A number of people were surveyed in an attempt to find a connection between impulsivity and general consumption behaviours. The participants that were surveyed consisted of a selected sample of individuals chosen by a number of different people. Participants were given a questionnaire and the answers were compared and interpreted. A significant connection was found between impulsivity and general consumption behaviours and this indicated that the higher the number of consumption behaviours a person has, the higher their levels of impulsivity would be. This study will contribute to our understanding of people 's potentially risky behaviour in regards to consumption.

Similarly, in the essay “Commodify Your Dissent,” Thomas Frank discusses how these corporations allow one to flaunt their rebellious personality. Pinterest is a photo sharing website and mobile application that was released in 2010. The CEO of the company, Ben Silbermann, says Pinterest is a “catalog of ideas” and the saying is now used as the company’s slogan (https://about.pinterest.com/en, 2016). “In 2012, the website became the first website in history to break through the ten million unique visitor mark and it became the 3rd largest social networking website surpassing Tagged, and LinkedIn” (Matthews, 2015). The whole idea is to show people a wide variety of things to let them try and have new experiences.

With technology gaining the ability to intrude upon each individual’s privacy, people are only recently becoming aware of the ways in which this is achieved—while many are focused on, for example, the NSA tapping into his or her phone, the biggest invasion of privacy comes from a system which we often turn a blind eye to: consumerism. In the article “Economic Citizenship and the Rhetoric of Gourmet Coffee”, Mathieu uses Starbucks as an example to show how one company can appeal so strongly to costumers that the consumer turns a blind eye to the company’s ethics. However, in the article “The Science of Shopping”, Gladwell analyzes the methods in which retailers try to appeal to their customers to maximize their sales.

The unwilling and wanton addicts are similar in the sense that they both lack freedom due to the lack the will power they want to have. Each struggle with the inner conflict to or to not take the drug (first order desire). The difference between the two is that the wanton addict has no second order volitions while the unwilling addict has a second order volition to not take the drug. The unwilling addict fails to effect a change in his own feel will, while the wanton addict fails to have free will in deciding whether he wants to drug or not. The willing and unwilling addict are similar in the idea that they have no control over their free will. In contrast, the willing addict does not have first order volitions, but instead second order volitions.
Lastly, I chose to use Tumblr. A few friends that I had spoke to said I would enjoy using Tumblr because it is similar to Pinterest. Pinterest is an application that I love to use. I did agree with my fellow peers that said this site is similar to Pinterest. I liked the various ideas it introduced.
