After a successful re-launch last year, the MIFF Traveling Film Festival will be returning to Ballarat for a weekend showcase at the Regent Cinemas from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th this month. It showcases some of the best in current cinema from around the world as well as providing a platform for talented local filmmakers.
The Melbourne International Film Festival is the 64th year of the event since first being held in Olinda in 1952, making it one of the oldest in the world.
The Showcase includes 4 films with 2 being directed by Australians and the other 2 from USA and Ireland.
One of the films that has received a lot of attention is “Putuparri and the Rainmakers”. It explores the world of Tom “Putuparri” Lawford, an Aboriginal man dealing
The enchanting and heart-warming film Satellite boy, directed by Catriona McKenzie is a story set in the Kimberley Region, north of Western Australia and follows the character of Pete on a journey of discoveries and learning Indigenous culture. McKenzie delivers and utilises a range of different film techniques which help develop the themes of conflict between tradition and changes, confronting challenges and sense of belonging. Through these film techniques, the audience is able to understand that indigenous culture will be more appreciated because of its significance to aboriginals in their life.
As a member of the Board, I have viewed several excellent Australian films. The film I have chosen is ‘The Water Diviner.’ It is about one of the ordinary Australian bloke with a broken heart relying on a weathered charm and never-say-die spirit to fight against impossible odds. The film director is Russell Crowe.
4. The bargaining power of buyers: The outlook for the target market isn’t favorable for the movie industry because it will not be growing as fast as the overall population. Buyer power is a strong force because of the target market and several other factors including: the undifferentiated product offered, switching to an alternative is simple and low cost, and customers can stay home and watch movies. The consumers are also complaining about concession and ticket costs, along with the advertisements before the film is shown.
Film director David Redmon, created the documentary Mardi Gras: Made in China, following the trail of beads from a factory in China to Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras, emotionally exposing the imbalances of globalization. Redmond skillfully illuminates the clash of cultures by comparing American excess and consumer ignorance against the harsh life of the Chinese factory worker. The film began with the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans where people gathered to party, drink alcohol, and expose themselves in exchange for brightly colored plastic bead necklaces. The stories follows four teenage women workers, providing insights
The upcoming Denver Film Festival, which runs the first two weeks of November is one of the most highly anticipated movie related events of the year. As this annual festival has started to gain more public attention over the years, this event has seen
Film production and Art exhibiting may seem like two different worlds. The pop culture exhibition of Ballarat's Gold Museum of Doctor Blake, depicts Ballarat's golden era of the 1950's. The subtext of the popular cultural was created to add the platform of a formal exhibition for this major production.
The films involved with The Cinema of Attractions are disputed as being renowned for inventing a new and innovative type of cinema. Narrative is widely thought of as the only type of film in current times, but it came after the popularity of actualities. In 1900 people had more leisure time than they did before so they needed something to occupy their time. Films became an activity for everyone, regardless of class or age, and so there was a high demand for them. People were fascinated by movement and travelling as it was hard for the general public to experience most of the things shown on the films they saw; these films were called travelogues and were extremely popular as it allowed people to see the world. Actualities are possibly the first genre of film and have been argued to be the first documentaries. Common attributes of an

A producer who knows that their film doesn’t have a lot of money or publicity would use a film festival to get both of these things. Also these films will most likely be in art house cinemas but if one is particularly successful then this could move to multiplex cinemas the troll hunter is one of those films that has crossed the brigde from art house to multiplex and is now being shown in over 20 vue cinemas in the UK, the producer did this by getting the film publicity from channel 4’s sister channel E4 and making a competition for a private screening this made the film sort after which then lead to interest from multiplex cinemas. But for films that won’t need that sort of publicity will have a big Hollywood premiere that would most likely have a segment on TV showing the premiere and would include interviews with the cast, director and any other notable person involved with the film. Celebrities from outside of the film will go also to show the films quality and also so that they themselves can get publicity, films like this will almost always be shown in multiplex cinemas this is the same for Cars 2 but will probably have this kind of showing but because it’s a childs film the TV shows and so on will most probably be shown on kids TV most obviously the Disney
Belfast Film Festival - began in 1995 as part of Féile An Phobail and has developed hand in hand with the evolving culture of film patronage and filmmaking in the city.
There has been a considerable increase in festivals focus on race, gender, sexuality and disability in recent years. However, they are not without their problems! It is vital to think about how the cultural or artistic aspect of the festival is by the social aspect to ensure that the finished product meets sponsors, funders and audiences. Festivals targeted minority often find difficult relationships with distributors: a programmer and a sales agent or distributor may have different ideas about the audience for a particular movie. The dealer can not choose to partner with the target audience Programmer for fear of negative market impact of the film. Film festivals gays and lesbians,
The 16th annual film festival was by far the most consistent, well-organized festival I have ever attended. It was interesting to see a community of filmmakers come together and share their experiences here in San Diego. With it being my first film festival to ever attend, I was able to grasp and get a taste as to what the reality of filmmaking is through these independent filmmakers’ eyes. Targeting mainly the Asian/ Asian-American community, filmmakers where able to screen their creativity into the big screen and reach a more broad audience. Having the opportunity attend Dr. Ken Leong’s panel at the Ultra Star opened my knowledge as to what a passionate
I visited at 11am on October 4th, it was a cloudy morning and as I arrived early I went to the museum café next door. As I walked in I was handed promotional material which fits the theme of the exhibition with the leaflet looking like an old newspaper all printed in black and white on thin paper. The first thing I came too was a small cinema room which was displaying videos of girls dancing in traditional 1920’s style, all in black and white with the footage being somewhat grainy, this added to the atmosphere of the exhibition and set the tone for what was to come.
