This paper will explore ten leadership tools as they are introduced by General Vincent E. Boles as he went from 2nd Lieutenant to Two Star General. These tools of leadership, the General believes were learned and applied successfully during his 33 year service while in the US military. He is convinced these tools are transferable into the business world as we know it today. We will review the following fundamentals as establishing structure, managing relationships, having organizational transparency, making business decisions, influence of decision making, following standards of business, utilizing systems that work, who is in charge, handling work related stress, finding balance between work and home life, how to handle crisis, non-negotiable
Leadership books abound in modern publishing with each promising proven technique to make leaders and teams more effective. Each of the five books assigned provided a different perspective of leadership but several key themes resonated through each. In their own ways, the authors addressed leader identity, risk, competence, hard work, knowledge of people and proper view of self.
A dirty little secret of leadership development is there are few truly new and innovative ideas. Recently published books, tools, and concepts repackage ideas from decades or centuries ago to address the needs of twenty-first century leaders and organizations. For example, Amazon lists Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin as the current best seller in business management and leadership. Willink and Babin’s ideas are solid and their stories are both inspiring and compelling. Nonetheless their concepts are not new. Academicians, practitioners, and leaders have highlighted these same principles for decades: check the ego, prioritize and execute, and decisiveness amid uncertainty, to name a select few. This is not a criticism, rather a reality of the leadership industry. Accordingly my contributions to the field are not uniquely inventive. Rather I excel at packaging existing ideas in creative, simple, and applicable ways that address my clients’ needs and inspire impactful leadership. I recently shared a set of risk taking tools with a client that demonstrates this skill.

Kouzes and Posner combine years of experience and statistics to back up what they are conveying in this book. As they gathered their data regarding leadership, they discovered that there were 10 patterns that kept emerging as the truths about leadership. I will attempt to bring to the reader the 10 patterns or concepts regarding great leadership.
As the president of a company, I would promote honesty, respect, service, excellence, and integrity (Manning & Curtis, n.d.). All values are essential for a company to be successful, but these particular values mean more to me. These same values will also provide me with the guidance that I need to deal with people, products, prices, and profits.
George Orwell is a celebrated novelist well known for his political satire in the fairy tale, "Animal Farm." The theme of power in the book is recurring and greatly present throughout the piece. Through the use of characterization, conflict, and irony, Orwell shows that those in the position of power can become like it's predecessor.
Even now, 20 years later, there is still confusion over the differences between management and leadership. There are several leadership theories, most of which are applicable to differing environments and situations. The purpose of this paper
From Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela’s charisma, to Winston Churchill and Martin Luther King’s intelligence and Steve Jobs’ analytical nature, there can be as numerous ways to lead as there are leaders (Crossman, 2010). Leadership is a hot debate both in the business world and other areas of the society. Throughout the world's, there have been as many leadership models as there have been their commentators (Burns & Peltason, 1966). Fortunately, psychologists and businesspersons have established useful frameworks that refer to the main ways of leadership.
I feel that it is very important to have a dedicated and knowledgeable leader in an early childhood education setting because they set the expectations and quality of programming. One of my favorite things to tell my staff is; children and great imitators, so give them something great to imitate. I feel this is also true with my staff members, a great leader is able to lead by example and be followed. They will follow if they trust that you are dedicated and are confident that you are knowledgeable. I think that organization, tenacity and experience are all very critical for such a dedicated and knowledgeable leader to possess. What I most hope to gain from this course are new and innovative ways to promote quality and gain other educator’s
Fortuitously, commercial individuals and psychologists have established valuable frameworks which outline the leading approaches to leadership; once a leader comprehend these outlines, he/she can obtain their individual attitude to management, and become a more successful leader.
Leadership is, and always has been, a vital aspect of social and economic constructs. It is essential to the survival of societies, industries, organizations, and virtually any group of individuals that come together for a common purpose. However, leadership is difficult to define in a single, definitive sense. As such, theories of leadership, what constitutes a great leader, and how leaders are made have evolved constantly throughout history, and still continue to change today in hopes of improving upon our understanding of leadership, its importance, and how it can be most effective in modern organizational cultures.
Leadership is being able to get people on the same page and work towards a common goal. Our text talked about a few theories such as the “great man” and trait theory, behavioral approaches, and situational and contingency approaches. In this paper I will apply one of the leadership theories from the course text to an organization and explain how the theory works with an example, describe how power and the influence of leaders effect followers in the organization, assess the role and efficiency of transformational and transactional leadership in the organization, assess the traits and characteristics of an effective team leader within the organization, explain how the leadership supports vision, mission, and strategy in the organization,
The question how organization can better enable leadership at all levels is an ongoing process of change within my organization. It is widely known that without leadership development, the bench strength of an organization becomes weak and leadership pipelines are truncated –putting the company at significant risk (Leadership: The One Skill Needed at All Levels of Your Organization, 2015). More organizations are realizing the importance of investing in their leadership development programs. As baby-boomers start to retire or move into less demanding positions, professionals in their 30s and 40s are eager/ambitious to take the lead (Developing Leaders at All Levels: The Competitive Advantage, 2011). Foundational theories are the backbone of today’s application of leadership in all aspects of business in a global society. Understanding the characteristics that define successful leadership is not feasible due to application of leadership principles in diverse circumstances. This does not defray the premise that effective leadership cannot be learned. In fact, learning and understanding the many approaches to leadership allows an individual to internalize and effectively develop a leader’s mentality (Derecskei, 2016). In this section the four core theories on leadership and the tools used under each will be discussed.
We operate in an environment that is rapidly changing, dynamic and complex therefore leaders are quite essential for the success of any organization. The establishment of leadership positions and setting firm expectations for the people who hold those positions is an essential part when it comes to running successful organizations. Leaders are given the task of holding everyone who they are in charge of accountable to their actions and work. Leaders are also supposed to hold themselves accountable hence setting a perfect example of what they are expecting from the team. The paper will look at some leadership examples which are meaningful to me as an individual.it will also look at my leadership skills and preferences as well as some potential challenges and areas of development. Finally it will look at some a strategy of enhancing leadership skills and competencies.
