I first heard of the Eisenhower Fellowship Program during the 2015-2016 year. I was honored with the opportunity to conduct research through this program two years in a row. I knew that after the first experience through this fellowship, I wanted to continue researching for the transportation industry with the advantage of having previous experience. For the first year as a recipient, I chose to research roundabouts because it truly interested me especially since, at the time, I was majoring in Civil Engineering. However, this year, I switched majors to Physics/Applied Physics so I wanted to correlate my research topic with my major; therefore I chose to research adaptive cruise control systems. Initially, my research was supposed to …show more content…
Newer cruise control systems are being tested to combat this issue through use of GPS systems. I chose this topic initially because I wanted to investigate whether there existed such a device that regulated the speed of vehicles on roadways prone to speeding-related accidents or collisions. Delving deeper into my topic, I found that adaptive cruise control systems were, essentially, the device I was investigating. As I researched more and more, I found a subtopic that intrigued and fascinated me: String Stability. I was very interested that I was very tempted to apply for the fellowship another year to research it however, since I will be transferring to the University of Hawaii at Hilo, applying another year is not an option for me but I would still like to research this topic on my own free time. During the first few months of research, I attended research seminars which were instructed by our advisor Antonio Castro and organized by our MESA director, Rene Rubio. In these seminars, we would discuss how to properly conduct research, methods of research and methods of obtaining information and sources. We also created a timeline to help set deadlines for ourselves to keep us on track and focused. Attending these seminars was valuable and, in my opinion, crucial to the success of my research. Through these seminars, I was able to pinpoint and outline my topic so that the
I am very much interested in the field of engineering and hope to pursue a career in engineering sometime in the future. Although I haven’t decided which branch of engineering I want to pursue yet, my experiences as an engineering magnet student at Wheaton High school and the different engineering programs I am a part of have ignited within me a passion for engineering.
TRIO Programs are a group of federally funded programs designed to serve students from disadvantaged backgrounds in their pursuit of higher education. TRIO Programs specifically serve students who identify as low income, first generation, and/or disabled (U.S. Department of Education, 2016). Eight different programs fall under the umbrella of TRIO Programs: Upward Bound (sometimes referred to as Classic or Regular Upward Bound), Upward Bound Math-Science, Veterans Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, Student Support Services, Educational Opportunity Centers, the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, and the TRIO Training Program for Federal TRIO Program Staff.
Briefly describe (from “Googlepedia”) Susan’s and Edward’s effective research steps. And then describe their opportunities for improvement.
“There is perhaps no better a demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world.” Carl Sagan said this after seeing a picture of the Earth taken from the Voyager 1. In the image there is a tiny little speck that is barely noticeable unless it is pointed out. That little speck is our planet.Government spending on NASA has helped to achieve this and it allows us to see things about our universe that we would have never have had been able to see before. NASA funding can be beneficial because it shows us things about our universe that we have never known and things we would have never thought to explore. This is what NASA is trying to accomplish. However NASA funding can be detrimental because it costs more and more each year and it pushes us into even more debt than what we are already in. This can contribute to the downfall of the economy and the nation as a whole because of the increase in spending, and will lead to cuts in other more crucial parts of the government and the economy where the money would be better spent. Government funding for NASA is a benefit to society but, it is also a detriment to society as well.
The MacArthur & Casey foundations were the trigger for the courts to become more and more lenient, even for the worst offenders, over the last eight years. This gradual evolution follows what Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy has called, “The evolving standards of decency that mark the progress of a maturing society.” The Obama Justice Department has also joined the effort, says Fred Lucas in his article “Going Soft on Juvenile Crime: How the MacArthur and Casey foundations distort youth offender policies” from Organization Trends.
Currently, I am serving with an AmeriCorps program called City Year as I have described in the AmeriCorps specific essay of this application. However, before beginning my corps year, I traveled with my brother to Europe to explore several countries including England, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and France. Discovering new cultures and interacting with people across the world are great interests of mine so I enjoyed this transitional break between graduating college and entering the workforce.
This is a research study conducted by students of the SWK 335-75 (Research Practice Evaluation) class. The study participation will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. We invite you to help us with our research study by completing this questionnaire with a combination of 7 multiple choice questions and open ended questions. There are no potential
I believe I am uniquely qualified to become a recipient of the Matteson rotary scholarship. I am a dedicated, hardworking student who made a commitment to “Service above Self,” something the Rotary stands for. Attending a college prep charter high school, where extracurricular activities are encouraged, I became an active member of the student council - elected student council president in my junior and senior years, inducted into the National Honor Society, became a member of the InterAct Community Service Club, member of the Dance Team, member of the Media Club, Captain of the Track, Cross-Country and Basketball teams, maintained a 3.9 GPA, and all while playing a key role in organizing social, cultural and community events for the school, and leading group meetings for the various organizations.
Great Society, a program created by President Johnson in 1960 for the purpose of socio-economic stabilization brought a lot of the US government's reforms and its citizens. This is a continuation and expansion of the ideas expressed in the "New Deal" of Roosevelt with the aim not only to ensure greater prosperity, but also the equality of all races, in all aspects of society. Although there are many achievements in the program, this is a direct violation of the Constitution and should never have been authorized.
Increasing following distance between vehicles will also help to reduce the chance of a crash.
What type of resources did you use? Did you go anywhere to gather information? Explain your experience as a researcher.
I am super cited and grateful to the American College of Healthcare Executives for awarding me the Albert W. Dent Scholarship. This is truly a great help, and I am appreciative of the opportunity. My full name and mailing address is
Firstly, allow us to thank and acknowledge you for the important work you are doing to develop and measure employment opportunities for Detroiters and those employed by Detroit-based businesses. For some, the story of Detroit’s recovery will be framed by real estate development or tales of political maneuvering but the Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation understands that the true measure of Detroit’s resurgence will be getting Detroiters into jobs that afford them the opportunity to invest in our collective economic future.
Generally speaking the items taken into account as vehicle speed, RPM, and throttle position as well as many other parameters. More recently developers to begin using accelerometer and global positional systems (GPS) to provide feedback to the driver (Jensen). Yet another critical component of safe driving is the human-vehicle interface (HVI), very similar to the human computer interface/ interaction (HCI). HVI is used to produce sounds, visual aids, and other forms of feedback such as the haptic steering wheel to alert the vehicle operator of the roadway conditions (traffic, construction environment, pedestrians). Since automobiles are operated by single individuals, the primary means of receiving feedback are visual. Since the introduction of HVI “the cost for real-time control systems decreases” and the new safety features provide information that hopes to improve decision-making response time (Jensen).
Research can be a very scary topic when it is first introduced to a class, and I was that scary student. Research to me was like learning how to swim for the first time with a life vest on, and my heart beating 100 miles per hour because I’m so afraid. Taking off my life vest and diving into this research course has been very rewarding for me. I have learned so much in such a short amount of time. It has open my eyes up to a variety of ways I can start and conduct my research. Research is not so scary anymore. In this paper, I’m going to tell you about the things that I have learned and perfected while taking this course.
