Dumbing Down the Presidency The public have watched in suspended horror, or elation, depending on your perspective, how Donald J. Trump has turned the presidential primaries into a reality TV show. With his background as a reality producer and star, he has reached into his repertoire of gimmicks to unleash campaign tactics unseen in recent memory. Each and every night in the news, we are treated to his childish antics of name calling, insults to his colleagues and opponents, blaming and vilifying minority communities for the ills of the country and threatening to abolish the fourteenth amendment of the constitution. All of this happens as majority of the nation’s elite media outlets sits on the sideline, sometimes cheering him on. What is more distressing than watching the media become spectators instead of doing their job of asking hard hitting questions or correcting the inaccuracies that form the basis of Mr. Trump’s campaign, is listening to their so-called analysis of why he has become popular and leading the polls among other Republican candidates. The current narrative is that he has …show more content…
He is clearly not popular in Blue states. In fact, news reports has it that he had to pay individuals to attend the announcement of his presidential bid back in June. To gain popularity with the Tea Party folks, (who by the way, have nothing in common with him whatsoever), he has cop-opted their message and given voice to all the lies and conspiracies that GOP candidates have been telling them years. Since they have failed to deliver on their previous campaign promises, essentially because they are unrealistic, doesn’t make sense and does not represent the sentiments of majority in the country, these nativist base looking for anyone to blame have now latched on to the master manipulator and ego maniac in Donald
The New York Times columnist David Brooks calls it “the greatest political shock of our lifetime.” At the end of August, it seemed as though Donald Trump was destined to fail in his bid to become the 45th President of the United States. After months of new revelations of sexual harassments and use of vulgar language, spectators of the political sport were almost certain that Secretary Clinton would win, and then that fateful day came. Everyone, including some of Donald Trump’s most ardent supporters were shocked at the outcome of the election, leaving many to ask how such a thing could happen. While still shocking, ideas and concepts learned in the Election the President seminar have helped to explain the process, the results, and even the candidates themselves.
Donald John Trump is currently one of the candidates for the Republican nomination for the President of the United States in the 2016 election. He is having no trouble winning numerous state caucuses and is currently the leading candidate with the most delegates among his republican peers. In the media, he is a candidate that seems to have the most air time compared to all of his contenders; his saturated exposure can be considered one of the major contributor to his rising popularity. Trump delivers simple but effective rhetoric about tax cuts for the rich as well as the poor, anti-free trade, tough immigration reform, Nationalism, and other topics that naturally draw in support from the average right-winged conservative individual. His crazy
After listening to the panel of professors speak at the SCAD Keynote Event, "Explaining the Trump Phenomenon: Interdisciplinary Perspectives", I learned a variety of perspectives on Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. These perspectives were on different topics, including how he gained his supporters, his economic policies and other policies, what could happen if he becomes president, and much more. First, Trump’s popularity was definitely a surprise to a lot of people. Many of the panelists believe that he gained his supporters by shining light on some of our nation and government’s hidden problems. So he ultimately used fear to gain voters. One professor showed a poll showing that an overwhelming majority of people voting for Trump
In the heated contest for the American Presidency, candidates have been known to use rhetoric to gain the upper-hand and influence voters. Donald Trump, known for his hot temper and crass mannerism, is running as a Republican candidate against the Democratic Hillary Clinton who has a reputation for political cowardice and deceit. Trump grabbed the limelight in a negative way; once again, when media took advantage of a kairotic moment, or an exploitable and vulnerable situation, from his past, by discussing Trump shown on film voicing his opinion that John McCain is not a war hero--because he was captured (CSPAN 2015). To add to the cloud of negativity patriotic Americans began to build up in their
The American mainstream liberal media and press have started to set up the traps, to attacking Donald Trump on four fronts. Donald Trump is the only candidate has to speak up the truth, about the crisis situation in the US today.
It was barely a month ago that President Donald Trump took the stage for his unhinged, batshit press conference, after which he sent out a totally unbiased “media survey.” Questions included the even-handed “On which issues does the mainstream media do the worst job of representing Republicans?” and “Do you believe that the media has been far too quick to spread false stories about our movement?” It was, as we pointed out at the time, merely an opportunity for Trump to stack some numbers in his favor and rally his base following a disastrous press event. It was also, as we reported later, the sort of thing he could monetize no matter what, as mailing lists are worth money even if they’re full of fake
In today’s world, the most controversial politician in this era is the president of the U.S. How did Trump possibly get to the point where he was able to lead the republican party, even with overflowing controversy? Can anybody with immense wealth/fortune and/or credible political connections become the frontrunner of the presidential election? Regardless of one’s answer, after this presidential election the outlook on the set up and landscape of politics will change drastically. The accusations of assault, moral dishonesty, and racism towards Trump has brought more turmoil in the political world, feuds among the people, and rambunctious protests within communities than any other presidential election this century. Even though degrading controversy is associated with Trump, he was still able to use highly effective sarcastic and hyperbolic rhetoric, which translated to entertainment, to capture votes and overcome accusations of assault.
As the media and the nation continue the process of normalizing the inevitable Donald Trump presidency and its policies, his dangerous rhetoric cannot be ignored. While he is historically unqualified and unlike any United States president in recent history, there must be a level of accountability for the words of an American
Today’s media coverage does not truly report accurately on what has happened, but rather focus on their point of views and how they perceived the events. They mix in their flavor of the news and try to sway in their audience to switch or reaffirm their point of view. News reporting today has become “What I see is what you should see.” New sources today are filled with preconceived opinions relying on the theoretical what-ifs. Some, however, force their point of views on the readers, but there are the ones that reveal both sides forcing the reader to formulate their own take on President Trump and his claim on the booming market.
As presidential candidate, Trump’s campaign has been plagued by controversy. His speeches and social media have drawn the attention of many new sources and the media. This attention is the source of the problem according to his vice presidential nominee, Mike Pence. During a meeting in Manchester, NH, Pence addressed his concern over the coverage that the words of Trump are receiving. He voices his annoyance that Donald Trump is picked apart by the media, while Clinton appears to be left unharmed. This assertion appeals to the Trump supporters who feel that Trump is fighting against a corrupt voting system, that will be nearly impossible to win against. This tactic is not unheard of in presidential, but normally occurs later in the race, not
Although it may seem like Sander’s has gained more support, Donald Trump receives endless media attention, ranging from Twitter, Facebook, news, etc. Trump’s media fame started back in the summer when he surprisingly announced his entry into the presidential race. According to the watchdog group Media Matters for America, who tracks network news time, they revealed that Trump has gathered
As indicated by new information, supporters of Donald Trump like to get their news from TV and appreciate watching wrongdoing dramatizations. These discoveries may sound unimportant. Be that as it may, they really offer understanding into Trump's ascent. As a presidential hopeful, he's guaranteed that unlawful outsiders are flooding the nation with "no respect for the effect on open security," while cautioning that if things don't change, "we're not going to have a nation any longer – there will be nothing cleared out." This talk supplements our present media environment, which, as studies have appeared, develops a bogus impression of the world as a mean, vicious place. Furthermore, it's laid the preparation for a large number of Trump's best interests to fear.

In the 2016 election, not only were several viewers choosing to watch only one news station, thus making them ill-informed on a few issues, and biasing them towards the other party, but fake news stories were circulating around in an attempt to make one candidate look worse than another. The entire election season seemed to be one accusation after another, and the media seemed to enjoy it. From Clinton’s emails to Trump’s tax returns, hashtags such as “#hillaryforprison” and “#dumptrump” appeared leading to political battles between supporters on either side and a constantly swaying public opinion on either candidate. In the end, the media was a revelator for the character, preparedness, and intelligence of each candidate and a country was left
