An example of static evaluation in the movie was when Paikea grandmother helped get her into the boys training to be a leader. Koro excepted her in it but told her if she wanted to stay she needed to be in the back because she is a girl. Paikea did not move she held her place so Koro kicked her out of the class. This scene shows us that Koro has gone back to the old ways and treating her like a girl and not his equal. He held her up high before she left and when she came back he treated her like nothing. In most cultures now, women do not have to sit in the back in fact we can lead the crowd if wanted. Koro was using his past knowledge in how things worked and that included no girls.
Based off Charles Webb’s 1963 novel by the same name, The Graduate is an American romantic comedy/drama released in the United States on December 21, 1967 starring Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, Katharine Ross, and William Daniels. A prime example of this is Seita and Setsuko’s female cousin. There are several mentions during a portion of the film about her status as a worker. Her mother, Seita and Setsuko’s aunt, believes it to be patriotic and work toward the country and war effort. There is nobility in working for the war, in it as a man of the military or on home soil as a woman. The aunt makes her opinion about this abundantly clear; her critique is hard to ignore. Her grueling dogging of the main protagonists also is a critique of gender roles. What she says is most often just as important as how she says it. Her tone is often militant even in nature, again emphasizing the importance of the war. She is a motivator and a drill sergeant. Japanese soil is as much a war zone as the places of actual war. Her role in the household is scattered with masculine traits. Setsuko’s and Seita’s hiatus of habitation under their aunt’s roof enabled a sense of independence happiness not seen before for Seita and Setusko. For example, she has Seita sell his mother’s kimono for rice. Control of finances is a facet of the male gender role. Yet she convinced Seita to sell the clothing with ease. In this is evidence that a woman with a set of masculine role traits is worth more or possesses greater power than a feminized male. In the end however, this double standard still exhibits a sense of inferiority for the female gender because a woman must change from what
Once we are able to put aside our biases, we will be able to further the study of gender. Both schools have various advantages, I have a tendency to favor the critical theory due to its reflective assessments and critique using a sociological perspective, but the audience reception approach also can play a role through the exploration and interpretation of the media. In my opinion, both play vital roles in furthering the study of gender when approached objectively. While the critical theory focuses on the mindset of the victims of oppression and the mindset of their oppressor, the audience reception approach can focus on the media influence on
Moreover, the manhood acts in the film actively maintain the gender inequality present. The purpose of the acts is to be accepted by other as being in the “dominant gender group” (Schrock and Schwalbe 149). This demonstrates how sex and gender are different things. Sex is whether you are biologically male or female, but gender deals with how you behave such as masculine or feminine. These manhood acts can actually be seen
What I realized from this scene is that the players were obliged to comply with society’s interpretation or rules of femininity
The Frontline film Separate and Unequal discussed about creating a new school system; however, there are opposition by others who wants to maintain the current school system. If we look at the perspectives of the two groups, it is understandable in why there is support and opposition from the people of the city. The supporters of the new system wants a system that can provide better opportunities for their children without any violence. As the film claimed “the school was not teaching and were only babysitting the children”, which was likely a reason why there was a need for a new school system. With the chaotic and uncontrollable situation in the current system, many supporters have push forward the idea of a new system in a new city. From

The Comparisons and Contrasts of the films of The Thing and The Thing From another world
Based on Muted group theory, men and women think of the world differently and perform different actions based on their experiences. In the world today, men want the role of power, and they want to be able to make their own informed decisions. On the other hand, women are more worried about what other’s think of them so therefore they seek connection rather than hierarchy. Because of this, men are thought to have dominance over women so therefore they are able to shape and formulate the ways that people speak and the ways in which people are heard. Kramarae believes that there is a “lexical bias” in the public language such as cartoons, and metaphors which plays a role in Muted group theory. She also believes that women are not represented highly

I chose gender criticism this theory to analyze the gender roles and the gender expectations displayed in “Lady Susan”. I chose this theory because “Lady Susan” mainly discussed the relationship between males and females, and the interesting gender roles the characters played. Thus, gender criticism theory can help me to understand and comprehend the underlying meanings of different characters’ conducts and personalities as females.
In Michael Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), the connections between people and memories become the focal point of a very unique romance. Through the use of new technology, the possibility of erasing memories makes painful relationships disappear like they never happened. The tale of Joel and Clementine allows the audience to rethink and question the process they undergo as beneficial or destructive. Though the process might be helpful in eliminating the pain caused from another person, four key scenes show how the lessons learned through relationship experiences are important.
Even in today’s society, there are some groups of Maori people that prefer to keep the gender roles between men and women separate. In Maori cultures, men are the one’s who can fight in war, perform war dances, and have full facial tattoos. Although the Maori consider their women to be sacred mainly due to their ability to produce children, there are several actions that are considered taboo for women to take. Women were not allowed to fight in war, to assume leadership positions, have full facial tattoos, or perform any type of war dances (Gender Roles of the Maori”). Some of the forbidden actions were shown in the film in various ways. Due to the traditions in selecting first born sons to be chief, Koro is repulsed by the idea of allowing Pai, a girl, to assume leadership. At one points, he got angry at Pai for fixing his engine with rope as this demonstrated leadership ability. Since women were not allows to fight in war, one could also assume that women were also not allowed to use any tool of war. Koro didn’t allow Pai to learn how to use the Taiaha war staff, and he was furious when he found her wielding one and using it to win against another boy. Traditionally, Maori women were to be the
In this paper, I will write about “Thelma and Louise” (1991) movie. I choose a last scene of the movie which the police came to arrest them in the Grand Canyon (from 122 to 125 minutes).
