“Happiness is an Inside Job” discusses the theory that suffering comes from our own thoughts and not from the actions of others. The author, Dr. Robert Puff explains the difference between pain and suffering. He says “Pain is a physical or emotional sensation that you feel immediately and then it passes”, while suffering is the story that accompanies the pain. This method of thinking is called cognitive psychology. The treatment used is called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT. It is used to help people control their own happiness and allow healthy relationships to grow, even when he or she has been hurt in the past. Reducing the mental commentary and allowing yourself to “remain in the present” is the key to living a life of happiness.
