If you only watch one play in your lifetime you should go watch And Then They Came for Me by: james stageone family theatre still it's got everything in it it's suspenseful ,gripping and some comic relief in it. in this play it's about Ed and Eva and how they survived the Holocaust it talks about how the jews were only allowed to do certain things and how they had to wear yellow stars on their clothes and about inside the concentration camps and how they were in hiding
I really enjoyed the play especially since I had some background knowledge of the holocaust and of they play it helped me understand the play a whole lot easier. One thing that I thought was really interesting was having the screen because then you have someone that lived through
The play of Anne Frank tells the story of Anne and how her family survived the time they did in the Holocaust. In this play, Anne and her family move to an annex along with some of their friends where they have trouble getting along at first, but as the play goes on they begin to adjust. While the play of Anne frank is the story of a teenage girl’s life during the Holocaust, the book of Night is the story of Elie Wiesel who is a teenage boy’s life during the Holocaust. In Night Elie lives in the concentration camps and must work while receiving small rations of food. Although the play of Anne Frank and the book of Night differ in religious beliefs and family relationships, both focus on surviving the Holocaust and staying close to their families.
The play was very well done and was not dull even though it was catered to a large audience. The musical numbers are very entertaining, and the spectacle, both visual and emotional, is well accomplished. I would recommend this to most children and adults, due to the Christmas themes and general lightheartedness of the play.
In the play, they eventually get found and they are taken concentration camps, but it does something different than any other play I’ve ever read, it ends with a cliffhanger. When they go to the concentration camps, Anne has to leave her diary in the annex, but even though she may have written the last sentence in her diary, she lies breathless on the next. In Night later on in the book, Elie’s father gets ill and the SS officers notice this, and later his father is killed in the “selection”. So, even though they have different ways of saying them, the theme is the same and these works are saying that we should spend as much time as possible with our family before time’s
And the picture of you that was out front with all the casting actors, wow you looked gorgeous! Once again I was extremely impressed by the stage design. The back Catholic Church wall was such an amazing structure. The paint and texture that was used to build the wall, gave off the appearance of a real stone wall. The wall design was flawless, and the size and scale it in which it was done in is astounding! Ms. Livingstone office was also well placed; it kept a focus point to the center of the room. The decision to go with a see through glass desk and small offices chairs allow the stage space to seem larger and didn’t block or hide when the actors sat down or walked around the desk. The area with the steps that lead to Mother Ruth desk was also well crafted, but I felt it was not utilized enough. It was barley used and wasn’t sure if it was Mother Ruth office or apart of the church altar. The church pew was a nice addition as well. I was also really impressed with the lighting effects, especially from the church windows. I first thought the stained glassed windows were fixed lights that couldn’t be changed, but once Livingstone took center stage and began to speak the colors changed to a red color (I think). When that happened it felt like the world froze in place while she spoke, and resuming when the light turned back to a bright morning light. I also liked how the lights would change throughout the play to set a different mood. For example, when Ms. Livingstone was hypnotizing Agnes, she told Agnes to imagine herself being in water all of the sudden the room color was
The film did a very good job of portraying the emotions the characters were experiencing during the play.
I saw the play “A Bright Room Called Day” by Tony Kushner on the 1st of November. I can say for sure that plays are always different and this play was completely different from the one we watched a couple weeks ago- “Rent”. This play is serious in its content , it is a specific historical play, which took place in Germany, more exactly Berlin, in the 1930s. The story is about five good friends during the time of the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party, the time before World War II. The story surrounded the main character- Agnes, who just loves her home and lives on her own and she thinks that everything will be alright as long as she stays away from negative influences. Representational and presentational acting can be seen in this play and helps us understand the character more.
I will be honest with you I had a lot of trouble enjoying the play, like I said the dialect gave me trouble, plus my seats were not that great. I did however like the movie quite a bit, but I realize I am a product of a different generation as well. I have been brought up around TV and movies rather than plays
The Holocaust is a very gruesome and impacting event that can’t be explained just by watching films. It takes years of research to understand what actually occurred in the holocaust however these films do give you a brief understanding about the holocaust. The first film I would recommend would be the pianist because its by far one of the most historically accurate and most informative films to date. The pianist shows you from beginning to end on what happens to the Jewish community in the holocaust in Warsaw Poland. The second film I would recommend would be The Grey Zone because its one of the most emotional films about the holocaust. The grey zone takes you into the heart of Auschwitz and shows you the position that some Jewish prisoners were put in in order to survive.
The acting in the play was absolutely marvelous, especially from the Shahryar, played by Kendall McGraw, and Scheherezade,
The movie was very simple and straightforward but really made you think about how the Jewish people were feeling about their religion at the time. Was God evil? Did God break his covenant? Are the Germans the bidders of God’s work or are the Jews? Prisoners at Auschwitz had nothing to do but work, wait, and think so why not question why they were there in the first
From watching Tevye do his dance to seeing the hard decisions he had to make. It was a very emotional and dramatic experience because of the religious duties Tevye had to follow and the results of what would happen with his decisions. It was a time to bite your nails, not knowing what would happen next to a time where people made simple mistakes which made the play harder and confusing to watch. This play had the audience at the edge of the seat at some moments because of how interesting this play was. This play was very good aside from the plays i’ve seen before. I would rate this play a seven out of ten since I am new to theatre and these are high schoolers who aren’t professionals but made it seem like a professional play in my
This movie was sorrowful and some parts terrifying, for example, when the Jews getting killed for no reason, just because they were Jewish. These aspects were affective in the movie because it helps the movie look more realistic and more historical. The creators do a good job capturing empathy because the audience knew who were the characters and knew what was going on, most of the audience were hooked on it.
Overall, the film did exactly what any good dramatic film would do and that is make the audience feel something. The tragedy of the Holocaust has never been fictionally depicted from a German child’s view until this movie. The depiction of how a child who is protected from certain elements war might have thought in that era makes this film unique. The unbelievable conclusion is what makes this film unforgettable. The most important scene in the film is the ending, when Bruno
I think the director did a great job in filming this movie. He didn’t take any credit for his achievement but I believe he honored and remembered the victims of the holocaust. One of the most important lines of this film that really impacted me was “who will be our next executioners?” The reason why I loved this line is because we make little things so trivial and we take everything for granted. Our liberties are a blessing and yet people don’t seem to realize this. I believe that only when we are faced with a natural catastrophe that will put humanity’s survival at risk and we lose everything that will be the day that we will have gained all.
Throughout the play, I enjoyed the role of music used to set a comic atmosphere and replace the dialogs during comic scenes (e.g. when they chase each other around). I also thought that they made a good use of light to indicate the moment of the day the scene was happening or to set the atmosphere of the scene (e.g. pink colour during the romantic moments). Lastly, I liked the way the play ended. Even though it was a little messy with everyone running after each other off and on stage, and this policeman coming out of nowhere, which really surprised me; I couldn’t think of a better way to end the play.
