Atticus believes in doing what's right no matter what. When Jem had cut Mrs Dubose’s bushes down he wanted Jem to go read to Mrs.Dubose and do what's right. “Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win. This shows how Atticus wants to do what's right no matter what. He had defended Tom Robinson without even thinking about his race, He didnt care what the town people said and he wanted to make the case right. Even if they had loss the case Atticus still
After Scout confronts Atticus about “defending negros”, Atticus replies on how this decision is for his own dignity: “‘For a number of reasons’, said Atticus. ‘The main one is, if I didn’t, I couldn’t hold up my head in town, I couldn’t represent this county in the legislature, I couldn’t even tell you or Jem not to do something again.’” (123; ch.9). Out of the lots of prejudice in Maycomb County, Atticus is one that looks passed race and gender. He holds equal respect for those who abide by the laws of being human. Not much of population consist of people like Atticus, who is not just fighting for Tom for the sake of the town, but for his own virtue. It takes a lot of integrity to stand up for what is right during that time and that is exactly what Atticus is making an effort to do.
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee presents Atticus Finch as a principled lawyer, committed but single father to Scout and Jem, and a law-abiding citizen. Atticus is a respectable gentleman in society and a role model for his children. Throughout the book we see evidence of his honorable intentions, though he doesn’t seem to reap the rewards. He is morally upstanding, even-keeled, and daring. Because of these things, Atticus is a man who deserves great respect and admiration.
Despite living in Alabama in the 1930s, Atticus Finch expects his children to treat everyone- regardless of race or class- with respect and dignity. There are many opportunities for Jem and Scout to concede to the Southern stereotypes of the 1930s, but with the guidance of Atticus and their housekeeper, Calpurnia, the children challenge the common stereotypes of the South- with some lessons learned. These stereotypes are based principally on race and social class. Several cases of these stereotypes arise throughout To Kill a Mockingbird. Many racial and social class stereotypes come out during Tom Robinson’s trial as well as during the children’s everyday lives.
Atticus Finch is a father and lawyer who lives in Maycomb County with two children and a worker in Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird. Atticus is a man of integrity and wants to help people no matter who they are. This is why he decides to help a black man in a rape case against a white women. It makes sense for Atticus to take a stand for Tom Robinson because he is a man of integrity.
“To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee is a book based upon racial tensions in the South more specifically Maycomb, Alabama. Atticus Finch, one of Maycomb’s finest lawyers takes a stand to defend a Negro, Tom Robinson. Atticus simply states, “Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win.” I personally believe it makes perfect sense for Atticus to defend Tom. Due to his beliefs in justice and equality, The Golden Rule, and taking a stand.
Atticus Finch is a lawyer and father of two children, Jem and Scout, in Maycomb County, in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus has a difficult case about a black man named Tom Robinson, who is accused of raping a white girl. Everyone has one case in their life that affects them, and this is his case. It made sense for Atticus to take a stand because he is a man of integrity and he believes in equality and justice.
The book we read in class, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, has a very interesting character named Atticus. He is a very intelligent lawyer who takes a case to defend a black man. This man’s name was Tom Robinson and he supposably raped a young woman named Mayella Ewell. Her father, Bob, is a drunk and has a tendency to beat his children. The amount of racism in Maycomb county makes it nearly impossible to defend a black man against two white people, buf Atticus still tries. In doing so, he upsets Bob Ewell and he targets his children to harm them as payback. Many people say Atticus made a mistake when taking the case because he put his own children in danger but he was just doing things for the greater good, plus no one really got hurt. I think that it makes sense for Atticus to have defended Tom Robinson despite the dangers and risks it came it with because he just wants to
In this life, it is extremely important to always look at things from another person’s perspective. The reason for this is that though someone may know quite a bit about one subject, they might not be so well taught about another, and therefore, they have different opinions based upon their knowledge on the subject (whatever that subject may be) than someone who had studied that certain subject. Everyone has different beliefs, and it is important to respect that.
“Parents are the ultimate role models for children. Every word, movement, and action has an effect. No other person or outside force has a greater influence on a child than the parent” -Bob Keeshan. Being a role model for your children is not just about telling your children what is wrong or right but parents also have lead by example to be the best possible role model. Atticus from To Kill A Mockingbird proves that he is a worthy role model for Scout. The qualities that Atticus displays that he is a role model is that he is generous and he is courageous.
Throughout “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Atticus displayed his compassionate nature by explaining his sympathy through life lessons given to both Scout and Jem that they can easily apply to their everyday lives. During the second half of the novel, Atticus is chosen to defend an innocent black man accused of rape. Considering the Finches live in Maycomb, Alabama, much of their town is made up of prejudice people who believe that all African Americans are guilty and are to be blamed for any mishaps that occur in the small town; however, Atticus has a much different point of view. Instead of choosing to give up on the case, he believes that, “simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win”(Lee 101). By Atticus taking the case, proves his concern for others, even when everyone around him believes that the innocent man, Tom Robinson, is guilty. Instead of taking this case as a curse, he turned it into a lesson to Scout explaining to never give up and to always do
Would you stand up for what you believe is right? Atticus Finch did when he fought for Tom Robinson in “To Kill A Mockingbird”. Is it true that everyone on Earth is different and it needs to be that way? What would the world be like if we were all the same? In my opinion, it is better to stand up for what you believe is right; you could help someone out of trouble, the world is and needs to be different, and we would be so boring if we were all alike.
In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, Judge Taylor chooses Atticus Finch to represent Tom Robinson in the case with Bob Ewell, and Atticus proves he is worthy of this trust. Judge Taylor trusts Atticus over the other judges in Tom Robinson’s case because he knows that Atticus will justly represent Tom.
Firstly in the novel To KILL a MOCKINGBIRD Atticus Finch is a great example of someone who is a good influence on Jem and Scout. Atticus is a kind, caring and loving father who wants to pass on his knowledge to his children. Atticus is a excellent influence on Jem and teaches him many life lessons that will help Jem in the future. For example Atticus taught Jem a lesson that he will carry with him for the rest of his life, the day he wrecked Mrs.Dubose’s flowers. Jem had to read to Mrs.Dubose everyday after school because he lost his temper and squashed her flowers. Mrs. Dubose ended up passing away but wanted to overcome an addiction before that day came. Atticus explains to Jem how that takes courage by saying ‘’ Son, I told you that if you
As we were reading to kill a mockingbird I realized that Atticus Finch Is a really great father and lawyer. What really caught my eye in the book was when they accused Tom Robinson of allegedly raping Mayella Ewell. The fact that Tom Robinson only has one good arm and is left handed when Mayella Ewell had punch marks on her along with her neck being choked, all the evidence that Atticus presented showed that Tom Robinson was innocent. And then Tom Robinson ends up being guilty and what happened to him at the kind of end wasn't right and all Atticus wanted was justice and what end up happening to Tom Robinson was very unfair, just because of his skin color. If I was in Atticus position I would be disappointed because you would think people would see all the injustice happening at this time. And would see that what was happening ruined his life and they wouldn't like if that happen to them.
He’s also eager to talk about his beliefs, even when the only people who really listen are Jem and Scout. When any other person would back down or give up, Atticus still tries to see himself succeeding. His biggest goal is upholding his integrity, along with his opinions, doing his best to spread the word and let everyone know the reality of the issue of racism that is so prominently displayed, even when almost everyone else he knows is against him.
