Analytical Paper on Moonrise Kingdom From the moment you turn on a Wes Anderson movie, you can easily recognize it’s his due to the unique style. Moonrise Kingdom is one of his most popular and stylized films to date. One scene in particular I want to look into is the scene when Scout Master Ward and the other scouts are introduced. (5:31- 8:39) This scene is important to setting up the rest of the movie. It introduces us to the antagonists for the first part of the film as well as showing that Sam ran away from the camp. The opening shot to the scene tells you everything about the location. The wooden sign lets you know right away that they’re in a boy scout camp, while the sign also works as a frame around the tents in the background. (5:31-5:42) Then it cuts to Scout Master Ward exiting a tent and going about his daily business. From the moment his character is introduced, you can tell that he’s in a position of power. (5:42-5:55) This claim is further supported when all the characters are sitting at the breakfast table, and Scout Master Ward sits in the middle. (7:43-7:53) Most films may have Scout Master Ward sitting at the head of the table, however with the way this scene is shot, it makes sense that he be in the exact middle to show his power dynamic.
All the colors in the scene have an earthy tone, meaning there is a lot of browns, dark greens and yellows. This works because they’re supposed to be at a boy scout camp, and are learning to be experts in the
