Analyzing The Movie 'Fargo'

Post modernism can be seen as a turning against structuralism and the rigid thinking of genre. Shaun of the Dead(Focus) is a postmodern film as a combination of two genres: horror and comedy. Horror and comedy are both opposites but did very well together in this film. Shaun of the Dead is a post-modern as it had all of the elements of a horror film but is in fact a comedy. The film was directed and written by “Edgar Wright” (Wright) and co-written by “Simon Peggs” (Peggs). The film is a hybrid romantic, zombie and a comedy. These genres contradict each other therefore resulting the film to be seen as a comedy as these opposing genres are not normally combined with each other.

This article discusses an incident that happened outside of Fargo, North Dakota in 1955. On June 12, a grain elevator that was being steadily filled for the first time collapsed. The collapse was not due to a weakness in the structure itself, but the weakness of the soil upon which it was built.

The reason behind why I picked the movie “Snow on Tha Bluff” to be my culture is because I wanted to understand and watch how their lifestyle of living and what they had to do in their culture. Also, I wanted to understand what was their reason why they wanted to hurt each other, sell drugs, and wanted to stay in the living lifestyle that they were in.

“Steel Magnolias” is a story about the close-knit relationships between six eccentric Southern women living in a small town in Louisiana. The film has a home spun, unpretentious feel to it. The plot alternates between humorous, everyday events with good-natured quips and the seriousness and heartaches to life’s unexpected crises. Through the laughs and tears, the six women learn to endure hard times and emerge from the struggles with grace and dignity. The film is set in the 1980’s with a tight knit homespun atmosphere. Tombstone was released December 25, 1993 and made $6,454,752 in the first week. Tombstone is based in the city of Tombstone in the Arizona Territory during the 1880s. The movie is about the conflict that an ex-cattle town sheriff and his family face. Wyatt Earp, played by Kurt Russell, his older Brother Virgil Earp, (Sam Elliott), and his younger brother Morgan Earp, (Bill Paxton), come to Tombstone to become miners. When they first get off the wagon at the hotel, the county sheriff greets them and gives them a tour and they come to a saloon put out the business by Ike Clanton, (Stephen Lang). Wyatt throws Clanton out of the saloon. Milt Joyce, (Pat Brady) cuts Wyatt in on 25% of the houses takings a night. After this walking back to his brother Ike shows up with a shotgun to deal with Wyatt; at this time, we are introduced to Doc. Holiday, (Val Kilmer) who hollers at Ike so to alert the Earps of what is coming. Due to this no blood was shed. Then a stagecoach rolls into town. On the coach is a play company staring Josephine Marcus, (Dana Delany). Wyatt is immediately attracted to her and she notices him down the road and is attracted as well. Then the Earps and Doc go to the Bird Cage Theater where they take their wives: Wyatt’s wife Mattie, (Dana Wheeler-Nicholson), Virgil’s wife Allie, (Paula Malcomson) and Morgan’s wife Louisa, (Lisa Collins) and Doc’s girl Kate, (Joanna Pacula). Shaun Of The Dead is constructed like a horror movie postmodernism as a combination of two of the opposition - the horror and comedy genres. It can be seen to the postmodern also turned against structured and rigid thinking of the horror movies. Shaun Of The Dead is a postmodern because it consists of all the elements of a horror movie, but in fact is a comedy, Shaun of the Dead was written by Edgar Wright and co-author Simon Page, the film is a hybrid romantic, coma, and comedy, and this type contradict thus each other than the film led to be seen as a comedy, as traditionally is not a combination of these types usually opposed to each other. Shaun of the Dead is a contemporary version of the horror film because it still follows the laws and conventions of the horror film, which consists of blood and gore, zombies and isolation this whole iconography of popular horror movies. Another way Shaun Of The Dead contrasts with the horror and the theory of character Propp films is by replacing the main character to lead the male cool and strong ordinary boy who works in a shop selling electronic devices with slacker him from a friend who adds initially Another element of humor in the film due to lack of The presence of the typical characteristics of a hero.

Tombstone “Tombstone” the movie was based on the historical events that actually took place in Tombstone, Arizona. A ex sheriff, Wyatt Earp came into town to reunite with his two brothers and a old friend, Doc Holliday. They planned on getting rich and settling down in Tombstone, Arizona to retire. Their plans however were interfered with by a group of outlaws called the cowboys, who were causing problems for the people in Tombstone. The 3 brothers ended up becoming sheriffs and planned to deal with the cowboys once and for all, the cowboys having mutual feelings which lead to the battle at the O.K. corral.

The 1946 film The Killers is a renowned film noir based off of Ernest Hemingway’s short story of the same title, focusing on the detailed backstory and investigation for the motive of the murder of Pete Lund/Ole Anderson, commonly known and referred to as “The Swede.” A film noir is a term made originally to describe American mystery and thriller movies produced in the time period from 1944-1954, primarily marked by moods of menace, pessimism, and fatalism. Although the film does not focus on the war itself at all, it still puts forth interesting new ways in how gender relations can be stereotypical as well as divergent proceeding the Second World War.

Erving Goffman maintained that negative labels are often stigmatizing. He believed that stigmas result in a “spoiled identity.” Goffman coined the term stigma to describe the labels society uses to devalue members of certain social groups (pg. 107). He identified three categories or types of stigmas: abominations of the body, blemishes of individual character, and tribal. When a person became aware of a certain stigma they had been labeled to, Goffman noted three ways to manage it: hide the stigma, distance themselves from the stigma or try to correct it, and embrace or accept the stigma. The movie Dallas Buyers Club offers a chance to see several stigmas brought to light, and the way that each was handled. For instance there are examples of HIV/AIDS, homosexuality, feminism, and criminal activity that are prevalent and shape the way the movie is organized.

Fargo is a movie directed by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen who are brothers. It is a 1996 American crime film. Unlike most common movies, Fargo has its own style. The story is linear. It tells a story in three different lines. The beginning of the film shows a few lines of subtitles. It is adapted from a true story took place in Minnesota in 1987. The reason why this is done, just to be more attractive, if audiences feel it is real, then they will go down. Coen uses lively narrative rhythm in this film. For them, manufactured suspense by concealing the story is far from clear, but can’t control the accident make more enjoyable. The rhythm is ordered, each person’s character and action are fully in the simple plot to show. All the clues seem to fuse

Based on a true story, the movie ‘Lone Survivor’ features four Navy SEALs that set out on a mission to Afghanistan with orders to capture and kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shah. The Navy SEALS are detected by villagers and the mission was compromised. Ultimately, the mission had been discovered and the men found themselves surrounded by dozens of Taliban soldiers. One of the Navy SEAL soldiers managed to dispatch to base and retrieve assistance but the Taliban shoot down the helicopter. During battle, three of the Navy SEAL soldiers were killed leaving one still alive.

Certain episodes stand out of course, as do key moments in the book. The part of me that loves Claire and Jamie’s blossoming romance the most was especially excited for “The Wedding” episode. As the executive producer Ron D. Moore says himself, the most interesting thing about how these two characters come together is that they don’t fall in love until after they’re married. I suppose Claire being married to Frank back in her time complicates things. Did I mention this book/show don’t fall into one specific genre? History, time travel, romance, politics, suspense, and while I hate the term, plenty of “bodice ripping”. In fairness though, in Outlander, it’s corset ripping. ;)

The Silence of the lambs (1991) is in doubt a film which demonstrates a well-constructed horror film. The film, ranging with scenes, shots, and frames that were well constructed to be identified as horrific. The films cinematography shifts the films narrative and impacts the film, especially the film’s frames. It seems reasonable to suppose that from the film’s frames and of those of the characters expressions, they shape the film’s genre to be horrifying, psychological, and thrilling and they guide viewers towards where the film’s narrative will lead to. Therefore, even a single or series of frames in the film such as Hannibal Lecter’s evil smile, Buffalo Bill opening the door, Hannibal Lecter standing in his cell, and the dialogue between Agent Starling and Hannibal Lecter, act collectively to represent and symbolize claims about the film.

The movie “North Country” is based on a coal-mining town in northern Minnesota. Josey Aimes leaves her abusive husband with her two children and decides to move in with her parents. Josey started with a job shampooing in a nearby hair salon, but it was not enough to support her family. Therefore, she decided to take a job at the coal mine where her father works also. Her first few days working in the mine seemed to be okay, but she then realized the women were targets of discrimination and sexual harassment.

Freddy is 53 Pilipino and his wife’s 28 Caucasian, his second marriage. When I first meet him and his wife I thought she was his daughter, I think she was 17 or 18 at the time, very quiet. They had one baby at the time, and now he told me they have 7 kids.
