I hope you are doing well. It is with great enthusiasm that I submit my application for the Curator of Contemporary Culture position at the Anchorage Museum. Betany Porter informed me about this new curator position during my residency and I am interested in the opportunity to develop exhibitions and programming for the Anchorage Museum. My main goal as a cultural producer is to create a space which investigates how memory, location and history intersect within society through public and private collections. I also facilitate collaborations with historical societies, grassroots community organizations, and the public to build dynamic and authentic experiences that share the story of a region. The purpose of my investigations is to create a space for inquiry, conversations, and reflection about regional histories as well as contemporary issues for diverse audiences. I believe the best way to facilitate these discussions is to develop opportunities for public interaction, which can take many forms including: • Experimental …show more content…
During my residency experience, I had the opportunity to consult on various projects and observe the administrative structure at the museum. I was impressed with the museum’s culture of cultivating risk-taking projects through team building partnerships that allow the public to engage with history, culture and science in various ways. I would consider it a great opportunity to join your team as the Curator of Contemporary Culture. If you are interested in interviewing me for the position, please feel free to contact me at 312-714-4250. Thank you so much for your consideration to my application and I hope to hear from
Museums serve as a way to connect with the public on a large scale, and the knowledge held within exhibits can be a fruitful experience for those who choose to visit these institutions. Experiencing all that a museum has to offer, no matter how well intentioned, can at times be confusing and overwhelming to the individuals visiting the site. The Smithsonian’s Museum of the American Indian dedicates itself to Native Americans in North and South America, and worked tirelessly with varying tribes to create a new standard. Some visitors and scholars found their work to be successful in design and approach while others found it to be lacking in execution. This institution does not approach Native American history in a familiar fashion; however it does cover an expansive period of time, and produces a great amount of detail while generating powerful emotions.
There are times when an individual or organization finds they are in need of an exhibition curator, thus we now offer this service. In addition, we are frequently called on to serve as a juror for national, state and local exhibitions and will be happy to assist our clients with this task. These are only a few of the many ways we work to help our community and support the fine arts.
I really appreciate the opportunity to come to the University of Bridgeport to interview for the Assistant/Associate Provost position. The interactions with the University of Bridgeport community was very warm and welcoming.
To be placed in one of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's department areas would truly be a dream come true for me. I have aspired to work in museum operations since I was sixteen years old, and the MET is one of the most established and revered
So many people see history as something dry and lifeless but in reality it is a study that is full of life. There is no better way to see this than through the lens of archaeological artifacts. The people of the past are intrinsically a part of these objects. They were shaped by human hands; some were used in everyday life while others only meant to be appreciated as art. In any case, they show the vitality of history which can sometimes be obscured by the centuries. I want to work with a collection that deals with archaeological artifacts, and ideally I would like to work with objects of Greek or Roman origins. One day I would like the opportunity to create an exhibit where the viewer can see how the objects relate to a whole as well as their own individual characteristics. I want others to have the same sort of experience I had while walking through the Byzantine and Christian Museum; I want them to have a moment of connection to the past and see how alive history can be. I am especially interested in the courses that the Museology program offers which teach the proper methods to curate archaeological collections. The experience of working with the objects in the Burke Museum will benefit my goal of curating a
I am writing to express my interest for the position of Women’s Centre Coordinator (WCC-0309) as advertised by CBU Student Union. My skills, experience, and education make me well suited for this position.
Tucked away in the Fred Jones Jr. Art Museum basement, the Nancy Johnston Records Gallery celebrates the work of Oscar Brousse Jacobson. It has been 100 years since he started working here at our university. In his time here, he oversaw the creation of the very museum that now holds his work and helped to give several Native American artists a start. Fascinated by Asian art and the various landscapes of the world, he travelled each summer and collected over 2,500 pieces for the museum1. He did all of this while holding the position of director of the OU Art School. Although he passed away in 1966, his work and legacy live on. His vision of a public art museum in Oklahoma not only came true, but said museum also
Securing an internship with the State Historic Preservation Office, a bureau within the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission, is perhaps one of the finest organizations for a graduate student to spend their summer. With a myriad of learning opportunities available, each student is given the ability to cultivate their knowledge through unanticipated avenues, creating a continually stimulating workplace. My experience at the State Historic Preservation Office is significantly advancing my future career due to the guidance and skills I receive, along with the professional relationships I acquire. Gaining insight into the inner workings of government organization’s relationship with the public, applying my newly acquired skills with the CRGIS and GeoMedia systems, strengthening my networking abilities to benefit my future career, and recognizing how varying bureaus work together, strengthens my aptitude as a professional historian. Likewise, working to meet my goals that I set forth in my internship application allows me to tailor my learning experience in order to gain insight into PHMC’s fundamentals, as well as how they help to inform the public, and where a historian can fit into this government agency.

Not only has the Art Department made it clear that recognising their cultural art student’s work is important, but also making an unforgettable experience out of it. Closely relating it to wider world events has never been so effective and successful for both the public attending and students whose work is exhibited.
I stand here under the hot sun with sweat pouring down my cheeks eagerly awaiting our club’s trip to the Orange County Museum of Art, my first trip to a museum since moving here to the United States. I wonder when the other members will arrive, maybe I arrived a little early. I am a bit excited. I think about the countless opportunities to grow and discover more about myself being a member of the art club has given me.
The Freer Sackler Gallery was the first Smithsonian art institution that captivated my interest and showed me the different aspects of art. There was something poetic in it’s aesthetic that further peaked my interest in becoming an Asian art museum curator and learning to speak Mandarin. Becoming a Teen Council member would be a great opportunity to utilize my communication skills while learning more about Asian art and culture. As a previous Teen Ambassador for the National Museum of African Art, I have gained experience in enhancing the public’s museum experience. I believe that museums have the ability to educate and inspire through art expression.
Under the supervision of Mallory Howard (intern curator) and Steve Courtney (assistant curator), my time as an intern was spilt. When I first arrived my role as an intern was to support the exhibit which was in the process of opening. After the exhibit opened, my role changed to maintaining not only the exhibit but other aspects in the museum and the historical house.
As a way of experiencing the Humanities beyond the classroom, the following is a summary of my selection for a cultural event. Certainly, the described activity doesn’t fit in its entire to the current course but it has a significant impact for me as student and as a social individual. The activity I have selected was a visit to the ‘Tampa Bay History Center’ which is located in the 801 Old Water St, Tampa, FL 33602. The place is conveniently close to my residence, only 20 minutes away and it is in a well-known area of the city (down town Tampa). The museum is open the seven days of the week from 10AM-5PM, and it has interesting exhibits and artifact’s collection. To support the art’s community some of the exhibits are temporary so local artist can show their talent to the public in general. The museum not only host artist. Certain areas of the museum are dedicated for special events like birthdays, meetings or weddings. As a recommendation, the best time to visit the museum is early in the week days since the weekend seems to be busy per one of the employees I was talking.
