It is difficult to compare the older generation with the newer one based on the fact that one had far more superior technology. The pre-millennials harp on that fact by commenting plainly: If you millennials have all this at your fingertips, why aren’t you as intelligent as myself? However, it is unjust to pin this on the newer generation because compared with the oldies’ ability to only memorize, memorize, the under thirty are far more socially aware and street smart. The most apparent argument for calling people under thirty the “dumbest generation” is that they lack the most basic knowledge, propelled by advanced technology. Such concrete facts are geography or principal seaports or population or the gross national product as Simpson pointed
He is about to do what old people have done through history: stein said call those younger than him lazy, entitled selfish and shallow. He studies! He have statistic! Stein have quotes from respected academics! I am agreeing with stein theses points because if we can see around now the world we will see things we had never seen before. Unlike I can see the proof in my parents, my grandparents and great-grandparents. Every new generation becomes with new records in Olympics and other challenges. The generations become more challengers and more strong as we can see the people in their 20s that’s now 65 or older according to the national institutes of health;58% more college students
Mark Bauerlein seems to believe that is the dumbest generation because research has shown that knowledge skills and intellectual habits have gone down, and although some people agree with him, others don’t. I believe this generation isn’t the dumbest because there are other things that need to be considered when calling someone, a group of people, or even an entire generation stupid or dumb, rather than just knowledge skills and intellectual habits.
It is said we are the dumbest generation, but that’s something that is apparently said about every generation. And that is exactly what R Smith Simpson is saying. He says there seems to be a lack of knowledge, when people were asked questions they’d reply with the “thinnest recital of facts” some couldn’t even “discuss them at all.” Although Simpson doesn’t provide a direct quote to indicate that each generation is going to be considered dumb by the previous; we take in consideration the year he wrote this and compare it to the rest of the articles we conclude each generation will be seen as the dumbest. In his best-selling book The Dumbest Generation, professor and social critic Mark Bauerlein makes the statement that “those under thirty comprise the dumbest generation in modern history.” Which is a wildly distorted statement, surely the millennials don’t remember as much facts as there parental generations did but to call them the dumbest generation is completely absurd. In fact the under 30 generations perform better than the previous generations in many areas of intellect. Perhaps making them one of the smartest generations ever, with the highest IQ levels, there focus on accessing information and how there leading a literacy revolution.
First off, one way that this generation is smarter is through technology and writing. This group is now communicating to each other through text or various social media. Members of this group are continuously writing during their day and “so much [of this] socializing takes place online” (Source G). Through media outlets this is where they are getting an enormous amount of their literacy skills. Compared to previous generations where before
America nowadays is known as one of the most “techie” countries in the world. But, is that a positive note to have in the United States? According to Mark Bauerlein, an English professor and researcher, no. That is, not a great note because “knowledge and skills haven’t kept pace,” compared to what our ancestors (source 1). But that is their criteria. What if we would test them on our criteria? Would it be the same as if we tested on theirs?Technology does make life easier, but it is our choice to do what we want to do with the technology, we can obtain more knowledge or just simply screw around; honestly speaking: We are not the Dumbest Generation.
The dumbest generation is not the Millennials. Indeed this generation is smarter than previous generations because of better technology, and better learning of new vocabulary on everything that we watch and play as on video games, TV shows, we are always learning new stuff every time. New generation’s also have proof that we are more intelligent in test that people have taken to compare older IQ levels and newer generations IQ levels. There can be some proof that this generation is getting lazier and learning is lacking and we always depend more on our phone, but in my opinion we are still the smartest generation yet.
Have you ever wondered if our generation is the dumbest? Well, there’s some evidence to prove so. Generation ‘Y’ is considered to be the dumbest generation of all. This is based on numerous experiments, polls, surveys, etc. While everything else in this world is rising, intellect of each generation is falling. With the ignorance of facts, by choice, and lack of some education, Generation ‘Y’ is considered to be the dumbest generation.
Move over Generation X and Baby Boomers, the Millennials are marching through and equipped with top of the line technology and...smaller brains? According to Mark Bauerlein, Generation Y (another word for the Millennials) are the dumbest generation to boot. He claims the easy access to technology has made the generation less likely to concretely grasp information. However, bringing up new technology and theorizing that it results in dumber minds is a complete oxymoron, an unbelievable belief! The current generation may have faults of their own, but despite what Bauerlein has asserted, this generation is nowhere near the dumbest.
Are people under the age of 30 truly the “Dumbest Generation”? According to Mark Bauerlein, we are and our “slipping reading habits,” and “lack of general knowledge” are to blame (source 1). But this does not automatically make us the dumbest generation. Bauerlein lacks specifics on how this so-called “general knowledge” is measured, therefore Generation Y cannot simply be classified as a dud generation when there are complex components which tie into measuring knowledge. Our generation may be knowledgeable in different aspects of life, but is different equivalent to stupid?
“The dumbest generation” is definitely U.S. citizens under the age of thirty. By using logos and figurative language one can see how technology has had a negative effect on my generation. This gives facts and imagery to prove why this generation is the stupidest. “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity” (Albert
For adults to call this generation “dumb” simply because they do not understand the technology that most teens do, is the ignorant component of today’s society. Instead of insulting this generation, elders should embrace this new phase of innovation and creativity that will create new jobs, new technology, and a new way of thinking.
This generation has the capability to be more informed by using technology, but does that mean we are truly more informed than other generations? This generation has social media as a source of information, one also could go online for anything they need, and one has access to almost all the news around the world. I believe that this generation is more informed than previous generations, but others may think that teens don't take advantage of the information that is given and that we aren’t informed as much as people should be.
Today, almost everything is technologically motivated. Everything is at our fingertips with the push of a button; consequently, making our generation lazy or as Mark Bauerlein says dumb. What constitutes the term dumb? Is it a lack of knowledge, or understanding, maybe it’s the ability to retain the least amount of information? While this generation certainly has its setbacks in the field of learning and knowledge, it does not mean that this generation is the dumbest.
In the Avid Weekly article, “Are Millennials really more informed ?” by Darcy Palmer Jones and Syeda Sameeha, which is a topic of debate about whether or not Millennials are more informed. People say that we have become consumed to the wrong news, which i believe is false. I believe that Millennials are more informed. I think that Millennials are more informed based on their age and what they like or what they are interested in. Many younger Millennials have chosen what kind of news to be informed about.
