In the book The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi, I think that the theme is it’s okay to take a risk. There are many times in this book where risks are taken. If there were no risks taken the story would be boring. Charlotte, the main character, was expecting two other families, but they could not make it. Charlotte obviously dislikes having to be the only girl on the ship. For example, on page 17 in the text, it states, “ But . . . but that would be all men, Mr. Grummage! And . . . I am a girl. It would be wrong!” This shows that Charlotte really doesn't want to be the only girl on the ship which makes her not want to go on the ship. Then she decides that she needs to take a risk. I know this because in the text on page 18 it states, “ With Mr. Grummage leading the way I stepped finally, hesitantly, …show more content…
Along with that, she took a risk when she tried to stop Zechariah's punishment. It says on page 120 “ weeping, gripping the whip handle hard. ‘ You mustn't,’ I kept saying. ‘ You musn’t’!” ‘Give me that!’” This shows she took a risk because she talked back to the Captain even though she knew she would get in trouble. Also, she took the whip from Mr. Hollybrass so Zachariah didn’t get hurt. Finally, a time when Charlotte took a risk was in chapter 20 page 230, “‘Is there anyone who goes into his cabin now?’ I asked ‘I don’t know,’ Zachariah said. ‘But you could go.” this shows that Charlotte is going to take a risk because she knows the captain doesn't want her in his cabin anymore but she is going to take a risk and goes in to his cabin to take the key so he can’t go into his safe with all the

Also as stated in the beginning of the story Charlotte was convicted of murder, and the men on the ship were really rude to her. Charlotte didn’t know if she could trust them or not.

Some risks might be good some might be bad but we will never know if we don't take them. Risk taking happens from the time we wake up in the morning till the time we go to bed.
Picking Up the Pieces is the film being produced to document my life. I have never put much thought into how my life would be portrayed or even documented. However, as I sit here thinking about what music I would use for the soundtrack, I start thinking about all of the things that I have been through in my life. All of those hurdles that I had to climb over and the songs that have so much meaning start to flow through my mind. There are many songs to choose from, but I narrow them down to the top four that I feel set the mood of how I have picked up the pieces of my life from a tragic divorce and moved on to now being a thriving non-traditional college student seeking to become a Hospitality Manager.

While Charlotte Doyle was aboard the Seahawk, she made many incredible choices. When Charlotte got off the ship she explained how she had to make many difficult choices. As a journalist, interviewing Miss. Doyel was amazing! One incredible choice was, Charlotte should have made the decision to take the key and continue the revolt against the captain. This is because, as she stated, if she didn't choose this choice then she would either have to wear her proper clothes and beg in front of the whole crew; or she would have to be hung.(245-246) Charlotte should have just taken the key and then rush out of the cabin. Instead of just running out, without choosing any of the options.
