Andrew Lloyd Webber was born on March 22, 1948. He composed many musicals throughout his lifetime including; “Evita”, “Phantom of the Opera”, and “Cats”. Webber grew up in South Kensington to parents William who was a professional in theory and composition at the Royal College of Music in England and Jean who was a singer and a violinist in the same school. By age three Webber was playing the violin. Then by age six he composed his own songs. Then by age nine he had a piece of music published in the magazine, “Music Teacher.” Thanks to Webber’s Aunt Vi who got him into theatre. That is when “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” was born. Webber soon married 18- year- old Sarah Hugill in 1972. With their career (Webber and Rice) on the move they came together and wrote “Jesus Christ Superstar”. They set rock music to the story of Jesus Christ which was a big success. Then they wrote Jeeves in 1975 and Rice did not want anything to do with it. That’s when Alan Ayckbourn wrote the lyrics. Then Webber and Rice came together again and wrote “Evita” a story about the first lady of Argentina married to Juan Peron. This was also a huge success. Then they broke up for time to “recharge”. Rice said. This is when Webber created the musical “Cats”. When Webber was a child he read, “Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" by T.S. Eliot. This would soon be turned into the musical “Cats”. All of the lyrics were there, he wanted to add some flavor to them, and so he called on Rice and Trevor Nunn to help. Nunn used to direct the shows that Webber proposed. Webber chose Nunn’s lyrics over Rice’s, thus “Cats” was born in 1981. He soon divorced his wife Sara Hugill and moved on to the actress Sarah Brightman in 1984. Later Brightman was cast as the female role in “The Phantom of the Opera” as Christine Daae. In 1990 Webber announced his divorce with Brightman after she finished touring with The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber in the summer. They planed to work things out.
