The aphorism "don't put all your eggs into one basket" was first used in the novel Don Quixote where it was written, "It is the part of a wise man to keep today for tomorrow, and not venture all his eggs in one basket." The meaning of this aphorism is to invest, devote, or commit all of one's energy or resources into a single venture, opportunity, or goal, generally at the risk of losing everything in the event if the goal is failed to complete.
