Recall, this a battle of names; Trump versus Christ. Verse 6 says The Antichrist blasphemes (or slanders in the NIV) the name of the Lord. I unpack this in the section titled, “What’s in a Name?” If I had to say in one phrase the focus of The Antichrist in the last days, it would be the glory of his name — the name: Trump. He demands worship.
Notice the last part of verse six says he slanders (blasphemes) “those who live in heaven”. The NIV uses the conjunction “and”: “and those who live in heaven”. The NASB says, “that is, those…”. Is this a re-emphasis or a an additional group? My guess is that The Antichrist will blaspheme anything and everything associated with heaven in order to convince the world that God’s sovereignty is just one big farce. He will call good evil and evil good. (Isaiah 5:20). It is possible this slander will include the saints in heaven as well. Why might that be? Because many within that company are the saints who revealed to the world the true evil nature of The Antichrist before they were raptured to heaven. Donald Trump never forgets or forgives. Thank God these saints will be out of his reach.
“7It was also given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them, and authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him. 8All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain. (Rev. 13:7-8)
