Ancient India has numerous important factors but among all of them, the one that remains the most fascinating to many is fashion. Ancient India’s fashion includes many styles that are still worn in modern India today. The fashion of ancient India also slightly differed in the north and the south regions. Some factors of India’s fashion are the bright colors of the clothing and the bright jewelry worn to accompany the clothing. Additionally, India is known for its detailed embroidery that adds a touch of ”jadoo” which is Hindi for “magic”. According to written records from that time, the men noted that the people used parasols or light umbrellas to give shade from the sun. Some ancient people were noted as wearing leather shoes, built to make the wearer seem taller. Most people did not wear earrings, however, a few wealthy people appeared to wear earrings. Of great interest to Alexander the Great's men was that Indian men dyed their beards multiple different colors such as white, dark blue, red, purple, and green. Dying clothes and dying beards were practiced as an art form. Fabrics were made in solid colors, and also woven in various colorful designs. This demonstrates how ancient Indian fashion was diverse compared to other styles of fashion.
In summary, ancient India has numerous crucial factors, however, the one that remains the most important in ancient Indian culture was fashion. India has unique clothing, makeup, jewelry, and much more that plays an important role in culture and diversity.
