A team is described under the topic by Gary Yukl, The Nature of Teams, as usually refers to a small task group in which the members have a common purpose, interdependent roles, and complementary skills. A team is one that understands that leadership is shared, he proclaims. Yukl continues, by clarifying the distinction of teams by proclaiming, interacting teams are found in sports such as basketball, however, in bowling or wrestling the teams is actually co-acting groups. One such example may be given in the ministry of counseling, in which one is involved in. although, the task of the counselor requires one’s counseling to be individualized based on the need of the counselee, the fact still remains, he or she is a part of an important and valuable team that meets the needs of the church in the body of Christ. Additionally, within the team of counselors, there are certain expectations, as a team-member. Consequently, Yukl states, the team performance processes are complex when an extensive amount of shared leadership occurs among team members (Yukl 2006, 319). Yukl explains, there several distinct types of teams found in organizations, which include functional operating teams, cross-functional teams, self-managed teams, and executive teams. He also suggests, the four types differ in regards to the team’s mission, autonomy, duration, stability, and functional diversity of members (Yukl 2006, 319).
