animal testing to conduct research on medical and pharmaceutical products is a divisive and controversial subject. The main arguments against animal testing are the inhume conditions in which animals are kept, and the suffering inflicted upon test subjects (Van der Zee; July 18, 2013). Despite the ethical issues with animal testing, an equally compelling argument can be made about the need for this practice to minimize risks to human test subjects. Throughout the years, animal research has been essential to the development of ground breaking medical discoveries such as penicillin even if such discoveries came at the expense of millions of animals that may have suffered or died during or because of these experiments (Lobanovska & Pilla, 2017). This paper intends to establish that despite its drawbacks, animal testing is a necessary evil for the sake of scientific progress.

Whenever people buy any chemical products, have they ever thought how can manufacturers guarantee the fail-safety of these products? A million of animals are killed or disabled with complete impunity is an answer for their safety; Therefore, these poor animals have been tested in several experiments throughout the world. However, most of these unkind activities performed in the laboratories are so ruthless we will never image one human doing it to another animal. As an animal right, many people feel that animal testing may have bad influences on them. In this essay, it will be contended that animal testing should be banned because it is so cruel, unnecessary and does not always provide satisfactory treatments for human’s illnesses.

Nevertheless, despite the belief that animal testing is beneficial, testing animals is actually immoral and should be abandoned.

Did you know that more than 100 million animals are tested on and killed in a year from testing. Countless animals get tested on, on a daily basis. As well as they have made many stuff that helps humans. But animals should not get tested on because animal test do not reliably predict results in human beings, animals tests may mislead researchers into ignoring potential cures and treatments, and alternative testing methods now exist that can replace testing on animals.

Imagine yourself trapped in a cage, engulfed by darkness, the feeling of dread the only thing standing by your side. Every day you tremble in fear of what new twist those lab coats have in store for you. You lost your faith that you will be saved long ago and that your destiny is to die in this forsaken cage. This is what animals used for experimentation go through on almost daily. Throughout the last few centuries, millions of animals have undergone many cruel and stress inducing tests and experiments. Nowadays, many studies show that using animals for testing is unnecessary and that scientists should not have any real need for it.
