“Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” Analysis of Illustrations Dr. Seuss has had an impact on a countless amount of people with his whimsical stories that rhyme and have unusual characters all while carrying and underlying message throughout all of the stories. “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” is a story that is particularly popular because of the message of hope and adventure that it so obviously portrays. Within the story is a tale of a young man who is on his way to do great things, despite a couple of hiccups in his journey the story ends on a note leaving the reader to think that they too can move mountains just as Seuss said. However, with this positive message that Seuss gives his readers, he tells another tale free of words with the illustrations that he has created that give messages of hope, despair, those we have left behind and the gender roles that accompany this kind of adventure of finding yourself and moving mountains. In order to reach a better understanding of these illustrations one must understand how they match the actual story and how they might affect a child’s response to the book itself. With each new page of this book a new display of colors and landscapes is shown to demonstrate the different settings that the young man is walking through along his journey. Even the cover of the book is full of warm colors that invite the reader to take a closer look at what story is being told inside.
