“Truman stated that his decision to drop the bomb was purely military. Truman believed that the bombs saved Japanese lives as well. Prolonging the war was not an option for the President,” (ushistory.org 1). President Truman and the United States government made a fair decision by dropping the atomic bomb on the Japanese citizens in Hiroshima and Nagasaki during 1945. The bomb allowed the United States to appear more powerful and led to them influencing the rest of the world. The dropping of the atomic bomb was also a just response to the previous atrocities committed by Japan to other countries including the United States. In this layout of the Marshall Plan, the United States planned to help countries in Western Europe develop. The United States used the power they gained from dropping the bomb to aid countries. If the bomb was not dropped at this time, the United States would not have had the opportunity to become a leader. The advancement of other countries would not have taken place as well as level the wrong doings of the Japanese. A man named Marine Corporal E.C Nightingale was on the USS Arizona when the Japanese attacked. “The bodies of the dead were thick, and badly burned men were heading for the quarterdeck, only to fall apparently dead or badly wounded. The Major and I went between No. 3 and No. 4 turret to the starboard side and found Lieutenant Commander Fuqua ordering the men over the side and assisting the wounded.
