In Morgan Jerkins article “What Colin Kaepernick 's National Anthem Protest Tells Us About America” her purpose was to explain to the NFL fan base why Kaepernick is protesting. Recently there has been a big issue with white cops killing African-Americans in the United States. Kaepernick says "I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color." Morgan Jerkins tells the reader why Kaepernick is holding this protest and gives us examples of other athletes who have protested certain subjects before and how they were criticized for it as well. In Morgan Jerkins article ethos, logos, and pathos are all prevalent, but at times Jerkins weakness her argument with rhetorical devices such as hasty generalization. In Morgan Jerkins article the reader may feel as if she lacked credibility because she had quotes and facts to support what she was saying, but she never cited the sources or mentioned where she got them from. Because of this I feel as if she missed an opportunity to establish credibility. A good example would be “While black men only make up six percent of the American population, they comprise a staggering seventy percent of NFL rosters. However, their power is mainly found on the field, since there are currently no African-Americans who are a majority owner of any team and no African-American CEOs or Presidents. The majority of NFL players are black, while the NFL fan base is 83 percent white and 64 percent
