Texting has taken over our lives. The article “ Would You Ban Texting and Walking” by Kristin Lewis discusses both sides of the argument of if should texting be illegal while walking.Texting while walking should be banned if not illegal. Texting while walking has led to many deaths and injuries.According to the article “ Would You Ban Texting and Walking” between 2000 and 2011 eleven thousand injuries in the USA have been tied to distracted walking. In 2012, a fifteen-year-old got hit by a car and killed because of her being on her phone while walking. Even though the human brain is very powerful, the brain cannot focus on your surroundings and at the same time focus on your phone.According to brain reachers “our brain can't focus
Even though using a cell phone while driving is not the only thing that causes accident it is still very dangerous and most of the time it is the reason that causes death. A lot of people underestimate the power the that technology has in our society. Teens and adults are both are guilty of texting and driving but usually teens are usually the ones who suffer from accidents caused by texting and driving. Sometimes even talking on the cell phone can cause a car crash. In the article "How the brain reacts" it says that studies show that a persons listening comprehension draws the
Most teens, and even adults, use their cellphones while they drive. They think a quick text or call won’t hurt while they are at a red light. They call it multitasking, and think that since they have a hand on the wheel they are fine. In the articles “How The Brain Reacts” by Marcel Just and Tim Keller, and “The Science Behind Distracted Driving” by KUTV, Austin they describe how the mind is working in the cellphone situation.
Did you know that 21 percent of teen drivers involved in fatal accidents were distracted by their cell phones? Scary, huh? The authors of “Parents Share Son’s Fatal Message to Warn Against Texting & Driving”, “The Science Behind Distracted Driving”, and “How the Brain Reacts” discuss the risks of using cellular devices while driving. They claim that texting and talking on a cell phone while driving can be dangerous and lead to fatal accidents, and they use persuasive techniques to influence the reader.
Is the use of a cell phone worth the risk on the roadway? Cell phones have become an integral part of our daily life. With the increase of technology of cell phones, it makes our daily lives easier and more efficient. Multitasking results in those tasks competing for the driver’s attention, diverting the driver’s attention away from the roadway. The use of cell phones of any kind impairs a driver’s decision-making ability. The driver’s attention and their ability to process anything besides driving are suppressed. Their mind is divided as soon as their attention is focused on the obsession of their cell phone rather than the road. Cell phone drivers are stretched beyond safe limits when multitasking of driving and talking or texting with a cell phone which then becomes unsafe. Most drivers over-estimate their capability to safely multitask and assuming they have this ability is a hazard. Is it really worth it to endanger yourself or others while driving with a cell phone? Some people don 't realize the danger of this until something happens to them, a family member, or friend of theirs.
As the article says “We tend to walk more slowly or zigzag while using a phone.” A law that would not allow people to use their phones while walking can decrease the amount of people who get injured. Another quote is “In 2014 a 14-year-old was seriously injured after stepping off a bridge.” Texting while walking is very dangerous because “in 2012 a 15-year-old was hit by a car and killed.” So texting while walking should be a law in the United States.
Have you ever wondered if texting and walking is dangerous? The text “ Would You Ban Texting and walking? ” by Kristin Lewis, describes how many teens got injured by using their phones while walking. She also writes about many different examples of how it was unsafe, as well as, how it is common sense to known when you should or should not use your phone. I think texting and walking should be banned because it will save a lot of lives in the future.
Would you believe that anyone would make a law about no texting while walking? Crazy right? Well people are trying to argue about enforcing a law to prevent texting while walking! So let’s get started on why not to make this law. To start, Distracted walking has become a serious and dangerous problem in the United States. In this argument distracted walking is considered texting while walking. Some people think the solution is to make it illegal. Others think there are other solutions for solving this problem. Though Honolulu is the first city to make the law, of no distracted walking, doesn’t mean it is a good solution to this problem. There is no law needed against texting and walking.
Do you think texting and walking should be illegal. Some people think it should be illegal because people walk into the street without even paying attention and get hit by cars.
There are a couple of reasons why using your phone while walking is because it can affect the walkers . The first reason is because it can cause many accidents, and it already
As Scholastic Scope Would you Ban Texting and Walking? By Kristen Lewis states, “turns out our brains can’t focus on our phones and our surrounding environment simultaneously.” (page 10) Even though pedestrians think they can keep in touch with their surroundings in their peripheral vision, studies have proved otherwise. Distracted walking is still dangerous. Also from Scholastic Scope Would you Ban Texting and Walking?, “In 2012, a 15-year-old on her phone was hit by a car and killed.” (page 10) This is an important reason why the country needs a ban on distracted walking, so further accidents like the previously stated can be
I don’t have a phone, so I can’t text and walk unless borrowing a friend’s phone. still think that there are more ways to prevent people from texting and walking without mandating a law that makes it illegal. Texting and walking should not be made illegal because distracted walking is common sense. Making a law against something people should know not to do is just like telling them something they should already know.
Have you ever walked with your phone in a occupied street and some said lights red towards you? A law banning texting while walking is need because people need to be fewer distracted pedestrians so their is less death. There's so many interesting things on earth but our brains can only handle one thing at a time, there has been about 1200 deaths by walking and texting from distracted pedestrians since 2 years ago just imagen how many have been killed this year, some states are beginning to ban texting and walking hawaii was the first to ban it. The opponent has to go make a light on the ground for people to walk but that's a waste of money when they already have a light to tell them to go they need to look up to see it and if they do
Studies conducted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows that using a cell phone while driving significantly impairs a driver’s reaction time and triples the risk of being involved in a crash or near-crash, and text messaging increases crash risk by a multiple of 8 for all ages (NHTSA, 2009). Situational awareness is significantly decreased while engaging in distracted driving, and in turn inattention blindness is increased drastically creating a potentially deadly situation on the roads. A driver who is multitasking has less brain function available and thus literally fails to see or pay attention to things that are squarely in the field of vision (Texting and Driving, 2010). On the other hand there are those that may be able to multitask successfully though the challenge is
Distracted driving is a well established problem, so much so that many states currently have bans in place when it comes to using technology while driving. But the problem of distracted walking is a relatively new one. Each year, more and more people are injured as a result of texting, talking or listening to music while on their cell phones. And while we might laugh at the woman who falls into the fountain while texting, or the man who walks into a wall while texting, the problem of distracted walking is a very real and serious one. by distracted walking has risen and it will definitely be
Cell phones have become increasingly prevalent in modern life. At the same time, they bring the possibility of many distractions. These types of distractions can be potentially dangerous and even deadly (i.e. texting and driving) and can lead to experiencing inattentional blindness (failure to see unexpected/unusual stimulus in plain sight). Text messaging has been found to affect a person’s natural walk (Lamberg & Muratori , 2012), showing that they can be very inhibiting for a pedestrian. Thus, cell phone use while crossing the street could be very dangerous because of not noticing surroundings (cars, people, etc.), traffic cues (stop lights, signs, etc.), and the possibility of walking off the designated path such as a cross walk. Although there have been studies looking at cell phone use and the effects of it on attention, they mostly focus on how it has impacted drivers and pedestrians as a whole, without differentiating types of people it could potentially effect. Having information on the type of person to experience inattentional blindness because of cell phone use could lead to better ways in improving people’s overall safety and awareness and decrease the amount of vehicle-related deaths.
