Leadership is one aspect of myself that I would like to further explore. I am a good leader when I am in a familiar surrounding and with familiar people and through this institute I am hoping that I can expand my skills and knowledge in leadership. The mentors I encounter in my life are the definition of what a leader should be like. Because of them, my leadership styles are formed. Since I am limited to just seeing the role of leaders in my high school and my community, this program would be a great way for me to see other leadership styles in different settings. I believe this institute will be very valuable as I approach my senior year and my future endeavours. Now that I will be a senior, I will be the “leaders” in our school. It is important to not only work well within a group but also being able to demonstrate leadership skills within that group. Leadership in college is a great skill to have in the workforce and something I think I need to further develop. Companies want people who will lead and not just follow. I am hoping that through this three day institute I will better comprehend what it is like to truly be a leader during college and in the future.
I lead by example and try to listen to what everyone has to say. Whenever we have school projects, I try my best to make sure everyone is involved in some kind of way. At times, I tend to be more of a follower rather than a leader and I am aiming for a change through this institute. Leaders play an important role in groups all throughout life. They have the opportunity to share their life experiences and the lessons they have learned through that experience. A good leader plays many roles such as providing guidance and support for the group as well as young people.
There are a few traits that are not my strongest and I hope this institute will strengthen those abilities along with giving me the chance to share some of my traits that I do
I have many experiences with leadership experiences due to my participation in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America). In FBLA I had to take a leadership role in a group project that we compete with. While I was the leader I influence others to get the project done and work together as a team. I made sure that we were all on track and that our assign tasks were being completed. When there was an issue I would try to help them and figure out what was happening. I would bring peace when there was arguments.
A leader is described as a person who guides or directs a group, but I believe it is so much more than that. A leader is a person that inspires people to do good and does good themselves. Due to my extensive volunteer work, I believe that I qualify as a fairly good leader. My outstanding leadership is shown clearly in my participation in community theatre. I have participated in the theatre community at Top Hat Productions, a theatre company located near me, for a couple years. My leadership in this company is shown through my ability to get people involved and my own participation.
I entered the Leadership Program with a narrow mind. I thought that I knew the expectations of leadership along with everything that leadership entails. After all, how difficult could it be to persuade others to see your personal opinion and then, get them to follow your dreams? All one needed to do was be passionate about a cause and have good public speaking techniques. Little did I know, there is a lot more to being a leader than meets the eye. By participating, I was
Leadership is being able to guide other students into being the best they can be. I am a leader who is always positive and cheering others on to achieve their goals. At my school, I have a position as the Vice President of Academics in National Honors Society. Since I have obtained this position, I encourage other students in this group to participate in service projects which is where one volunteers to help out the community in some aspect. These volunteering opportunities are good thing to do because it builds character and it is always fun helping others out. As a leader, I bring new ideas to the table on where we should help out in the community and anything that we could do in school that would fun and helpful. Along with participating in National Honors Society at my school, I am also involved in our Student Government Association. Although I do not have a leadership position in this club, I still engage in the activities that we do. For the past two years, I have gone to an annual meeting for leadership where multiple schools attend. At this meeting there are fun activities where you learn more about leadership and how to be a good leader. As a leader, these meetings help because it is always good to learn new
Learning how to be a leader in all types of situations has been one of the most important skills which I have acquired. The most important growth in my leadership skills was through 4-H where I served as President, 1st Vice President, and various other positions. I learned valuable public speaking skills from a lawyer who was teaching a public speaking class and was able to apply this in the various duties I undertook as leader of my club. Now I step into leadership roles with confidence, trusting my ability to work with and lead everyone in the group. When I join the scholars at the Hankamer School of Business, I will be able to fulfill any leadership positions necessary with confidence, whether it be in a small group or large group
In terms of leadership, I try to take it upon myself to step into a leadership role whenever I see that a situation is becoming disorganized or indolent. For instance, my English teacher last year assigned the class a group project where she took the liberty of creating our groups for us. As I began working with my group to plan out our project, I quickly noticed that not much was getting done due to uncertainty and a lack of communication while the due date grew closer and closer. Instead of just sitting back and doing nothing about the issue, I steered my group in the right direction by opening up discussions about the project where I made sure everyone had a chance to have their ideas heard. I effectively listened to each person, offering constructive feedback and deeply considering any feedback my own ideas received, and then delegated tasks to myself and to the others based on what was best for the group. If someone needed help with his or her part of the project, I gave them all the assistance I could, rather than just focusing on my own personal goals. Whenever I noticed conflict among members of the group, I courteously mediated the problem, as
Adults and peers have described me as dependable, fair, honest, trustworthy, intelligent, empathetic, respectful, and friendly and I do my best to live by these characteristics. One of my main mottos is to treat others the way you want to be treated. I am by no means a perfect person and I try to accept help and criticism whenever it is offered in an effort to keep improving upon my character. I am a reliable student, sister, daughter, and friend. I believe I would learn a lot from being a member of this program because being surrounded by peers with similar moral and academic character would allow me to do even more to make my community a better place. This would be a perfect opportunity to benefit from any experiences this program has to offer me and make a positive impact on my school and
I have demonstrated leadership in a several different ways. During middle school, I was a member of the National Junior Honor Society. In fact, I gave up a majority of my study halls to help out the advisor. I am currently a captain of my fall sport. Because I hold this position, I help the underclassmen during games, encourage them, and resolve conflicts. In addition to that, I used to be a teacher’s assistant to a second grade religious education class. Next year, I plan to join student government and maintain leadership positions.
As a secretary for the Turlock FFA chapter, I consider myself a leader. I have a taken a leadership position that has expanded my knowledge of how a leader should be and how to take responsibility. I have influenced other members from my school to participate in events and attend meetings. I have shown them what I learned and how I applied it to my everyday life. I also learned that I can improve and better myself from trying an experience that would take me out of my comfort zone. It was a little challenging adapting and keeping up with the events and
I have always known I love change, but from this class, I learned change is the hallmark of a leader. As John C. Maxwell says in The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, “Growth = Change.”The leadership assessments allowed me to understand myself in a new way. Because I am a curious green thinker, I need explanations and answers to understand my world. I tend to see the big picture of a project and my mind motivates me toward something new or improved. I am curious about new opportunities because I easily become bored with routine. Learning I have these characteristics has increased my confidence to pursue future leadership roles in a small to a mid-sized position.
As a leader, one must be kind and firm, making sure what needs to be done is done. As a leader, one must inspire their charges to finish the project completely and to do their best. I have been a leader in our school’s Journalism (Yearbook) class as an Layout Editor. I have made sure my staff has been consistent in their work and make their deadline on time.
A leader takes diligent time in considering the ability to adhere to other people’s interests and presents their followers with a positive mindset. This summer, I accepted an invitation to participate in the Dale Carnegie Young Adult Leadership Program. Attendees of this program learned several skills that can be applied to future experiences, especially on how to become an effective leader. Everyday, the attendees acted as leaders by accomplishing various tasks that forced them to reach out of their comfort zones. We acted as leaders by leading group
Wesleyan University Shelton leadership challenge will help me build the skill that are important in a leader. This program will help me strengthen the community around and also teach me skills that I will later pass to my peers once returning to school in August. The Shelton leadership program will help me prepare a self development plan the I can later use to help me in college and in life. This program will help me build relationships with kids around the world and help identify the leadership skill that I am strong in and the other that need more development. Academically I will benefit from from the goal orientation and decision making skills this camp will provide. Personally I will benefit from teamwork and public speaking. The goal orientation
The Colleyville Heritage Leadership Program is a wonderful opportunity to learn important leadership skills while also being surrounded by other students who express these aptitudes. A leader to me represents integrity, open-mindedness, creativity, persistence, and responsibility. This class highlights these characteristics allowing students to grow into responsible young adults. Bettering one’s knowledge and capabilities is most beneficial while being surrounded by other student leaders. All of these attributes make leadership an ideal place for me to grow and learn.
Heading into this course, I wasn’t exactly sure what it was about. Aside from reading the description on the KU website, I had no idea what to expect. I thought it would be centered around what would make a good leader, and the things I should do to achieve this. After the first couple weeks, I finally grasped the purpose of this class, and slowly started to work what I was learning into my day to day life. Through this class I have been able to identify what adaptive leadership is and how to apply it to my day to day task as well as how to work within the disequilibrium. I was also given the opportunity to reflect on what I was learning, through journals and amongst my peers through discussion boards, and how I was using my knowledge to identify different challenges I was facing in my life.
