I chose the song “Praying” by Kesha. This song is possibly inspired by an ex. This ex of Kesha’s told her she was nothing without him, that she couldn’t make it on her own. She believed these things for a while, then realized she didn’t him. She told herself she could do it, and that she was powerful and strong. Even though all this has happened and the ex is gone, she still hopes he’s okay. She hopes he finds his peace and becomes a better person. In the song she states, “No more monsters, I can breathe again.” She saying that now that this ex is gone she can live and they aren’t holding her down anymore. This song is kind of a mixture of a sadder song and an upbeat song. It is upbeat in the sense that the music is jumpier and she’s singing
When the song came out in 2015, I was in the midst of graduating and truly coming to terms with the person I am. Going through this period of self-realization, the lyrics “You can't rush your healing/Darkness has its teachings/Love is never leaving/You can't rush your healing” (II. 19-22) really went to show me that the hard times I was going through were placed in my way as learning experiences. Listening to the mellow tunes of this song had such powerful repercussion on my mood as well. Not only the content of the words, reassuring me that everything will pass, but the actual vibrations of sound forced me into a meditative/healing state of
I have chosen a song that I would say is a country song. It is actually a song that I have known for many years and that I actually taken ato. This song would be “Chicken Fried” by Zac Brown. In this song, Brown sings about things such as enjoying his evenings with family and getting to dine on his favorite meals, being raised in the South, and giving thanks to God and the people who fought for the freedom of our nation. In the chorus, he is described to the listener that he is with his family, and presumably friends as well, enjoying each other’s company on a Friday night. He also explained getting to eat some fried chicken, drink beer, and listen to the radio. He then mentions that he was born and raised in Georgia Pine. Then in the next
I think the author of the poem, "leaving the Motel," would approve of the song, "Me and Mrs. Jones," to express his poem in song form. It defines a furtive affair between a man and his lover. In the poem, "Leaving the Motel," the author describes two people are having an affair. The private couple do not want to get caught and ruin their lives outside of the relationship. The author writes, "Too. Keep things straight: don't take --The matches, the wrong keyrings--We've nowhere we could keep a keepsake" This line means the couple is double-check to make sure they have nothing of each others. Snodgrass was implying that there is no room for any mistakes in this relationship. If they had taken something of one another, they would be found out. Their secret would be relived. Now in the song, the composer Billy Paul writes, "We gotta be extra careful -- That do we don't build our

The first song that I have chosen is “White Liar” by Miranda Lambert because this song represents what I went through during my very tragic divorce. Lambert is an American country music artist who co-wrote this song with Natalie Hemby. The song was released in August of 2009. The reason I chose this song is because the words remind me of what I went through when I found out that my husband of six years had been cheating on me and how I felt. Lambert sings, “Hey white liar, the truth comes out a little at a time and it spreads just like a fire.” My husband had been cheating on me and the entire time, I sensed something was wrong, but he continued to tell me that I was wrong. According to him, they were just friends. In reality, I too was also a white liar
Fake Love” written by Drake is a great representation of how Macbeth was a fake king and how he obtained his reign of kingship in Scotland was through a disrespectful way of betraying King Duncan and in Drakes song it corresponds to how he was disrespectful and how he betrayed King Duncan. It also represents when the witches were brewing up a new prophecy and they wouldn’t tell Macbeth what was going on, so he also had fake friends in the play too. But in the scene where he killed Duncan Act 1 Scene 7 of “MacBeth” this relates to the song “Fake Love” because it shows that Macbeth has betrayed the king when he killed him in his own home and that it has never been the same after that for Macbeth. A quote from Drake’s lyrics that represents what
In the article “A Masterpiece at Ground Zero”, by Martin Filler, the author attempts to express his high regard for the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. Despite the fact that he is presenting his argument to a an audience who is already interested in reading more intense articles since they are subscribed to the publisher, Filler uses highly specified design terminology and structures his article in a non-linear, confusing way. Therefore, his overall argument in support of the memorial is lost in the style of his article, and does not create a strong basis for further support of this contested public work. Throughout the entire article, Filler consistently illustrates his arguments with complex vocabulary and references that deduct from a general audiences understanding of the article.
“no churches in the wild” is a song made by Jay-z with Kanye west featuring in It, right from the start of the song you know that something is not right, it is not a usual hip-hop song, the more you listen to it you can pick more and more out of it for example;
My story has a meaningful story behind it. The story is deep for me and even for the artist and probably for many other people. Hearing songs like this can inspire you. It inspired me to be thankful for the people in my life. One day they can be here the next they could be gone. You never know what’s going on in their lives.
As the title of the paper suggests, I chose Kendrick Lamar’s song “Blacker the Berry” off the To Pimp A Butterfly album. When selecting a song, I actually took to Twitter to ask my followers what song I should write about. I personally do not listen to Kendrick Lamar so I decided to ask people who enjoy his music to recommend songs that an analysis should be written over. Several people mentioned “Blacker The Berry”. Although I did not hear the many rhymes and metaphors at first, after reading the lyrics along with listening to the song I was quick to realize how creative, witty and almost unintentional the rapping’s of Kendrick Lamar are. Another reason I decided on this song is because he raps about current violence of high profile crimes
In my opinion, Kendrick Lamar, an award-winning rapper and songwriter, has one of the best abilities to describe his distressed and abused lifestyle in Compton, California. He is not your original cliché artist who does not speak about anything meaningful. Kendrick, also known as K. Dot, is one of the most well known and most respected rappers in this era. Not only does he speak about his gloomy past, but he also speaks about his fortunate future. His ability to give detailed representations of his struggles and his story telling allows me to, metaphorically, enter the mind of Kendrick Lamar.
Lauryn Hill once said, “Truth comes, but we can’t not hear it when we’ve been programmed to fear it? Lauryn Hill, a songwriter, singer and rapper from New Jersey expresses her strong emotion on the justice and legal system in her song, Mystery of Iniquity. The Mystery of Iniquity is a verse taken from the bible; 2 Thessalonians 2:7. The word iniquity means immoral or grossly unfair behavior. In her song, she exposes her truth and views of the legal system. She touches on multiple topics such as religion, policing, court systems and orders, the president, and the amount of African Americans incarcerated. This song was released in the early 2000s, when
People will always need help and I think that when you do not feel secure, there is always important to call for help. My second song was “I will Survive” Gloria Gaynor because sometime after a break up, some people feel unconfident and not safety, but after a time passes, people can come along with that security that they used to have before.
The above text is the hook to the poem “Mystery of Iniquity” Before going in depth with the first piece of the poem; something stands out in the first two stanzas: “iniquity” and “inequity”. According to Webster’s dictionary, inquity is defined as “gross injustice; a wicked act or thing” and inequity is defined as “injustice, unfairness; an instance of injustice or unfairness” (Merriam-Webster) Here Ms. Hill sets the tone for the rest of the poem. She explains that the unfairness of iniquity and inequity is a miserable feeling. She is talking directly to those that share her unfortunate circumstances of being treated unfairly in a state of misery. The pre verse that follows the hook brings the topic of religion into view. The first four lines in the pre-verse symbolize Biblical meaning and give way to religious pretext. The verse says
The song "U.N.I.T.Y." by Queen Latifah, released in 1994, is a hip-hop song with a theme about the harassment, domestic violence and sexist slurs against women, black woman to be specific. Should “U.N.I.T.Y” be considered literature, specifically is it a poem? I think that every song, no matter what the genre is free verse poetry. However, this artist and song are important in the hip-hop as literature genre movement because of both the artist’s credibility and the message that she is delivering.
