In the ethnography, “A Society of Young women” written by Amelie Le Renard, she studies this idea of gender segregation within Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, and how male dominance plays a big role in the daily lives of young urban women. Le Renard focuses on the transformation that these women are making in their everyday lives to create a better environment for themselves. As an outsider of the middle east, when I first began to reflect on this work all I can think about was how sad it is that these women have to go to such extent in order to find comfortability in their own community. However, after now finishing the book I come to see that although the community is segregated by genders this is a step forward for saudi women. They
