Thank you for your inquiry into different theories of modern curriculum. I believe that while we have served students from CFB very well, there are a number of viewpoints that warrant consideration when redrawing our K-12 curriculum.
As you are well aware, our student body is very diverse. In fact, there are nearly 4 times as many Hispanic students than any other group. (Carrollton Farmers Branch Demographics, 2015) Our aging curriculum has taught many thousands of students important facts and skills to make them successful in life after their time at CFB. However, it is apparent that a number of our curricular guides teach from a

As they study American History, they hear tales of Christopher Columbus, sailing the ocean blue in 1492, the pilgrims surviving the harsh realities of the American landscape and the heroes that spread across the North American continent. Later, our students learned about the tremendous philanthropists like Carnegie and Rockefeller, playing a pivotal role in creating our uniquely American culture.
However, when the role of hero is constantly played by the same cultural archetype, young people not matching that standard my not find relevance in the historical perspective. For example, including an account of the culturally rich century Han dynasty (BBC News, 2015) in counterpoint to the Western perspective, may function as a catalyst to a much broader multicultural understanding. In American History, accounts from Native Americans and Central American Indigents should be presented alongside the tales of Columbus and Pissarro. They may provide a meaningful exchange for our 80 Native American students as well as a more accurate perspective for all students. To augment lessons on great American philanthropists, a narrative of the many African American construction workers who toiled during the building of modern New York City could assist in creating a more complete picture.
It is important to mention that creating a more multicultural environment does not require the removal of achievements accomplished by people of a European descent. George Mason University
Educational institutions that promote multiculturalism are beneficial, in that they prepare students for the increasing diversity in the workplace. An environment with diversity establishes values and builds character. It assists students in accepting and understanding the cultures to which their acquaintances belong to, as well as broadening their knowledge of the world.
I would like to discuss multiculturalism in education; I am particularly focused on the higher education aspect, and the effect of diversity on education. In reference to the four assigned articles that discussed reasons for and against a diverse learning environment in higher education and the effect on education and american culture.
A study conducted in 2003 by Ofsted that involved England, Denmark and Finland, showed England’s national curriculum compared to the other two countries was:
History outlines the role that different people played in the establishment of the present-day America. In the British North America, several men were engaged in the exploration of the land with some of them end up being termed as heroes in the long run. The activities which they were involved in during that time influenced the way the region came to be through personal attributes or even exploiting the native groups to ensure that they either benefited their country or themselves eventually. Most of the men were involved in the leadership of various groups, and their roles made an impact that even in the present day can be appreciated by all in the society. The history of the world is but the biography of great men who were also part of the America's history (Carlyle, 1993).
Throughout America's great history, the industrial age has been one to reshape the entirety of the country's current state as well as the future. Of many leading men, industrialists they call them, such as John D Rockefeller and Henry Ford, emerged one right from the roots of Pittsburgh by the name of Andrew Carnegie. This man plays a key role in the country’s expansion of infrastructure and steel work making one of the most successful Americans economic wise. He shows the complete story of the American dream of “Rags to Riches” ("Andrew Carnegie" Almanac). This was the dream that Europeans, who were not so wealthy, could come over to the United States and start a new life, get a good paying job and become entrepreneurs. This dream made many

The birth of America was rather dark than golden. At an early age, kids are taught in school about the great hero, Christopher Columbus, who claimed to have discovered this country. People have been deceived by false information given through textbooks and online sources, but under a thin layer of American history is the tragedy of Native Americans, who lived on this land hundreds of years before the “discovery”. The arrival of the settlers were the main turning points of change in lifestyle for the Native Americans, affecting the daily lives and traditions of the Native Americans in the past and today.
Schools are always changing and evolving with new students every year; so why not change some other things to benefit the school system. Changing and adding different curriculum in the school environment, is something that should be considered to benefit Streator High School. For example, changing the school starting time to give students more time to prepare themselves for another day at school. Another change that would be advantageous to be brought into Streator High School is to add open campus lunch. Changing up the curriculum would also be obliging. Adding a sign language class would be beneficial to staff and faculty. This would be for students to be able to interact with others that use that for their only communication with others, resulting in a closer, more friendly school environment. There would be an overall positive impact in the school community by adding these changes. More involvement, improvement in the the economy of our town, and improving the overall academics at the high school would be the result of these changes.
One of the events that I think that formed today’s America were the men that build America which were, Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan and Henry Ford this five legends are the one’s responsible the economic boom in the 1800’s. all the innovation made was what make the big business in America. By the development of railroads, financial systems, etc. coming from nothing this men’s create the concept of what really was the American dreams which all of us today look so desperate to accomplish.
Andrew Carnegie is a champion of innovation, business, and philanthropy. From his birthplace in Scotland to the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Carnegie embodies one of the great stories of fulfilling the ‘American Dream.’ His tenacious spirit and intuition made Carnegie overcome his adversities and become a pioneer of knowledge and business versatility in history. Andrew Carnegie helped shape modern advancements in education and business, and without his philanthropic and professional endeavors, many of the developments in the modern world would have been difficult to obtain. By looking at Carnegie’s success in the Pennsylvania Steel Company and his eventual charitable contributions to society, one can understand how one man has contributed to a diffusion of knowledge on a worldwide scale.
Many industrialists have been part in all aspects of an American based society. These group of financier’s ideas made America reach its greatest potential. Most resources we use today such as commute and finding ways to cure diseases wouldn’t have existed if it wasn’t for these brilliant minds. A name of a significant prospect that shows these elements of prospering America would be John D. Rockefeller. This brilliant

This report summarizes my findings after evaluating the curriculum of Natchez-Adams School District. I was granted access to the curriculum by Dr. Delarious Stewart, Curriculum Director for the Natchez-Adams School District. This report is designed to reflect how the curriculum is aligned with state and district standards. A curriculum is vital to promoting the success of all students because it is the content that is being taught in the school district. For this reason, the person or persons designing and developing the curriculum must understand the many different facets of an effective curriculum. I will present my findings in the following paragraphs.
Multiculturalism has many positive effects, including but not limited to freedom of religion and beliefs, increased
Curriculum is a term often highlighted during discourse about education and most commonly understood as a policy with overt leaning outcomes for teachers to apply and achieve. Ornstein and Hunkins (1998), as cited by Selvaraj (2010), defined curriculum based on two lenses; micro and macro, which identify the term as both policy towards certain goals and what students experience with consideration for relevant theories and principles central to its development and implementation. However, Wilson (n.d.) argued that curriculum is not restricted to certain individuals, subjects and environments, since teaching and learning can also occur beyond the scope of official curriculum (Ebert & Culyer, as cited in Marsh, Clarke & Pittaway, 2014). I believe this interpretation is the closest to the true nature of curriculum, or education, as there are more complex layers to curriculum than just a written guideline. For example, not one curriculum is similar to another because it is subjected to influences from continuum number of factors, such as politics and economy. Hence, it is wise to conclude that curriculum could not be defined based on a singular perspective due to its dependability on context.
