The World State- Do What You Are Taught
This essay will be centered on two of the most important characters Linda and Lenina from Aldous Huxley’s novel Brave New World. The novel talks about a world which is completely different from the contemporary world. The world state in the novel is solely ruled by technologies to produce human beings, drugs to control emotions, hypnopaedic education to brainwash people with certain beliefs and thoughts. In the world state human beings are produced in bulk in the hatchery as a method to maintain stability and happiness in the society. And these artificially manufactured human beings are conditioned to perform particular tasks according to their castes in the world state. “The World State’s motto, COMMUNITY, IDENTITY, STABILITY” (Huxley ch.1).They are even conditioned effectively to achieve happiness in the way the world controller want them to which are through sex and soma. Linda and Lenina both grew up in the world state but Linda spends most of her lifetime in the reservation. To some extent these two characters are quite similar in their lifestyle as they carry the same ideals. Both Linda and Lenina are conditioned by the world state, although they both go against their conditioning later in their life, the control methods used were very effective, and this can be seen in different parts of their life such as pursuit of happiness, relationship values and the ways their emotions are controlled. In Aldous Huxley’s novel a Brave New World, published in 1931, there are several attacks on society. Throughout this essay it will be seen what these problems were and if they were fixed. If the problems were fixed, it must be determined when they were. The primary focus is to answer whether we have changed for the better, women’s role in society and the social classes. In the end it will be obvious that a perfect society is impossible but we have made improvement.
Aldous Huxley has a humanistic, deep and enlightened view of how society should be, and of what constitutes true happiness. In his novel, Brave New World, he shows his ideas in a very obscure manner. Huxley presents his ideas in a satirical fashion. This sarcastic style of writing helped Huxley show his views in a very captivating and insightful manner. The entire novel describes a dystopia in which intimate relationships, the ability to choose one's destiny, and the importance of family are strictly opposed. In Huxley's mind, however, these three principles are highly regarded as necessary for a meaningful and fulfilling existence.
In his text Brave New World Aldous Huxley imagines a society genetically engineered and socially conditioned to be a fully functioning society where everyone appears to be truly happy. This society is created with each person being assigned a social status from birth, much like caste system in modern society or the social or the social strata applied to everyday society. Huxley shows the issues of class struggle from the marxist perspective when he says the structure of society in relation to its major classes, and the struggle between them as the engine change its major classes. Huxley describes a perfect society created through genetic engineering where each individual is assigned a class from the time of being . In Brave New World by Aldous Huxley it states “Why not? Bernard’s an Alpha Plus. Besides, he asked me to go to one of the savage reservations with him. I’ve always wanted to see a savage reservation. But his reputation?”(Huxley 123). Clearly the social interactions of the upper castes are a little more nuanced than a simple matter of agreed caste status.
One may think that the society in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World is a gross representation of the future, but perhaps our society isn’t that much different. In his foreword to the novel Brave New World, Aldous Huxley envisioned this statement when he wrote: "To make them love it is the task assigned, in present-day totalitarian states, to ministries of propaganda...." Thus, through hypnopaedic teaching (brainwashing), mandatory attendance to community gatherings, and the use of drugs to control emotions, Huxley bitterly satirized the society in which we live.
Thomas and Linda’s son, John, is a scholar and resident of the savage reservation in New Mexico. Despite not being introduced until Chapter 7, John is seen as the centralizing character of the novel. Unlike the rest of his community, he is educated. When Lenina and Bernard come across John during their trip, they soon realize John’s biological father is the Director, Thomas. Once reaffirming this, Bernard and Lenina offer to bring John and Linda back to the World State. Hoping to connect better to the people in the World State, John gladly accepts. Huxley uses the future world and its inhabitants to represents conflict of how the replacement of stability in place of individualism produces adverse side effects. The novel is a satire of a totalitarian government and although it is fantasy, there are early traces of it occurring in modern day. It is hard to imagine a government that is solely based on the ideals of the people when there is an elected government body who makes decisions. The government’s goal is to have stability and prosperity and that, at times, is accomplished at the expense of the individuals who are governed. Accordingly, there is danger in having an all-powerful state because personal freedoms are lost. The new society that Huxley writes about does not represent individuality and is getting rid of the citizen’s humanity. “You got rid of them, yes that’s just like you…You just abolish the slings and arrows. It’s too easy.” (Huxley 238). In a conversation with Mustapha Mond, John the Savage expresses his feelings on how unfair the world is though his eyes. John notices that in the course if history the New World just banishes anything that is hard and makes everything easier, he says the side effect of this is losing humanity.
Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World introduces us to a futuristic technological world where monogamy is shunned, science is used in order to maintain stability, and society is divided by 5 castes consisting of alphas(highest), betas, gammas, deltas, and epsilons(lowest). In the Brave New World, the author demonstrates how society mandates people’s beliefs using many characters throughout the novel.
In the novel "Brave New World", Aldous Huxley creates a utopia world, where people live in a society with the motto of community, identity, and stability. In this novel, human are created in test-tubes. Taking soma to fix human problems and having multiple sexual relationship with different partners are considered as progress of civilization. From my opinion, throughout this novel, there are various contradictions among the characters. Huxley creates many characters who stuggle from their own values and the World States ' values.

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is a novel about the future of the world being a dystopian society in which the populous is kept ignorantly complacent. What makes this book unique is not that it is a book about what the future will bring, but that it is an indirect source of the cost of what such a future entails. Huxley also has a feverish use of reader assumption, often leaving readers to guess the outcome of situations through description and well placed hints. Lastly, Huxley seems to have a pension for being exact in both percentages that are used by characters for information in the story and how he writes, he likes to have control of what exactly his words inspire.

Synopsis: The book begins in a human reproduction facility where they are basically engineering and developing human beings. It explains that once a child is born they are trained to conform to society. For example, babies were placed on an electric floor in front of books and flowers, and to train them they were electrocuted until they learned to dislike books and nature. This was done to ensure that the engineered humans did not think on their own or come up with their own ideas, and also so that they would not be provoked by nature to leave their work.
