There is no doubt that public education in the United States is steadily declining, and recent statistics and studies have traced much of the root of this issue to the horrific learning experience in inner cities. Davis Guggenheim, the director of the documentary Waiting for Superman, directly investigates this growing issue. He uses data, examples, evidence, statistics, and instances of several families living in poorly performing school districts with high dropout rates to uncover that education systems in America have become impaired by unions and states refusing to fire failing teachers under almost any circumstances, and are letting the students and country down. Inner cities have issues with motivation of their student’s due to lack of motivation. Their parents, sibling, and peers have dropped out, creating an endless cycle of failure, and these kids automatically believe they will meet the same fate and deem their education meaningless. Davis Guggenheim’s persuasive and argumentative documentary Waiting for Superman routinely includes and is structured through inductive reasoning by presenting accumulated data of students, teachers, poorly performing areas, and jobs to clarify why certain state systems are failing, and the effects it has on actual instances of students living in these areas.
