The story "What Do Fish Have to do with anything,", by Avi, is about a character who is a young curious boy named Willie and his mom, who taught him to believe what everyone told him. His mom would pick him up from school every day and when people asked why she just told them a parent should watch out for her child. One day while they were going home they saw a homeless guy and William was told by his mother not to look. Willie asked why and his mom told him it was rude and he was unhappy. He later thought about it and he felt that his mother was always lost in thought and always seem unhappy ever since his dad abandoned him. So he asked her if she was also sad but his mom didn't reply. One day he went up to the homeless man and gave him
Larry was a hard worker and always got his work done on time. This was important on the farm because every time they had to feed calves or milk cows they would know when to do it and keep track of the times they had done it before. When Larry got home from school he always went into the house and hugged his mom. He would do this because he loved his mom and without his mom he knew he wouldn’t be here. After that, he would head outside to do chores.
Animals such as killer whale shouldn't be kept in captivity. Director, Writer and Producer of Blackfish, Gabriela Cowperthwaite, argues that while in the wild there are no records of orcas attacking humans, but over 70 incidents have occurred while in captivity. Cowperthwaite begins building her credibility by interviewing former Seaworld workers, stating the conditions and behaviors the animals endorsed, and successfully employing emotional appeals.
Both the boys were from a same neighborhood, Baltimore and both had difficult childhoods. The story is narrated
They were then separated into several different houses never to live with together again. Willie ended up living with his dad who was constantly working. He strived in school because he didn’t want to end up like his parents. One afternoon Willie saw his mother passed out in a yard in the neighborhood. When things went wrong, all Willie could do was cry and be sad because he really had no one to turn to. Later in the year, Willie became homecoming king which symbolized to him that he did not let the past reflect the way he would end up. “Being named homecoming king was a powerful symbol to him that his past had not defined him nor deterred him from success,” (244). He finished high school and later went to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia for business. Willie did not let what his mother did or the lack of authority affect his success in going to college and quitting the cycle of his parents.
Sea World rebuttal was not considered in the documentary of “Blackfish” which clearly defines the bias views of the creator. So without choice, viewers are marked to take the side of the creator or leave the documentary feeling like a kid in a fine china shop, unable to touch or lose your balance for fear of shattering the look of the shop. Unfortunately, the problem with animal activist groups is that they force their religious views of animals on others with no other biases to consider. Hence, their real arguments are skewed and we are unable to clearly see the real poignant side without the opinions.
They took a sharp turn over a some railroad tracks and the back door flew open. Jeannette rolled out of the car, she rolled many yards on the embankment. When she came to a stop, she was too shocked to cry and she all bloody and scraped up. She called herself a burden, and said they could do fine without her. When her family turned around and came screeching to a halt, her dad got out of the car, knelt down, and tried to give Jeannette
The book Big Fish and its movie adaptation shows the importance of how different factors help to improve the story. This book tells of the legendary stories of Edward Bloom, narrated by his son, William. The tales of Edward Bloom seem fictitious and far too amusing to be real. His son is determined to find the truth in his father's stories in order to understand who his father truly was behind his fantastic stories. The movie does not fail in its interpretation of the novel, in fact the movie could very well be even better. The addition of new scenes and the focus on Edward's love life help the movie tell the story in it's own way, showcasing the brilliance of the art of cinematography. Although the movie takes a different approach from the
In Regarding Henry the main character Henry is a harsh lawyer in New York. Henry tends to use his id mostly in his occupation. He is very blunt and rude to his wife and daughter. Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite in the documentary, Blackfish (2013), argues that captivity triggers aggression in killer whales. Cowperthwaite supports her argument by demonstrating shocking footage and emotional interviews to present a convincing case against keeping these animals in captivity and for human entertainment. The author’s purpose is to show the problems that are caused by captivity in order to aware the audience that keeping killer whales in captivity affects their behavior mentally and physically. The author writes in resentful tone to Sea World, the people who visited Sea World, and those who were present during the killer whale incident. Gabriela Cowperthwaite argues that keeping killer whales in captivity at SeaWorld affects their mentality due to how they are being treated. She makes this argument by applying pathos, ethos, and logos.
Fish Magic is a combination of a charming scene decorated with vibrant colors to make one of the most famous paintings. The painting by Paul Klee has evoked multiple emotions in the audience, as it has it is full of aura. The Fish Magic by Klee was completed during his prime years as an artist before he died of scleroderma. The painting has however remained to be one of the pieces which sparked the creativity of the painter and infused a different level of skills to create a new figure.
“Blackfish” the documentary film was created to reveal how confinement of killer whales can lead to dangerous behavior toward human trainers. The main claim this film displayed is how the captivity of Killer Whales triggers aggression and is unsafe for humans and other marine mammals. Blackfish uses the story of Tilikum (most aggressive killer whale who killed the most amount of Sea World trainers), interviews of previous trainers, and court hearings regarding OSHA and Sea World to support their claim.
First of all, Jeanette was three years old when she had to start learning how to cook for herself because her parents were too busy being depressed and having alcoholism problems. Her dad named Rex Walls had a smoking and drinking problem that provoked him to be unable to keep a stable job so he was always on the lookout for jobs. On the other hand, the mom, Rose Mary Walls was so into her depression that all she would do was paint. Jeanette and her three siblings had to depend on each other to be able to survive. When Jeanette was three she was boiling a hotdog and was caught on fire, she stayed in the hospital for a couple of days until her dad those the “skedaddle.” What skedaddle meant was moving from
The school he attends when he is a little older is a school by any means, but there is great turmoil. Often the older boys pick on the younger ones and while this may be brought to the attention of the director (the principle, headmaster etc.) the older boys would be punished but it would be so overlooked that as soon as they were finished being punished, they would return from their beatings and give them back tenfold to the young boys who told on them. This section is actually one of my favorite parts.
The media is well known for relaying information to other people. The people who relay the information may not be completely educated on the topic they are reporting. Some of the type of components the reporters of the media try to relay to the rest of the world is medical cases. Sometimes, they oversimplify their findings and do not give sufficient evidence to their audience. On the other hand, other reporters of the media are able to adequately inform their audience.
