In the 1999 movie Varsity Blues wrote by W. Peter Iliff and directed by Brain Robbins. James Van Der Beek plays the character Jonathan “Mox” Moxon. The movie takes place in a small town in Texas called West Canaan. In this town football is a way of life. Everyone plays it when they grow up and the high school varsity teams are treated like local celebrities. And the coach has won numerous division titles for the school and is driven to win another this year. Moxon’s character is a back quarter that was forced to play football by his dad but has no passion for the sport. One game the star quarterback gets hurt and is done for the season. When got injury the next day in the game, the doctor said he had a lot of damage and scar muscle tissues. Then stated he was surprise he was even playing and he shouldn’t have been. So it shows how the steroids helped him become able to play. And also show the negative effects of taking steroids. The other thing it should was substance abuse after every game they when to a teammate house and had a big party with a lot of binge drinking. During one scene a player is drunk and steals a cop car and goes around town drinking and driving in the cop car.
