Thirteen Reasons Why watches Clay, as he returns home from his university to find a weird and very mysterious package on his front door. When he eagerly opens the mysterious package it, Clay finds seven mysterious cassette tapes with two sides each. Upon injecting them into his family’s boom box, he discovers they were recorded by his friend Hannah Baker, a girl that he went to school with who recently killed herself. Her instructions were very clear, each person who receives the 7 recordings is one of the reasons why she killed herself, and after each person has completed or listening to the tapes, they must pass the readings on to the next person. If anyone decides to split the chain and doesn’t give them to anyone else, a separate …show more content…
The 2 were introduced by their first guidance counselor, who wanted to give them a trusted friend while they adjusted to the brand new school. Hannah never considered Jessica or Alex Standall a very close or trusted friend even though they hung out a lot at a local coffee diner. Jessica and Alex dated for some time and then later broke up. After the best butt incident, Jessica was offended that Alex chose Hannah over her, and the two stopped speaking a lot. Jessica continued to bring up the rumors about Hannah.
The fourth tape is addressed to Tyler Down, who stalked Hannah outside of her bedroom window all time and took pictures of her. In addition to Tyler, though, the tape also describes a nameless girl, a girl who Hannah knew somewhat well, and with her help, she helped to catch the Peeping Tom. Hannah felt violated by Tyler as her privacy had been infringed on.
The story of Courtney Crimson is shown in the fifth tape. She is known as a sweet, mostly well-liked girl, a personality which Hannah explains that she fell for. Following the event with Tyler, Hannah began to feel very excluded by Courtney Crimson, and even when Courtney asked her to come to a party she still felt a little bit of something going on. Courtney left hannah at that party, and later Hannah found out that Courtney had been spreading rumors about the things she’d found in Hannah’s top dresser drawer.
The sixth tape is addressed to Marcus Cooley, who Hannah had become matched within a survey. He
The book I have been reading is called 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. The major external conflict of the story was of Hannah Baker against the 13 reasons/people why she committed suicide. Everyone on the tapes had verbal or emotional conflicts with Hannah. Moreover, she also had an internal conflict with her feelings. She has constant internal fights about how she shouldn’t do things or hang out with different people, but still does it in hope for the best. She is already in constant mental pain because of how she’s been treated and hoped that someone may actually become her friend.
She interprets that the tape is actually of a murder, because of the way he refers to it, thus scaring her into a panic. Although this wasn’t the way he envisioned for her mood to alter, it still did.
Page after page, Thirteen Reasons Why captivated me throughout the entirety of the story and left me weeping over the pain that Clay and Hannah experienced. Clay Jensen, a hardworking, overachieving high school boy, received a box of tape recordings from a girl who he’d never thought he’d hear from again—because she was dead. She committed suicide a week before and Clay was still in shock; feelings to which I could relate. Clay scavenged around town for clues about her life as he listened to the deranged voice of the girl he liked, Hannah Baker. He then learned her “reasons” for ending her life: people and actions—like the sexual harassments that multiple boys put her through or a death she felt she could have prevented—that left her broken and isolated.
Heather tells Melinda that they can’t be friends anymore and Melinda gets mad because she feels like she is the one who took Heather under wing since she was brand new to the area and didn’t know anyone. Now Heather goes to sit with “The Martha” group and Melinda is left to sit by herself at lunch every day. Melinda starts getting depressed that she has nobody to talk to and she starts skipping class and getting bad grades, her parents and teachers notice this new change in her but think she is just trying to get attention from them so they just sort of ignore it but her art teacher doesn’t and encourages her to speak and show her expressions through her artwork. Melinda then becomes friends with a guy names David Petrakis who is her lab partner in science and he is pushes Melinda to speak up. A little while later Melinda sees her old friend from middle school, Rachel start dating Andy Evans, the boy who raped her and she wants to worn her but doesn’t want to speak so she tells her by passing notes to her while they are in the
There are seven tapes and each side of the tape is for a specific person who had a role in helping Hannah commit suicide. The first tape is addressed to Justin Foley who was Hannah’s first kiss. They had a sweet, innocent kiss, however, Justin decided to spread a rumor that much more happened, which lead Hannah to be called a “slut” for the rest of high school year.

Hannah’s actions define her to the community, and she it thought of as dangerous because of her behavior. Bush recalls a moment when Hannah is in Adam’s Rib and she kills a dog; while the dog “lay still and bent. She kicked him,” reminding Bush of “how dangerous she[Hannah] was” (Hogan

Courtney Crimson, started rumors that Hannah had sex toys in her bedroom. 6. After getting matched up with Hannah through a Valentine's Day survey, Marcus tried to make a move on her in a booth at Rosie's Diner. So, she had to push him out of the booth and onto the floor to get him to stop. 7. Zach stole the notes of encouragement left for Hannah by classmates in one of her classes. 8. Ryan Shaver stealing a very personal poem of Hannah's and published it as his, (a person she trusted wholeheartedly). (9) The ninth tape involved Clay and assured him that he had nothing to do with Hannah's suicide. He was actually really good to Hannah; he even confessed his feelings to her and they kissed. 10. Justin Foley, who was featured on the first tape, allowed Bryce Walker to have sex with Jessica while she was unresponsive. 11. After a party, Jenny Kurtz offered Hannah a ride home, but knocked down a stop sign with her car. Jenny refused to report the incident to authorities, and shortly after, there was an accident at the stop
Becky knows this and does not want to associate herself with them. Then you have the time where she tricks a fellow classmate into playing strip poker. When they cut back to the scene the young man has clearly not been doing well. Her feisty attitude is what drew me to her
The two sat on the beach and discussed there out looks on life. The setting was beautiful, and Hannah acknowledges this. The music, My Sweet Lord by George Harrison, sets the scene. Hannah Horvath, who flashed her vagina to the principle of the school she worked just one season ago, seemed to be acting like an adult women. “God, I was so ready to hate this,” said Hannah to the surf instructor. Dunham does an amazing job playing Hannah as calm and collected, perhaps the most collected we’ve seen her in the past 5 seasons.
For Thirteen Reasons Why, I am going to explain the literary terms. Thirteen Reason is about a girl named, Hannah Baker who killed herself. Before Hannah killed herself she made 13 videos of why this person made her make that decision.
Communication is a powerful thing that may cause people to either drift apart or come closer. People communicate to be understood, but the lack of communication can lead a person to separate themselves from everyone else, only wishing to be understood. In Jay Asher’s book, 13 Reasons Why, Clay Jensen receives a box of tapes that claim they’re by Hannah Baker, a girl Clay claimed he ‘used to like’. The only problem is that Hannah Baker had committed suicide some time ago, and she mentions how whoever is receiving her tapes is a reason for her death. Now Clay has to locate the other tapes to find out the secrets behind Hannah’s death, and how he played a role in it. Through the process of listening to each tape Clay realizes something. If Clay
“At least she has gone to a better place.” Stephanie whispered to herself. As Stephanie wiped a tear of her face, she spotted Lila huddled up in the corner weeping her heart out. Stephanie knew that Amanda was Lila’s cousin, but she was too afraid to say anything. If she was caught talking to someone like Lila, her social status would be ruined! It would make her from the most popular girl to the 37 millionth popular girl. She can’t do that to herself...can she? She had to do what was right. She couldn’t let Lila suffer in silence. She had to be there for her. After all, that is pretty much the only thing they had in common.
