An example that shows that art uses various ways of knowing is Frida Kahlo’s painting “A self-portrait with cropped hair.” This painting shows Frida Kahlo sitting on a chair with a very sad, disappointed and angry look on her face. She is wearing men’s clothes and looks as if she had just cut her hair very short as there are pieces of hair in the floor and a pair of scissors. At the top of the painting it says “look if I loved you it was because of your hair. Now that you don’t have any hair I don’t love you anymore.” Frida Kahlo used her emotions of sadness, disappointment and anger that were based on her unfaithful husband to do this painting . Telling stories and trying to unlock the minds of people through different avenues of artistic labors. Imagine that all around you is poverty and destruction. You see people dying of sickness, those crying for the ones they lost to war, no freedom of religion and no freedom of speech. There is only sadness and defeat. Imagine that you are now being told of a place of freedom, acceptance, and anything you could ever hope for or wish. You give up everything you have to voyage to this wonderful place where your wildest dreams are told will become reality because you found hope. Now imagine your disappointment when you reach this place and it is everything you wished it wouldn’t be. Everywhere you look is wreckage and suffering. People who had the same idea as you so they gave up everything they had to find themselves lost and back to where they were before. There is no acceptance or freedom because you are being judged for looking different, acting different and even speaking different. All hope is lost. This is the life of an immigrant.

Self-portrait with Cropped Hair 1940, Here Kahlo explores the social construct of a "woman". With this painting she is challenging and interpreting the cultural definition of femininity. This self portrait Kahlo eliminates all the social norms of being a woman in society. She does this by cropping all her hair which is one of the defining elements of a female, looses the Mexican dresses for which many of her paintings hold and loosing the modest posture instead taking a stern stance. Transgression is seemed even till this day a very daring act even though cross dressing dates back to biblical scripture (Deuteronomy 22:5).The way a person dresses places them in different social classes and enables people to differentiate the gender split.
Romantic Era literature can be, quite frankly, confusing and endlessly nuanced. Edgar Allan Poe's story, The Fall Of The House Of Usher, is no exception to this near- universal Romantic rule. This story was published in 1839 and follows the then-popular (and dreary) Gothic themes, exploring different (and new) ways to incorporate themes of chaos and order into a coherent, tragically dark message. Written from the first-person perspective of the narrator, The Fall Of The House Of Usher explores the interesting condition of the Usher house; more specifically it relates the tale of Roderick Usher and how he buried his sister, Madeline, and how she came back from the grave.
All over the world, art is used to represent many things, especially the artist's imagination
The history of art dates back to ancient times. Artwork can be, and was, found around the world. What makes art interesting is that it can be created in any way, shape or form with any materials. It seems that the artwork can also tell us a lot about the artist. Art seems to be simply, a direct, visual reflection of the artist’s life. Therefore, one can assume that an artist’s life experiences and beliefs directly influence their art. If we look at examples from different periods of art we will be able to see the connection between the artist and the art.
