In today’s sports world, performance enhancing drugs have become more and more of a problem. Famous athletes with records upon records do not always play by the rules. Celebrities with countless amounts of fans and admires turn out to be nothing but a cheater. These athletes are paid millions of dollars to simply perform, entertain, and follow the rules of their respected sport. Performance enhancing drugs (PED’s) have changed the way we look at athletes and their legacies. One of the most common PEDs used in the sports world is anabolic steroids. Of course a long list of other drugs come to mind such as Adderall and testosterone, but they all increase the human body’s physical capabilities in some way shape or form. He owns the record for most Tour de France titles with seven. Most people pictured him as a world class athlete and hero after not only defeating cancer, but demolishing his competing year in and year out in the Tour de France. His glorious life story inspired thousands if not millions of people across the world effected by cancer. All of his fame came to a crashing halt in 2013 when he admitted that the use of banned substances resulted in his success (Allen J.). Armstrong’s name, image, and legacy destroyed in the minds people all across the world. Even if he were still able to win those titles without the use of illegal substances, the records and titles were all stripped from his name. Armstrong’s dope scandal opened the eyes of fans in every sport, causing them to have second thoughts on professional athletes who find tremendous success in their respected sport. It also forced the sport of bicycling to admit to problems related to drug use, leading to extreme anti-doping involvement (Pugmire L.) One man’s cheating techniques has changed the entire sports community as a whole. Another professional sports organization effected by the use of PEDs is the MLB. Crushing monster homeruns that measure at extraordinary lengths is not an easy task. Throughout history the MLB has ran into multiple dilemmas where some of the sport’s biggest names have broken the rules.
