In the film, Run Lola Run, the director attempts to portray the idea that even though all people are subject to their set paths in life, there exists a nature within all individuals that can defy the laws of reality and alter one’s course of events. Lola represents this defying characteristic of all humans through her supernatural ability to reshape her fate. Her entire demeanor throughout the film separates her character from anyone else she encounters; no one in the film matches Lola’s fiery red hair, her deep passion, or the abstract colors of her clothes. As she runs in the streets, she resembles an imperfection in reality, traveling through space and time and attempting to change her fate. Additionally, the director displays how Lola,
In chapter 1 of “Always Running” by Luis J. Rodriguez, it starts off as Rodriguez reminiscing about his family, when he was young and how it was growing up. Rodriguez begins to explain that his father was a principle of a school in mexico, and his mother was a school secretary. Both Rodriguez parents were unable to find a job within their profession in the U.S. This really describes how Rodriguez and his family grew up and how their lives were hard to live. As I read through chapter 1, it explains how he and his family had to move often because of financial problems, his ethnicity was a major factor in his life too. He recalls being discriminated against because of his race, he also recalls being pushed aside because his first language was
I’ve read many excerpts from books in my life. Most of them, I shrug off, or just don’t care about it after I finish it. That was until I read an excerpt of Always Running. Always Running is a book made by Luis J. Rodriguez. The book is explaining what he went through in his childhood.
Within chapter three, the author demonstrates poverty as being the primary reason why the novel is titled Always Running. Living in poverty for some people may mean not having enough money for their wants, but in the case of Luis J. Rodriguez poverty was doing things that were uncommon for a child. For example, “ I did a little bit of everything. Mowing lawns with Rano, picking up boxes and cleaning out people’s garages. I even did housework like my mother had done when we were younger.”(page. 68) At the age of nine Grillo had to learn how to work because his family did not come from good income or the luxury life everybody would want. Poverty may break or make a person and in this case Luis J. Rodriguez was trying to take his family out of poverty even though he was only a child. Luis J. Rodriguez was always running for a better life.
Distinctively visual is one which the composer of the text uses visual, spoken and written language to position the reader to elicit their ideas. In the film ‘Run Lola Run’ the composer, Tom Tykwer, uses the story line to emphasize how decisions made by an individual can have a drastic impact on the lives and futures of those around them. Tykwer utilised distinctively visual techniques of photographic montage and repeated yet slightly altered scenarios in order to show the importance of Lola’s decisions throughout each run of the film scenario. The use of the repeated scenario, along with the rapidly shown still photographic representations of the future in regards to people effected by the character Lola’s decisions the composer is able to put emphasis on the chain reaction of effects based on Lola’s actions. For example, in every run of the scenario, Lola encounters a woman with her
In hat way does the distinctively visual influence your understanding of people and the events within texts?
The film ‘Run Lola Run’ By Tom Tykwer skillfully demonstrates how texts use the distinctively visual to explore the human experience by elucidating time as a microcosm of which presents individuals with unexpected obstacles. This is evident through the opening scene where the audience is introduced to the protagonist Lola. Her journey is characterized as a manifestation of the microcosm in her race against time as she battles to save her boyfriend within twenty minutes. Tykwer establishes the connotation of time as microcosm through the opening shot where he uses intertextuality and epigraph by T.s Eliot ‘At the end of exploring we will arrive where we started”. The low angle as the camera pans to the gargoyle clock emphasizes the superiority
A composer can create images dependant on the form of the language of texts to shape a responders understanding of the ideas and themes prompted by people and their experiences. The German film, ‘Run Lola Run’ written and directed by Tom Tykwer, focuses on the experiences of the protagonist Lola to explore the themes of the inevitable force of time, and the issue of freewill verses determinism. Similarly, Dorothea Mackellar, in her poem ‘My Country’, relies on her experiences of the Australian landscape to convey her love and passion for the country using the language of the distinctive visual.
Run Lola Run, is a German film about a twenty-something woman (Lola) who has 20 minutes to find $100,000 or her love (Manni) will be killed. The search for the money is played through once with a fatal ending and one would think the movie was over but then it is shown again as if it had happened ten seconds later and changed everything. It is then played out one last time. After the first and second sequence, there is a red hued, narrative bridge. There are several purposes of those bridges that affect the movie as a whole. The film Run Lola Run can be analyzed by using the four elements of mise-en scene. Mise-en-scene refers to the aspects of film that overlap with the art of the

It is a story about Manni seeks Lola for help in order to solve his problem. However is strange for a man who relays on a woman; because Lola stands at a positive position as a problem-solving hero, while Manni acts as a trouble-maker which is negative and passive. Lola tries to complete the
Tom Tykwer's Run Lola Run is a change in the structure of narrative as we commonly see it. A standard narrative consists of a beginning-where there is a sense of normality, a disruption of that normality that transitions into the middle, and
The contrast of the large truck with the visually smaller Lola is used to show how close she came to being destroyed by this machine. This works to emphasise how luck gave her another chance to live and it was really because of chance that she is able to continue with her journey. This is similar to many occurrences in life such as death occurrences which people have no explanation for besides luck and chance. Another technique used is a long-distance shot of Lola in front of the big truck with the casino presents her a great opportunity to fulfil her journey to get the money she needs. This is used to show how chance is not always bad but may also lead to opportunities that will be beneficial in the future. Continuing on with the notion of chance and luck, Lola ends up at the casino and is completely oblivious on how to gamble. By chance again, she walks to a roulette table and bets on the number 20. The close-up shot of the roulette table, spinning and coming to a stop shows suspense when Lola was about to win. This works to place importance on the actual object of chance which in the real world is all casino games. The film is showing how just like Lola’s life afterwards depends on the small play of chance, many of our live depend on other games of chance. Life is essentially a ‘game’ of chance which affects an individual’s personal fate through our own actions as well as others.
One particular scene uses close up to effectively show the emotions displayed on Mani and Lola’s face. Mani portraying fear and anguish while Lola has a face of stress and her body language gives of the feel of her feeling responsible. This scene takes places as the start of the film and gives the story of the plot and an opening to the story. Close ups are used to get the audience's empathy or connection to the character. It gives a clear view of the emotions that are being depicted by both Lola and Mani.
