Anatomy and Physiology is the study of the human body. Anatomy is the study of the internal and external structure of body parts. Physiology is the study of the function of those body parts. In an anatomy and physiology course you will examine the body parts and the way that these body parts function together to keep us alive. There are positive feedback mechanisms and negative feedback mechanisms. Positive feedback is a closed system that occurs in a feedback loop and the response of the system relies on the feedback system to function. A good example of this would be a blood clot. When a vessel is harmed, platelets begin to stick to the harmed site and discharge chemicals that pull in more platelets. The platelets keep on heaping up and discharge chemicals until a coagulation is formed and you now have a blood clot. Negative feedback is a response that causes a decline in its function. It is a reaction to some kind of stimulus. It usually causes the output of a system to lessen which in turn tends to stabilize the system. The skin protects underlying tissues and organs, excretes salts, water, and organic wastes. It also regulates your body temperature. The hair protects your scalp from UV rays, cushions blows to the head, and insulates the skull. Nails protect the sensitive tips of your fingers and your toes. The circulatory system and the respiratory system work closely together to ensure that organ tissues and systems receive enough oxygen. Oxygen is required for cellular functions such as cell respiration. This is so the body’s organs and cells can work at fully; it is done by releasing chemical energy with in stored foods. The air breathed in and held in the lungs is transferred to the blood. The blood is circulated by the heart, which pumps the oxygenated blood from the lungs to the body organs and returns with deoxygenated blood.

Homeostasis is the process of maintaining a fairly constant interval environment. Homeostatic mechanisms help us to be independent of our external environment. It helps us regulate our body temperature, pH, concentration of dissolved substance in the body fluids, concentration of glucose in blood, concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood and body fluids, blood pressure and concentration of metabolic wastes. Homeostasis is a biological process that maintains a constant internal environment, regardless of what is going on in the external environment. This process ensures the bodily functions and chemicals are kept in a state of balance which in return allows the body to function optimally. Homeostasis requires coordination of the hormonal (endocrine system) and nervous systems, which together regulate the activity of the body’s organ systems. The regulatory activities are constantly adjusted in response to stimuli (change) from both the internal and external environment. A change influenced by the external environment can cause a state in the body that will take it away from the normal, the body will act to counteract this change and return the internal environment back to a steady state. This is negative feedback. Negative feedback has a stabilising effect reducing changes from a set point and returning internal conditions to a steady state. Most body systems e.g. controlling blood glucose levels, obtains homeostasis through negative feedback which makes the negative feedback system critically important in obtaining homeostasis. However there is also positive feedback which is a system that results in the escalation of a response to a stimulus. The body attempts to maintain a constant level of physical output to achieve homeostasis. However, it can only work within its limits, where extreme conditions can disable the negative feedback mechanism.
Why it's important for organisms to maintain homeostasis is to have a good body temperature because being too cool or hot can lead to health complications. An organism need to be able to get food some how and if the organism can't get food then they could die. If an organism can't fight off a sickness then the sickness could lead to death or health complications.
I’ve done some study in human anatomy and physiology, what fascinates me the most about this is how anatomy and physiology work together to produce us with the ability to have healthy working bodies. In saying that, homeostasis plays a major role in us having healthy bodies.

Homeostasis is an important function in all humans and animals as keeping a stable environment requires constant adjustments as the environment changes. I will specifically be focusing on the structure of the integumentary system, and how it contributes to maintaining homeostasis. The skin is the largest organ in the body (12 to 15% of total body weight).
Homeostasis is what physiological systems in our bodies do in order to maintain a stable internal environment. Stability is held together by the coordinated responses of the components involved to any stress or unfamiliar situation that the human body is put under that could disrupt its normal functioning conditions. Homeostasis must be maintained constantly in order for our bodies to be able to function properly and not under stress which could have major effects later on in life.
Homeostasis can have many different applications in everyday life. It can mean keeping the body in balance, in regards to weight, health etc. It can mean keeping the mind in balance, not sinking into a depression, not succumbing to harmful addictions, or not caving under everyday stress. I feel this term is very important, because developing balance, or homeostasis in my life was one of the main ways I battled and won depression. I plan on entering the field of counseling psychology, because of this I want to learn more about homeostasis.
