I see that even the mic is an unnecessary tool for a power house like Ethel Merman. It is even said that if you give her a bad song, she would always make it sound good, and if you give her a good song she will make it sound great.
Her rendition seems to float with such ease while as she is able to sing her notes so effortlessly. Her voice has such precise annunciation and pitch as it cascades over the verses. I would say that it was flawless singing by Ethel merman. She uses the hard and loud Broadway style for her rendition of “I get a kick out of you” which can be heard as the pronunciation sounds a bit old-fashioned and different from the other rendition by Ella Fitzgerald. The piano is used time to time throughout the song and is finished with the piano as well. She shows great amount of freedom while singing the song. Its sung with uncontrolled vibrato and total emotional release. And in the song, we can notice how her skillfully Chartered orchestral scores help Ethel to shine with her golden voice
