The book “Percy Jackson & Olympians: The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan is the first book in his fiction Greek god and goddess series. This book was written from the main character, Percy Jackson’s point of view just after sixth grade. As the story progresses its settings become more elaborate. The book’s major settings are Percy’s school, camp Half Blood, Greek God Hades’s Underworld, a beach in Santa Monica, and the top of the Empire State building which is secretly Mount. Olympus. It is written within the early 2000’s and continues as Percy matures. He begins his story on the first day of summer when he learns that he is son of Greek God Poseidon. Poseidon is Percy’s real father and quietly watches over him when he is in need.Grover is Percy’s best friend in school because he was sent from his father Poseidon to watch over him and keep him out of trouble. Grover helps Percy to understand his new life and to train so he can live up to his full potential. Annabeth daughter of Athena, becomes Percy’s closest friend at camp Half Blood after he beats her in a game of capture the flag. Grover and Annabeth ally Percy on his trek around the United States to save his mother and return Zeus’s master bolt back to Mount. Olympus. Hades is greek god of the Underworld, brother to Zeus and Poseidon. He attempts to kill Percy to take all powerful Zeus’s master bolt. Zeus is greek god of the sky, leader of all the gods and goddesses. When his master bolt is stolen he blames his brothers and declares war on them if it is not returned by the Summer solstice. Luke, son of greek god Hermes was the sole reason for this whole mess. Ares stole the Zeus’s master bolt and Hades helm of darkness so that the Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades would go to war because he wanted the entertainment. However, Luke was the mastermind of whole disaster because is a loyalist to the god’s father Kronos.
