Explorer. Navigator. Colonizer. History concerning him is not and never will be complete. There are a lot of controversial stories concerning about and his history. Even through all of those stories Christopher Columbus is credited with sparking European exploration of the Americas. He was the start of something bigger than himself and the end of another thing. Throughout his family, first adventures at sea, and his crewmates who almost turned back to spain. He was able to change the World in more than just one way.
Christopher Columbus was born in 1451 in the Republic of Genoa, Italy (“Christopher Columbus Biography”). He was the son of Domenico Colombo, a weaver, and Susanna Fontanarossa (“What are Some Facts”). He had four siblings, three brothers, Bartolomeo, Giovanni, and Pellegrino, and a sister named Bianchinetta (“What are Some Facts”). They weren’t a wealthy family and therefore couldn’t afford to give Christopher a good education so he started selling maps and charts at a very young age (“What are Some Facts”). By the young age of fourteen he was already sailing on ships working in the trading business. He traveled to the Mediterranean and Aegean island of Khios or Greece. That was the closest he would ever come to the continent of Asia (“Christopher Columbus Biography”). On his first ever trip out to sea the ship was attacked and burned by French privateers.
