The Pioneer boys basketball team has strung together three impressive weeks to end January. After a slow start to the new year, winning one and losing two in the first week of January, Alder has won six in a row. Those six wins highlight a win 59 to 47 over the Division-1 Hilliard Darby Panthers on January 19 and 60 to 44 win over their conference and county foe, Fairbanks. Junior guard Andrew Koenig’s scoring has assisted the Pioneers’ success over this long. He put up a career-high 33 points against Fairbanks. When asked about his team’s success over the past few weeks, he said, “ “ The Pioneers finish out January with a grueling, three game week. On Monday the 25th, Alder beat Shekinah Christian with a score of 90 to 77. They followed
The Crucible was created to described what really happened in these witch trials, and the effects it had on the Colony itself. There was more than 50 men and women accused of witchcraft but less than 20 were hung. The town embraced their trials as a template for their envy of hate.
In Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld, Holden would like Lee because she is a predictable person. For instance, she is predicted to do anything anybody asks her to even though if she does not like it or promised that she would never do it again because she puts peoples’ needs before her own. For instance, “And this was it, the last time: I was retiring from cutting hair” (158). This shows that Lee is retiring from hair cutting because she felt disgusted by Aspeth and Cross’ behavior. They were flirting in front of her when Lee was cutting Aspeth’s nasty blond hair. “My hair desperately needs cutting” (164). This shows that Lee is predictable because after she vowed that she would not cut anybody’s hair anymore, she cut Ms. Moray’s hair a few days after
A huge contributor to the big offense of day was Mr. reliable tight end Greg Olsen who had eight catches for a career-high 134 yards and two touchdowns! He took the Saints defense to school specifically cornerback Brandon Browner running right past him for a 52 yard chunk play that sparked the offense! The Saints left him wide open on many plays all I can say is thank you much appreciated! I continued to say this he is one of the best tight ends in the league;he is the veteran presence this offense needs with all the young players and Sunday his play seemed to rub off on the other receivers and opening up other big plays for the offense great execution all around and once again thank you to the Chicago Bears for giving us Greg Olsen!
On Wednesday August 31st 2016 in North Muskegon Michigan, Brittany Miller and six year old son Granderson went shopping at a local grocery store. As they made their way up and down each individual isle Granderson suddenly began making high pitched screeching sounds. Just as some other autistic individuals, Granderson is more sensitive to sound. Therefore as a coping mechanism, Granderson often will imitate the sound of a fire alarm to help him deal with the overwhelming sounds and noise. Miller explains shortly after her son began to display this behavior it was only a few brief moments afterward, that she turned around to find a note that was placed upon her bag that read: “You need to buy that kid a muzzle!!”. His mother expresses that she
Live reports from Wolf 2 news, reporter Lee James has full coverage of the arrest of the top terror fugitive James Knowles.
Many people have formed strong opinions about the young Chris McCandless, from the story Into the Wild, who ventured into the Alaskan wilderness where he eventually starved to death there. These opinions vary in ideas, but one Shaun Callarman has claimed Chris to be “just plain crazy.” Despite what Shaun Callarman says, Chris was not crazy, but he was smart and intelligent or else he would not have lasted 113 days in the wild of Alaska. Mr. Callarman does have some arguments which are able to support his claim, but in the end I would definitely disagree with his analysis.
Krakauer admits that Chris McCandless was a rash, but he insists he "wasn't a nutcase, he wasn’t a sociopath, he wasn’t an outcast. McCandless was something else-- although precisely what is hard to say. A pilgrim, perhaps" (85). Many thought McCandless was wise and he knew what he was dong, while others disagree, stating his poor decisions contributed to his own death. In my opinion, Chris was indeed wise- he was a young man who didn’t care about labels, brands, big things, or anything materialistic. Instead, he thrived on more important concepts of life like truth and freedom. He believed he would find his true self and relieved of society once he became one with the wild.
What if your best friend went on an adventure. They had everything they had ever wanted. They didn't tell you or their family where they were going or how long they would be gone. They just picked up and left. Would you respect their decision to not tell anyone their plans? Would you think that this was a good idea of theirs, or would you think that this was a stupid decision on their part? Well this is what Christopher McCandless did. In 1968 McCandless was born. He was born to a good, wealthy, and happy family. He had everything any child could ever wish for. He was smart, athletic, and had a good education. In June 1990 he completed collage. In July of 1990 Christopher McCandless left his family and almost all belongings, and didn't tell anyone where he was going, or how long he'd be gone. Three years later McCandless was found dead in a blue bus located in Alaska. He had died of starvation. He went off and, ¨lived his life.¨ McCandless went out and lived in the wild. While Christopher McCandless died peacefully, the question has arose on whether McCandless was a noble adventurer or an arrogant fool. The evidence from many stories and social media clearly states that McCandless was in fact an arrogant fool. Christopher McCandless was an arrogant fool because he was not prepared, he
The civil war did reduce sectional antagonist a huge amount but it also made the United states One Nation. The war was a test for the nation or in this case ANY nation for those dedicated to see if they could endure and a final resting place for those who died and for the nation to live. There was division between the north and the south which eventually brought upon the Brutal Civil War. In president Andrew John’s Amnesty proclamation, the Union forgave the confederate and made them swear on an oath to faithfully support, protect, and defend the constitution of the United States. “The union eventually showed that they had no “antagonist” against the south which made the United States One nation once again. The soldiers that risked their lives
Allan Bakke recorded suit in the wake of discovering that minority competitors with bring down capabilities had been admitted to medicinal school under a program that saved spaces for "impeded" candidates. The California Supreme Court requested the school, the State-run University of California, to concede Bakke. The college at that point engaged the United States Supreme Court.
Kevin Gates is an inspirational speaker and pushes people to push them self. “Love the people god gave you because he will need them back someday.” Is what he is saying in this quote is don't spend so much time on not liking people and just enjoy life and don't fight with others. “Don't lose your mind trying to wait for people to come to their senses.” In this quote Kevin is saying don't tear yourself down when people don't talk to you or contact you.
When you see yourself living out your dream, the thought of what you're most passionate about pulls you in. Passions in one's life change based on what had affected that person. Dreams are defined to change. However, the benefits of these thoughts is that they belong to you and only you. Not one person's opinions matter but your own. Chris McCandless simply was living out his own ideal life, the way he wanted; not to the idea of his parents, his friends or of society. McCandless wanted to escape society and civilization which he felt was tying him down, while also trying to discover himself. McCandless is not by any means a wacko. He was simply defying society and its ideal expectation it holds upon us as a whole.
In my opinion, Mr. Kristof’s tone is inappropriate for this issue. Although I do agree with the author, in my opinion taking a serious tone would go further in conveying his view. Many individuals take this topic close to heart and would not appreciate the light hatred jokes. I personally already believed that hunting animals to balance out the ecosystem and should be a modern practice. Some specific statements in the article did stick out at me; one example of the statements was when Kristof stated that the human killed the predator but did not take over the role of hunter. One implicit assumption Kristof makes in this article is when he sais it is estimated that one hundred fifty people a year in car crashes. I agree with Kristof if
During World War One (WW1) various technological advances occurred and had a positive influence on warfare. People claim that the war was deadly due to the creation of new weapons and military tactics that were put into use. Although it can be seen as negative due to the number of casualties and the amount of conflicts that arouse, there were various benefits to the technological advances during the First World War, because trench warfare was introduced, new military tactics formed, and more efficient weapons were created.
Intense amounts of gold and red with beautiful, intricate and delicate details asking to be seen. These are the immediate thoughts came to my mind as I stepped into the Latin American Art exhibit at the Blanton Art Museum. Both beautiful pieces that captured my eye and that I will talk about today are of Unknown Artists and are both 18th Century Peruvian paintings. The first painting is titled “Nuestra Señora de Belén con un donante” or “Our Lady of Bethlehem with a Donor,” this is an 18th Century, Oil on Canvas from Cuzco, Peru that measures 267cm x 185cm. The other painting is titled “Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados” or “Our Lady of the Forsaken,” also an 18th Century, Oil and Gold on Canvas from Cuzco, Peru that measures 123cm x 104cm.
