In group one, the main component that seems to be working the best for everyone is our communication method. We developed a group message, primarily because texting is easily accessible for all four of us and definitely a common form of communication we are all used to. Moreover, Google Docs is also working well, I will share documents and open access for everyone to edit. This seems to work efficiently because we are all extremely busy and can work on the documents on our own time or at the scheduled meeting time. Moreover, everyone in the member has open access to every document and can express their own thoughts regarding the writing. So far in our group there has not been a significant problem which has emerged. Thus far, everyone has completed
In my opinion, group work is a type of cooperative learning that helps people to accomplish a certain task in a faster and more effective manner. Team working also helps to achieve the tasks that are impossible to finish by one individual. However, if people in a group have a lot of conflicts, group work will not be able to achieve as much as we expected. There are many reasons which lead to dissatisfaction in group work such as individualism as well as conflicts in opinion and time.
The importance of communication is crucial. Being able to communicate with one another allows an individual to create a moment of expression towards a particular interest they have, that the other person did not know, but also creates a uniformed understanding amongst both people. It is important to communicate because it also allows others to gain lacked information that could have not been heard or forgotten. Being able to communicate will not only allow you to express how you feel, but it gives others the insight into the way you are feeling if you are able to express in such a way. For example, if a teacher tells a class that their assignment is due at a particular time, then by expressing that to other students they may be able to receive the information needed. Furthermore, with communication also comes organization. Being able to communicate, for example, in a workplace will also help lead to the organization of a business. If all of its employees are able to work together than there is a more likely chance that the business will begin to grow, but it will also look more uniformed, organized. In particular, in college, it is essential to communicate because it is inevitable that we will be required to work in groups. If a person in the grow is struggling or not on the same page as the rest of the group than that will reflect poorly among the group as a whole. Being able to communicate will allow the student to receive the help that they need because without it than
It was clear that our agreed upon norms placed a significant level of responsibility on the group leader. In this instance, Kristian served the role well. Due to the variance in time zones the use of Google Docs as a collaborative effort, was helpful to ensuring that each member was able to participate effectively. One member of our group, had difficulty accessing the internet on a regular basis and email the group portions of the assignment for the leader to incorporate into the draft. While this allowed the individual to contribute, it placed an additional burden on the leader to incorporate the suggestions into the final draft of the assignment. Additionally, during one assignment, the leader formatted the document early in the day and email it out prior to allowing everyone to contribute. This created confusion regarding whether the Google Doc or the emailed draft was the current working copy. Through email communication, this small obstacle was overcome and the group was successful over
In the beginning of the group assignment we faced a couple of challenges in regards to schedules for meeting times and the proper communication tool to use. After a couple of emails, one of our team members created an account using Doodle to input our availability and find the perfect time for all team members. In addition, we had to find the proper way to communicate that would be great for all team members, after email discussion, found a group chat website that we could all sign in to and save our conversations to keep track of what we agreed on.
There are many different kinds of groups that exist between college students that deal with communication they range from sports teams to many community or social groups. The type of organizations that are mostly found in many colleges today are Greek letter organizations. In this paper I will exploring communication within the realm of sororities. First, I am going to start with the history of Sororities, then I am going to write about how important it communication is during what sororities call the pledge process. Furthermore I am going to tell about the different things that sororities have, such as the symbols, colors and different things that may deal with communication. Even though all sororities have different representations for
The reasons as to why people communicate is to express themselves and their needs, to share ideas and pass information, to socialise and get more information, share experiences, give instructions, share opinions, give encouragement. Observation helps humans understand the effectiveness of communication.
I learned two important things about group communication. Sitting in a circle makes talking easier for everyone because then you will have clear eye view of who is talking. This helping eliminate any miscommunication with not knowing who said what and being able to be heard a lot easier with the open space. The book states “An essential task of the meeting facilitator is to orchestrate meaningful interaction during the meeting so that all group members have the opportunity to share”. Having a circle makes it a lot easier for everyone to be heard by going in a order and taking turns with who will be talking next making sure not to skip anybody so everyone will be heard. Working in groups takes much coordination so that everybody will continue to work effectively. The book states "To contact members when questions or issues arise even if you're not in a scheduled meeting". This being a major part of group communication being able to adjust your time to help out somebody who has a question or concern. The group Imessage really helped at times like this to help coordinate with who would be answering the question based off what the question regarded but still including everybody in the conversation so nobody will be left out and everybody would still be updated with everything that’s going
Although I already knew the basic importance of communication, one aspect I never would have considered is how much, or how little, a counselor is able to share with the parents or teachers. Mr. Jim Thompson discussed during break-out groups just how serious the issue could become. Permission needs to be given before any information, unless life-threatening, is shared with anyone. This helped me realize that if a counselor needs to consider the conversations with students that private, I need to ensure that I keep my school experiences quiet, unless an individual may be in trouble. This topic can be related to the break-out group discussion with Mr. Brad Hagg, the Chief Technological Officer. One aspect of his work is to check the students’
This group project was very interesting. It was cool to examine the group teamwork that was involved and to see the process that was involved. I’ve worked with many different groups, but have never really looked at the way we operate and communicate. From what I observed I was able to see what was effective during our project, and the specific roles each person took control of.
Communication is a very important feature for groups. It helps members understand each other and explain themselves. Our group was strong in the communication field because we understood each other and gave every individual time to contribute ideas. The metaphor that we used was a brilliant collaboration by all four of us. One member insisted on using a rollercoaster as an example, it helped us get a totally different perspective on our topic. The members were of different countries and spoke different languages; however, they tried their best to express their opinions and experiences. The topic that my group chose was "Life in the United States", this topic was quite easy for us to talk about. Since all of us are international students,
1. I surveyed two people, Kayla and Chris, on their small group communication experiences. Kayla is a part of the Luke Empowering Airmen 's Development organization. The LEAD organization is a committee with elected members who are involved in the community and help their peer around them get involved. Chris is involved in bi-weekly lunch-ins with the Commander of our Air Force base. The purpose of the lunch is to help Airmen have a direct communication channels to the person at the highest point in their Chain of Command and also be able to communicate with other people around the base that they don 't usually get to communicate with. The attendees of the lunch are able to ask the Commander questions and offer insight on different ways to improve the workplace. Some similarities I noticed between the two groups are that the norms are basically the same. The main concept of each group 's norms is to be respectful to one another. The other similarity is that both groups show characteristics of the same communication interaction pattern. Both groups demonstrate the all-channel network because the communication is not restricted. Some difference in the groups are that the groups are in different places in the groups and team development phases. Kayla 's group made it all the way to the reinforcement stage while Chris 's group would rarely touch on the emergence stage.
Rapport is a platform for a relationship, built through a middle ground connection. It is essential to build rapport with group members, in group work, to facilitate the task at hand. During the initial group meeting, I attempted to build rapport with members of my group to get to know them and their goals better. After the initial meeting concluded I had confidence in knowing that my group members and I had the abilities to work well together.
Communication is one of the most important and valuable skills we have developed as human beings. It is the basis for how we connect with each other globally and shape the people we are today. Without effective communication, we would not be able to build productive relationships, express our cultural values, or most importantly, voice our thoughts. As we grow, we learn and develop our unique form of communication. Whether we are strong public speakers or prefer an interpersonal approach, it is important to find what type of communication is best suited for us, so we can appropriately and effectively use communication to our advantage. There are several different aspects that make us effective communicators, and knowing our strengths and weaknesses in theses categories will give us a comparative advantage on how to properly communicate on an interpersonal level. In this paper, I will discover the type of communicator I am, what I am good at, and what I can work on, to become an excellent interpersonal communicator.
Another concept the book discusses is ethical behavior in group communication. If you are ethical you act civilized. In group settings, this involves following rules, being respectful, and overall well-mannered. My group was able to follow this by being respectful when others talked, being honest with each other, and finishing with the highest quality project. These things, overall, helped us create a responsible group. We knew we could trust each other to get things done, and if we had ideas to share, they would be open mindedly listened too. Having a group with good ethical behavior allowed us to accomplish tasks with less
Communication is a factor which controls and motivates people to do their job efficiently. It offers a platform to release emotional feelings, which is challenging when communicating by use of mails and other forms of communication. There are many communication barriers when dealing with effective communication in departments of a company such as auditing.
