The picture “Open Court” is illustrated by Jose Ramirez and the painting tells a story about how society has changed throughout the years. The painting is giving a message towards Mexican American and anyone interested in the challenge people faced with education. The theme of the painting is about the progress that education has made throughout the years and the relationship with minorities. The painting also expresses the history of the challenges minority had with education. The audiences for this painting is anyone who is involved with schools. The purpose of this painting is to show how minorities tie in with education and have the viewers decide what they think about the education system in today’s day.
First of all, analyzing the painting it has four children in the middle of the painting. Having the four children in the middle helps bring the viewer attention to the center of the painting. Each child has their own personality and shows the different way they interact in school. The kid on the left seems to be a focus on drawing in class and don’t pay attention in class. The second student on the left is covering his eyes, which represents the shy kid in school who don't like to interact in class and set themselves apart at school. The third kid is reading a book in class and this seems to represent students who like to learn in their own time. The last student on the right is raising his hand and these are the type of students who are engaged in class. These four students are mainly the general type of students in school and I feel as if everyone can relate to these students. Jose Ramirez wants to bring attention to minorities and their role in education and with society and that is why the characters are Mexicans.
Above the students, there are words that say, “disenfranchised, discrimination, nonwhite, noncitizen, reclaim, reconstruct and rebuild.” I interpret these words as minorities being discriminated against and also what they have to do to help bring up the economy. If everyone has a job in the United States it will help the economy unlike if there are many homeless, it would impact the country negatively. The way minorities can help society is by receiving an education, hence the
It demonstrates that even without juridical discrimination; hate speech, lowered expectations, and dismissive behavior can have devastating effects on achievement. Black members of the blue-eyed group forcefully remind whites that they undergo similar stresses, not just for a few hours in a controlled experiment, but every day of their lives. Although these concepts are food for thought… they are merely preludes to the main course. The most important lesson to be learned here is that just one person can make a difference. Next we join a group of 40 teachers, police, school administrators and social workers in Kansas City - blacks, Hispanics, whites, women and men.
This exemplum shows the author’s viewpoint well; not only is the school overpopulated with 1,500 students, but it is also mainly filled with minorities, as given by the principal’s statement “this would not happen to white children.” (page 244) It reinforces his purpose by giving the audience an example of how his perspective is true in order to allow the readers to consider the author’s argument.
Another symbolic image in this mural is the bald eagle. In America, it is also a way of displaying freedom because that is the emblem of our nation. The last main symbol in this mural is the Native American woman because Native Americans were here in the land we call as the United States. They were nomads who traveled throughout the country and even beyond the country since there were no border or a sign displaying if they can pass or not. They were just free to go anywhere with no problem at all. Overall the whole message of this powerful mural is that migrating is natural for the reason that animals and human beings have been migrating since the beginning of time. In other words, they had freedom to migrate from place to place. This message can be connected towards the Latino community because many of them come to America to start a new life where they can have opportunities for themselves and their family. But coming to America, is not allowed without having papers since it is illegal and what Levi Ponce is saying in his mural is that they should come without having a problem because they just want their life change for the
B.2.a. Within this video, the teacher took her students on a field trip to observe citizens and gauge how the rights showed individualism in America. It made them aware of stereotyping. This supports students learning about cultural diversity by showing how others were treated in history. In student reflection forms, students wrote about how color should not matter when interacting with others. People can be a good person even if they aren’t religious or believe the same way as themselves. The teacher taught the students that everyone is different and that we need to look for and identify the good qualities of others. This was an effective way to teach the students because they became more aware of the way they acted toward others.
The artist paints a work of art “Chiapas Paz Mexico” which is influenced by the way of life of the people living in a river valley in Mexico. For the composition, he paints the mural by dividing two main parts by using flat form style to tell the story. He doesn’t show perspective or overlap objects on the mural. However, the right side of the mural, he paints an unrealistic shape and forms little village with buildings, trees, hills and people into the background of the mural, making them appear far away. At the top of mural, there is an army standing above the mountains of the village. The other interesting part is the old woman at the left side of the mural. She has the biggest portrait on black the background and is separated from a part of the village by the 3 soldiers. However, there is a rainbow ribbon connecting two parts together and the woman is a starting point of the rainbow. The rainbow ribbon shows the movement from the old woman to the river at the bottom right and continues moves
The painting is about nine black students who tried to enter one of the most highly accomplished and prestigious school in Arkansas, Little Rock High School on September 23, 1997. As these students were entering the school they got assaulted with stones, rocks and rubbish by the whites. As you can see on the painting Domingo tried to capture as much of the horror on the canvas that those black
The Constrained Court model created by Gerald N. Rosenberg, proves that the courts are weak, powerless, and ineffective for change among race, class and gender ideologies.. Using Lisa Frohmann’s article, Convictability and Discordant Locales; in which she is ‘reproducing race, class and gender ideologies in Prosecutorial Decision-making’. Frohmann uses ‘discordant locales’ as a bridge to describe how prosecutors work in sexual assault cases. Rosenberg and Frohmann demonstrate that the courts are not effective unless they overcome these constraints, set in the constrained court model. According to Rosenberg and Frohmann social reform is nearly unachievable, through the district attorney and victim cross examination interview and jury assumptions. As Rosenberg specified in order to establish social reforms the following constraints; limited nature of constitutional rights lack of judicial independence, judiciary’s lack of power implantation and inability to develop appropriate policies need to be eradicated.
This article is about a young black or African American students having hard time finishing school because of racial profiling. Michelle Obama is trying to tell these african american students to not give up on school because, of the racisim in the world. She is saying “we can do it.” In paragraph 6 sentence 2 it said “ because of that Obama urged the young women in attendance to go to school no matter what- even if it means attending “bad” schools with crumbling facilities and outdated technology.” In paragraph 4 sentence 2, no mods and bottles toward young black women away from higher educationg, many still do not get the education they should.
Many years ago, before courts existed matters was handled in a privately or informally. This often led to violence and unjust treatment of innocent people. During the rise of the Greek City States and the Roman Empire law enforcement became a public affair instead of private. (Siegel, Schmalleger, & Worral, 2011). Along with this movement became formalized courts and other criminal justice institutions. This allowed for law enforcement matters to be handled in a more civilized manner for resolving human conflict.
They were transforming the lives of Mexican society. The Scientifics and caudillos had their own purpose to form a revolution besides their struggle to advance Mexican society, but that interfered with the normal everyday lives of the citizens of Mexico. It was interesting, the illustration of the cave represents Mexico and the people outside who are the citizens want to overthrow government to keep their beliefs and establish their own rules. Because of this revolutionary passion nobody interferes in them overthrowing goverments, they are satisfied with what they already established in Mexico, they did not let other change their lives. In the agitator explanation there is a struggle between those in a regional (farm like) area and those in an industrial city. The agitator is inside the cave and speaks to everyone in different ways. Observing at the people themselves in what they represented the regional power sharing the space of miners, miners are needed for industry, cities, but they both share the same space, the same country, they both want to save it, but are in different. I think the farmers represent the caudillos and the miners represent the cientificos. farmers would represent regional power. and miners central, city power both want to improve the country. In an artistic way the color red represents passion to fight for a purpose, the purpose the agitator, the caudillos and the scientific was the revolution. In addition, the red represents fire and blood, related war, danger, strength, and power, between the
The sole purpose of courts in the United States is to uphold the law. In American society, the functions of the court have great value and significance because they regulate and determine the next step in the lives of individuals when breaking or failing to comply with the law, simple law suits, and disputes between individuals or businesses. Verdicts differ depending on the type of case; one of the most commonly heard forms of verdicts are those of criminal justice cases, in which the perpetrator is either found non-guilty or guilty. In many aspects of the American government there is a checks and balance system that was established as a way to ensure that there is not any form of government that has more power than another; in other words, the government is regulated to ensure that power is not concentrated in a specific area, giving that branch more power than another.
Hispanic art, food, and entertainment all have a common theme; they are all fun, light-hearted, yet fulfilling and rich in cultural heritage. On one side, Mexican culture in particular loves to make fun of itself. There are many depictions in song and art of lazy Mexicans in large sombreros with thick mustaches eating burritos. On the other hand artists like Diego Rivera paint large murals depicting rich historical events like the revolution, in bold colors on controversial topics (This Old, n.d.).
There are three women on the Supreme Court, one of whom is Latina, and there is one black justice serving on the Supreme Court (Brown, 2016). This is a major issue. The United States, the “melting pot”, has an extreme lack of diversity in their court system. This is an issue that affects several aspects of society. Decisions made by judges will affect the lives of men, women, and their families. The decisions made by judges can also create law. Unlike political officials, the people do not always have the power to vote judges into their positions. Instead, the people hope that their peers with the power to affect the system choose a candidate that will fight for them. Often times, this does not happen.
Through the colors, body language and objects, we are able to find the things in common between the two sets of people rather than finding their differences. At first glance, our eyes are focused on the situation that is happening between the two sets of people also known as the 5 different kids in the painting
The image focuses on the pain and suffering of a child surrounded by bloodshed and destruction caused of war. This images were effective.. And willingness to go fight for the cause. inspired many in Mexico to become involved with efforts to support the anti-fascist struggle in Spain.
