Zimmerman was not charged with any crime due to Florida Statutes Title XLVI Chapter 776 – Justifiable Use of Force, also known as Stand Your Ground, which states, “A person is presumed to have held a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another when using or threatening to use defensive force that is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily harm to another…” With this law the “fear of death” only has to be imagined in order for use of deadly force to be used.
